Thank you for taking the time to video and post this. My sister and I are going to Kauai Jan 9, 2024 and will camp. Your casual but informative approach is most welcome and enjoyable to watch and listen to!
I am going to be (car) camping as well when visiting. Where was the first location where you were able to sleep? I'm really worried about getting in trouble 😬
My first lived on Kauai in 1973 it was a camper's Paradise at that time unfortunately over the year's more and more areas have been restricted from camping the only place it's legal to sleep overnight is on private property or at a county Park with a camping permit. In recent years the county has been blocking roads that have been used by locals for a hundred years to access beaches and waterfalls on the island. I think I know the guy in kapaa that rented the camper van I sold him my minivan when I moved to the mainland a few years ago. He started out about 15 years ago renting old cop cars he bought at auction for $250 each he now has a fleet of at least 50 vehicles of all types.
You can check but I'm pretty sure van camping, RV'ing, or whatever you want to call it is not legal at Hawaii parks, beaches and camp grounds. The only place to legally camp in a vehicle is on private property.
Hmmm we had a kauai parks ranger (probably not exact title) point out a couple places that we could camp. But it’s entirely possible he was just being nice. Also - wonder how they’re allowing people to rent out RVs with that rule.

Love it. You said it right Kapaa. Making me want to rent 1 next time I get back.. Thanks for sharing!!!😊
Great video. Going to kauai next month. Hoping you can share the spot where the local recommended where you stayed overnight 🙏🏾
Did you take a video of the the air b&b, and your time in Maui? It would be great to see some of it if you did!
Nothing of the Airbnb. We did record a tiny bit of our time on Maui but not much since we were there for a wedding!

How much cost to bring to van from oakland to kauai
How were the homeless communities at the county campsites? I have seen a lot of mixed reviews but the theme of danger and theft is in all of them.
Hmm we didn’t experience that but many campgrounds were still closed due to COVID when we were there. It was 2021.
Can people rent this Van?
what would have been helpful
is if you mentioned the place you found to sleep overnight.
I didn’t feel it was my place to publicly share the spots we only heard about from asking locals. Hope you can understand why!
unless video then.
