Mike Hamilton hi Mike. Did you mean the sign shape? I just went onto Google, types in " sign shapes silhouetes" and chose one of the shapes. Hope that helps
Great video !! Im a sign carver myself and i have tried the Inkscape, but just played around with it. This video was very helpful , and i also use the method with a laserprinter and acetone. BUT...there MUST be a way to print the whole thing on different papper without having to move the image . When i do my layout i use photoshop and then save to jpg. Then i import the jpg into "open office and excel " and there i can print the whole sign so it comes out on 2,4,6 pieces of paper and so on. But there must be a more simple way to print the whole sign layout with the push of the button without having to move the layout around and try to make it fit. I hope you understand my poor english, I'm from Sweden :) / Morgan Stoltz
Hi Morgan, thanks for your comment and I understood perfectly. I have never tried to print this way, what version of windows are you using? maybe its that. couple other programs like Rapid resizer and Gimp work really well too
Hi Great that you understand me :) Well i use mac, but right after i posted my first comment i went online and tried to find a more easy way, and i think i have !! After you have done your layout, save it as a pdf file. Then open the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat Reader ( its a free program ) Press print button and a printer dialog box ( or whats it called ) turns up. Chose "Poster" In the "tile scale" set it to 100% Under that theres is a box called "cut marks" set it on. ( so you can see where to cut your paper ) And you can also choose "portrait" or "Landscape" mode. Then it should print your layout in the size you did it in inkscape on a multiple papers. Try it out :) You can download the adobe acrobat reader from here: get.adobe.com/se/reader/ Let me know how it went :) ( By the way check out my videos on my channel on the transfer image on wood )
Morgan Stoltz yes, I normally find a shape I like on the internet and import it into inkscape. Once you make it.into an object you can do anything you want with it. So.i design and layout all at the same time
@@JohnathonWhittaker I used it with CorelDraw. When I needed to print something large like a banner use the printer dialog to tile the pages. I haven't done it it a long time. I went to look for instructions but I could only find it for Acrobat (pdf) file format. CorelDraw has the feature too, but I thought it was my printer. reconstructinghistory.com/tile-large-printer-pages/
@@JohnathonWhittaker I just read some of the comments you received, and a viewer mentioned Rapid Resizer, and you replied that you have used it for signs. That program looks like it might be the same thing that is built into my CorelDraw's printer settings dialog. www.rapidresizer.com/

I normally use a site called Dafont.com. thousands of fonts on there. There are lots of other font websites though. Amy questions , don't hesitate to send me a message
Great explanation but what a mess for printing the different parts, WOW! Have you ever tried Rapid Resizer, what a fantastic program. Thanks again, August
The font wasn't centered exactly, I'm thinking because of the tiny font at the bottom left corner set that outside line further away than the right side. But a great video and very good job at making it simple for a simpleton like me. Thank you brotha.
Hi Jason, yes you are completely correct. It's the small text that threw the centering off. Normally I would take an extra minute and remove that so when I made the image an object it woukd center perfectly. Paint.net is a great program for removing any unwanted lines or images in a pattern before you upload into inkscape. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Johnathon Whittaker thank you for the video brotha. I've worked in sign shops for 13 years, channel letters mostly but after seeing the lack of quality and employee appreciation I'm going to open a sign shop with a few former co-workers and we're going to set a new, higher standard in the market and videos like yours filled with helpful information help us tremendously.
I am not familiar with the puma cutter but did a quick Google search. Puma seems compatible with coreldraw. Inkscape puts out a png image. Not sure if that helps
Brilliant video. Excellent explanation of the basics to get you going.
Thanks for this Jonathon!
Chris Kennedy thanks for the great comment!
Oh, that was GREAT!! Thank you for taking the time to explain the program. I’ll be downloading it tomorrow!
Can you tell me what sight you downloaded the borders?
