Harve Presnell has an unbelievably beautiful voice. Singers like him are nowhere to be found today. Listen to the passion and conviction as he sings about this great State. He and Debbie Reynolds were marvelous together in this movie, “Unsinkable Molly Brown”.
This is the movie that made me fall in love with Colorado as well as Harve and Debbie . I was walking on clouds back then and just saw it again the other day for about the 8th time. God I miss them all. That VOICE ❤❤❤❗❗ I hope to see Colorado this year for the first time.
For another bit of joy, hear him sing songs from Carmina Burana with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. He could take his baritone from a soft whisper to full baritone with ease. I am glad this movie will preserve his talent. Oh, and his “They call the wind Maria” from Paint your Wagon.
Thank you so much for posting this! I needed to hear this again so badly, and to see it as well. Harve Presnell was a treasure who should have had movies built around him. Not just a great voice, but he could act, too, and conveyed real passion, and was gorgeous. He is deeply missed.
This is one of two songs that were written especially for the movie. The other one as he's my friend. They only use the small amount of songs from the original show in the movie. I remember I was initially disappointed about the small amount of songs from the Broadway show included in the movie but I was blown away by he's my friend.
I'm sure this song was in the original show at one point but was cut, maybe before the opening. It is not on the cast album or the printed script, but is included in the full vocal score.
Incredible vocal. I understand this was cut from the Original Broadway Show. We are blessed it was inserted back to the film version to hear the glorious baritone of Harve Presnell.
The Coen Brothers could have cast as Wade Gustafson any one of the innumerable older character-actors working in the 1990s with endless lists of credited roles spanning the decades, but for some strange and brilliant reason they chose this guy, who had been in almost nothing since 1969. It wound up being such a PERFECT choice that I can't imagine anyone else in the role in a billion years.
What an amazing, stunningly beautiful voice! I was 15 when this came out and it was the first time I heard Harve Presnell sing. I always have remembered him singing the gorgeous "I"ll Never Say No". Such beautiful melody and LYRICS!! If for no other reason, I watch THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN just to hear this exquisite song sung by him. I can't imagine anyone else performing it, even tho there are many, many beautiful operatic (and other) voices, past and present. (Somehow, I can hear the beautiful voice of Vic Damone singing it, but the soundtrack, with that huge panorama, is really unbeatable!!!) He seems to have been a sweet man. It's sickening to read that he died, only at 75, from pancreatic cancer...😢
jan wintz His voice is just wonderful! I, like you, saw this movie as a kid. I thought Harve Presnell was just wonderful and bought the album right away. I still think he's wonderful. I love his rendition of "They Call the Wind Mariah." Wonderful voice! He is missed!
I saw this movie the year it came out, on the big screen, across the pass from Leadville, the summer my Dad was getting credits in Aspen. Magical, unforgettable. I owned the LP and had the whole thing memorized, I played it so much!
This is absolutely my favorite song in the film, and IMO, THIS should be the state song of Colorado, instead of that lame "Land Where the Columbines Grow"! BTW, I've been to that canyon (Black Canyon of the Gunnison) where most of this song was filmed, and it is GLORIOUS!
@@jimdonahue5187 does everyone hang around and sing "where the columbines grow" nowadays? Anyway - you're both wrong, the state song should be Rocky Mountain High!
I never forgot this great scene and song from this fabulous movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" starring the late great Debbie Reynolds and bet so many have even forgotten who Harve Presnell was! A great actor and great singer as well! Had a very powerful strong magnificent voice! Always thought this should be Colorado's state song! Am wondering what the state song is or is John Denver's wonderful song, "Rocky Mountain High" considered their state song? Thanks for sharing, "That's EntertainedMe!
The Procussions - The Rockies samples this. Love that song. First time hearing the original source and I didn't know it was from a musical! Great song this is and the rap song has better percussion than this. But respect to the performer here. Very passionately performed! Thanks!
well I definitely agree with you on that. My one big one with that is when they decided to switch out Julie Andrews for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, but then she wouldn't have gotten to be Mary Poppins so I guess that evens out haha But Debbie Reynolds did a good enough job to be nominated for an Academy Award

i saw it with harve presnell and tammy grimes. try to find the recording of it. it was the original. too bad tammy didn't have the star power to land the role of molly in the movie as debbie couldn't make it a hit anyway!
That's me, a deeply proud Coloradan. I love this place so much. 😊

Laurel, thank you for these suggestions. I’m definitely going to look them up. His voice is exquisitely powerful!
Was old even in my childhood. But my god i loved this film. Had a crush on harv cause i loved his voice

I adore this musical! It makes me so sad that I don't know anyone else that's seen it, and I'm friends with plenty of music theatre people!

He sings with heart like it is really happening. Most singers do not feel the song.

I had to listen to this as soon as I moved to colorado, where I am now!
I have the sudden urge to randomly start singing in the mountains.
00:37- 00:41 man goes crazy after not getting promised 'KLONDIKE BAR'.
As you should lol
Thanks for sharing this - Loved this movie and as a Colorado Native, I agree this would make a great state song :)
Just wonderful!!
Harve Presnell was also in the original Broadway show.
Probably my favorite song in the movie.
My favorite musical!
I love that movie!
Oh. My goodness, Colorado My Home!!!!!
I saw that movie and at the age of nine, I knew I was gay. Later i walked through snow to see him. He is one of those people , Very Nice man.

Harve Presnell doesn't look like the same guy who sang Mariah in Paint Your Wagon.
he is younger in this one. this one was made in 1964. paint your wagon was in 1969

Too bad he doesn't do yodeling too.
