  • Mike Glover talks about what it was like making his way over to the CIA and contracting as a GRS operator and the transition from regular military. Mike explains how op tempo was different and being around some of the most professional shooters in the world from various special operations units such as Navy SEALS, SEAL Team 6, Delta Force, Green Berets, Rangers, CCTs, and PJs. Are there any others i'm missing? GRS operators bring a lot of experience to the table, and you can expect to have one of the most capable units in the world.

      less bull because once you expose someone to a psychological concept like "the placebo effect" it no longer works on them, likewise with other psychologically manipulative concepts that certain ranks must know of. In other words, there is nothing to be learnt from or "utillized" at that point once they know. It's kinda like if everyone read that one book "how to win friends and influence people" if everyone reads it, they'll suspect you of just being a doosh or using manipulative techniques against them lol. I never worked for but I worked with the CIA and each time was an experience. Never met a bad Station Chief…seemed like having a ‘cool confidence’ was a prerequisite to be one.
    Quite unlike the National Cryptologic Representatives from my own agency. Incompetent A hole was their defining quality.
    Needed to do a survey at FOB Shield near Sadr City which required a drive through Baghdad…got a ride with GRS and these were some intense dudes.
    I’ll never forget when the lead badass showed me where my tourniquet was located and said, “If we get hit, stop your own bleeding”.
    Still have a CIA Zippo I bought at the HQ and a patch given to me by the Mosul station chief.

    Why hasn't the revolver ever found it's place in operations? Do such operators have the choice to carry additional weapons of their liking?
    Often wonder if the snubby S&W 500 mag in capable hands could be useful. Weighing just over 50 oz and can literally fit in a large pocket, this 50 cal is capable of 3500 ft/lbs of energy, is one of the most accurate revolvers in the world and shoots super flat 100+ meters.

    • @321ssteeeeeve
      @321ssteeeeeve Год назад

      @John McAlister I can understand, however 400 gr cast wc’s at 1800 ft/sec certainly shoots flat (eventually gravity always wins, if that’s what you mean). Have personal experience with my 3.5” performance center cannon 😜.
      Can easily vaporize 1 gal water jugs at 90 yards, off-hand. Super accurate and flat, but recoil is a beast

      They seem to go for lightweight polymer pistols with double stacked mags for capacity just like everyone else. You can see in videos with cops that pretty much everyone magdumps those things when they need whoever is shooting at them to stop that and take cover instead.
      They carry a lot of gear so an extra weapon is just dead weight. Why not replace that revolver with something more useful such as another rifle mag?
      If you have a rifle the only reason to carry a pistol is to have something to fall back on if your rifle is malfunctioning. It never seems to happen regardless. I've not heard of anyone talk about using their pistol when the rifle is fucked up. They just run off to fix the rifle.

      When I was in, I knew a Lt. Colonel that carried a revolver, though I don't remember the caliber. He rarely went on patrol or missions with us. We used to joke that he polished his holster more than his weapon. This was during the time when Special Operations standards became more relaxed, and leadership became more toxic.

    • @321ssteeeeeve
      @321ssteeeeeve Год назад

      @@randalldrew6044 I see revolvers are common among flight crew which makes complete sense in these scenarios. As for operators there probably is a perfect situation for 5 shot rifle power that can fit in the pocket, but probably very rarely

    i was in afghanistan from 2010-2018-DoD contractor. and mobile about 75% of the time..not a "fob-ette".
    pertaining to our "withdrawal"-
    we did not show up in 2001/2002 to "save" the language assistants. were were there to keep afghanistan demographically and physically secure. not to become a visa "facilitation" service because you work with/for the US.
    yes-the majority of the LAs were good guys. they also knew if they spun things enough they would scam to get out of afghanistan. they were paid well to work inside their nation to benefit "their" nation.
    the LAs were young adults and half-westernized. they knew that if they hung around the military long enough the could talk their way to a visa program. hence the SIV program that began, really, around 2011.
    our team in mazar had a saying even back in 2011: the LAs do not want freedom "for" afghanistan they want freedom from afghanistan. we know what they were about. not a bad thing, we never promised them, legally or on paper "a" visa to the US.
    have anyone..anyone at all show you the document "promising" a visa and post it on the internet. you can not. why? it does not exist. it never had.
    loosing over 2,600 US civilian/military lives and "inheriting" 100,000 afghan refugee's (costing billion$) in NOT what we were there for in doctrine and policy and is not the "definition" of victory per the 1600 dementia patient-slow "joe".
