      definitely worth it...and now that the new M3 is out, this model can be found for like $30K with decent mileage...I have a 2012 328i which I love, but I'm about to say F it and sell it for the best M3 ever made!

      Po Russki unfortunately no...although I am looking for a very specific M3 (black on saddle brown, low mileage, 2011 version of idrive, EDC)...I'm getting closer though, this summer is my goal so I'll probably just compromise

    Amazing review. I can honestly say that this is one of the best if not the best car review I've seen. Really great job!
    Informative, concise, and entertaining.
    The only negative being the wrong info on the lack of DCT on the 335i.

  • @mpanayi1
    @mpanayi1 9 лет назад +63

    comparing the 335is and the m3 is a little silly... if you strip away the exterior, the cars are totally different... different suspension, shocks, steering ratios, gearbox, suspension set-up, wheel tracks etc... M cars are not just engine replacements of the normal 3 series... completely different machines!

      @gregorythomas4470 6 лет назад +2

      I happen to own an E92 M3 and while I will admit it’s an absolutely great car, in real world driving the 335 is equally so. Especially when modified. There are VERY FEW owners that leave their M3 stock. So, since ur going to upgrade anyway, you can get just as much street performance out of the 335. As far as maintenance they both are nightmares. Finally, talking track, neither is a good option. The M3 is an extremely expensive car to make track ready and you’ll find yourself using very few of the factory pieces. As far as that goes you’d do just as we’ll supercharging a 328 coupe, adding the same chassis upgrades the M3 will need, save a ton of money and have just as much fun.

    • @gregorythomas4470
      @gregorythomas4470 6 лет назад

      Zombie Head That’s the most ridiculous shit I’ve ever read. If you truly embrace this logic, then strap a set of PZero’s and a big brake kit on your Prius and go prove to the world how astute you are!! Genius

    • @gregorythomas4470
      @gregorythomas4470 6 лет назад

      Zombie Head I have built two track cars so I’d never use stock brakes or pads. However that doesn’t begin to justify your statement that “it doesn’t matter what car you have”. The basic platform that you’re basing your build on is the most important factor. What matters THE MOST is what car you have!

    • @gregorythomas4470
      @gregorythomas4470 6 лет назад

      Zombie Head Or did you possibly mean “Regardless of what car you have”?

    • @gregorythomas4470
      @gregorythomas4470 6 лет назад

      Zombie Head. Well, you started by saying the car itself doesn’t matter. That’s where we disagree. Putting big brakes and upgraded rubber and suspension on a shitty platform will ALWAYS wind up being wasted time and money. So while I agree that it takes proper mods to obtain success, I feel the car you’re actually modifying is the most important ingredient

    Just ordered mine with a six speed manual. They can keep the paddles and double clutch. Next year's M3 is slated to go back to a twin turbo six which is why I rushed out to secure allocation for the V8. To me, a six is a step backwards.

    Only thing I complained about E92 M3 is the engine lag. Before of the low torque, it's hard to get back to speed when you break and again trying to get back. But got my m3 tuned and now has 430NM now.

    • @mareksumguy1887

      Engine lag!?. Its a high compression NA V8 with individual throttle bodies. Its one of the most responsive engines out there. You just don't know how to drive.

  • @rcrocker02
    @rcrocker02 8 лет назад

    to those who say comparing 335 to m3 is stupid cause theyre so different mechanically. well yes..stock they are very different. but most people who are real car enthusiast dont buy them with the intentions of keeping them stock. and what do you upgrade? the engine, transmission, differential (both to handle the power of the engine after you modified it), gear ratios (potentially... this really comes down to more personal preference), brakes, suspension, and adding a LSD to the 335 since they didnt give it one stock. both cars are within 50 lbs of each other in curb weight in any given configuration. however dollar for dollar its far cheaper to build up to crazy power levels on the ridiculously tough n54 twin turbo engine in the 335 simply because it has factory forged internals and its boosted meaning bigger gains per mod than a NA car (stock internals have been known to handle over 800 hp at the wheels reliably). now which one is better really comes down to 2 things. budget, and desires.
    budget - can you afford to buy, maintain, modify, keep it fueled up and insure an m3? ALL of those things cost a bit more on a m3 vs a good bit cheaper 335. if you plan to modify the shit out of the car then you can get pretty comparable aftermarket parts that are equally good for either car as far as suspension and brakes go. you can fit massive 380 mm racing rotors with 6+ piston calipers with the right set of wheels and pretty much whatever pads you want. you can fit amazing suspension systems that can allow you to tune the handling to your style. it only cost a couple grand to throw a limited slip diff into a 335i and you get a few options as to what kind. big difference here is the engine. you can build the crap out of a 335 engine (well the n54 at least), for a good bit less money mod for mod compared to the v8 in the m3. and when you drive it normal, and set your engine mapping tune down to normal levels your fuel economy will remain excellent unlike the m3. so really a number of factors to consider there.
    desires - heres one simple thing... do you like the sound of the inline 6 and the spool of a turbo or do you crave some high revving v8 thunder with a louder growl at idle than the inline 6? if you plan on keeping them stock and just want a lot of performance for your money the 335i is the better car. better for daily driving. if you want more performance right out of the box and dont want to have to do very much to get a truly impressive performance level or perhaps you want to keep a warranty? then the m3 is your better choice if you can afford it. so which suits your needs and driving style better? what do you intend to use the car for? are you gonna do track days with it? so really all these things can determine whats better. for daily, or for heavy mods, since you can make everything comparable but the engine is easier to build big power id say the 335i or 335is. but if you plan to keep it mostly stock, or are concerned about a warranty, or just cant be bothered with shop time doing a build, then the m3 is definitely your choice IF you can afford it being more expensive in every single way.

    @steverooni99 If you're buying a car to show off, then you're buying it for the wrong reasons. The M3 is so appreciated because it drives so well. Buy one for that reason, not to tell your friends you bought an M3. Better yet, buy a 335is.

  • @strawboi
    @strawboi 8 лет назад

    That's brand new price. If you look at 2nd hand price, 335 depreciates twice more than the M3. same year, half the price of the M3, that tells you something right.

    I own a 2014 335i sedan and love it... but......all I think about is damm that m3 sedan would be great! The ride in my 335i is pretty harsh on 19" wheels so the m3's track inspired suspension makes me a little worried.. my 335i ride quality is really aggressive when I encounter potholes. there are many times when I slam into a small rut/pothole and I swear my rim must have shattered! it's pretty intense..if I were to do it again I'd opt for the 18" wheels.. my good buddy also has a 2014 335i and he's running 18" wheels and what a big difference it makes...

      Totally agree with you on that. I have a 2015 328i with sport 19s and the side of sometimes very rough. And a friend of mine who has it with 18s feels totally different, much more luxurious.

      +Jalil Waiz isn't it super rough on the 19's? how do you like your 328i? I had my car serviced a while back and I had a 328i as a loaner car and I really liked it.. it drove nice and really wasn't much slower than my 335i.. is this your first bmw?

      +just82much hey.. I love this car. The interior is more refined and spacious compared to my older e46 330i which still only has 80, 000 miles lol. The new turbo 2.0 engines are awesome, and as you said, it's only slightly slower than the 3 litre. Very good girl economy too.. 35% better than e46.

    though I can understand why cooley would prefer a 335is over the m-car, you just can't compare a full-on m-car to a standard bmw - even to the real high end standard bmws like the 335is. anybody who has driven a real m-car will know what I'm on about, the m3 is just a completely different animal! it feels like a totally separate car, like it had hardly anything in common with a size-wise comparable "normal" bmw.
