    OK - Just a tip - You started off textbook by turning the gain/master volume/faders all to zero. You found a pumping track and lifted the gain so not to clip. You put the fader flat out and lifter the master to match the gain input. Loved it. Everything was set to optimum but then you said I like to keep my faders flat out and alter the volume the the input gain knob??? - just in case you accidentally slid the fader to full volume. So you have defeated the object of setting the correct input gain. They are both there for a reason my friend.

    I have a question, in the gain configuration in Serato do you still have it at 92 db as default or do you have to change it so as not to saturate? Another question is it good to use auto gain??? Greetings from Mexico, you are my odolo master 🙌🏻

  • @dimitrisoteropoulos2359
    @dimitrisoteropoulos2359 4 года назад +2

    Hey Nick, great explanation. Since you are on the topic, can you then explain how you gain your mic receiver and mixer.. If you aren't sound checking @ the Intro's volume for example while the room is empty it always takes some tweaking. Do you prefer gaining up on the mic receiver more than using the mixer input? For reference I am using a Shure QLX-D's Thanks!

    • @NickSpinelli
      @NickSpinelli  4 года назад +2

      With the QLX-Ds you have amazing control of volume on the receiver, built in attenuators etc as you know - so I'm deff a fan on gaining up not he mic receiver more than using the mixer output. But it depends on the mixer. You just have to play around until it sounds just right.

  • @djfingersflores
    @djfingersflores 3 года назад +2

    Hey Nick i really enjoy all your videos, keep up the good work brother but it looks like you made a common mistake here. The Gain is a INPUT volume not a OUTPUT volume. These are two different things, the gain allows the signal to come in from the source into the channel strip so you can see just how strong your signal is. Knowing this you can set your gains accordingly so the next song wont come in super loud or too low. Your channel and master volume is your OUTPUT volume you adjust for your crowd. The only DJs that should put their channel volumes at 10 and adjust output volume with the gains are the turntablist doing a heavy duty routine. I think wedding DJs saw what the turntablists were doing and started copying their mixer settings. Stay up brother Nick PEACE!!

    Have you made a video of how to set knobs/levels & what order, when using a controller & an external mixer together? If so what's the video called, if not I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm using a Denon MC7000 Controller & an Allen & Heath Zedi-10FX External Mixer. I have the controller directly into 2 channels of the external, 2 wireless mics into 2 additional channels of the external mixer, that mixer passing thru the dbx gorack, & then into ev powered speakers. Thanx

    This is great - can you talk a bit more about the auto-gain in Serato? I notice my levels on Serato itself seem to go into the red, no matter how low I set the auto-gain. Do I need to worry about that if all my levels on the hardware stay in the green?

    One thing I never liked is when we lower the Gain, Your headphones volume will
    Lower also. Yeah when the gain is low now I have to turn up your headphones knob like all the way. Is there a way around this. I would like to lower gain so there’s no clipping. But now my headphones are low low. And I have to really turn up the headphone knob to almost all the way,Thanks!

    I run my controller into a small (4 channel) mixer then out to my speakers. Where should the channel and master volumes on the mixer be? I use the mixer mainly so I can have a couple of mic channels...

    • @NickSpinelli
      @NickSpinelli  4 года назад +1

      It depends on a lot of variables so you'll have to do some experimenting. First, I'd set your 4 channel mixers master and DJ line to 0 DB (up to the dark line) and then do the steps in this video for your main controller. If everything seems tooo loud then turn down your 4 channel mixer

    Keep in mind if you boost the mids it will bring up the sound levels. Always important to set at 0db or just above at +1db, that way if you slightly boost your mids or lows it won’t clip.
    Also if you have two tracks playing at once with full frequencies that will also bring the sound level up significantly, possibly going into the RED!!!
