I have that same machine and you need to run material through a planer first to get it the same thickness, then run it through the sander for final dimensioning/sanding.

Norm are you happy with the powermatic sander? I’m ready to purchase a drum sander and trying to decide between SuperMax, Jet and Powermatic.
