I think there’s a place where you can go see what happened to earth in the game. Basically the planet became a uninhabitable wasteland so humans decided to leave.
More specifically because the Magnetic Field around Earth would disappear in a half century. This was discovered in 2150 so it was probably around 2200 that the Earth’s Magnetic Field went away, and I think a few years later, it finally got bad enough to be deemed uninhabitable.

Gives you some cool old Earth weapon or something as a reward idk. Or maybe cosmetics you can put in your ship. How about the ability to integrate a Pip-Boy into your ship somehow idk! A Vault-Tec themed spacesuit? This is a game, be creative. Lol I’m actually very disappointed haha
Why would nothing be left if the atmosphere escaped? If anything, a lot of our structures would be preserved because of the lack of atmo, aside from components that naturally break down over time.
It's the Early Access release. Anyone would gets the Premium Edition or the Premium Edition Upgrade gets to play it 5 days early. This was heavily advertised.

Hell, other games have offered early access in the pass. This isn't the first game that's offered playing a few days early.

What that means is we use the resources of 1.7 earths each year but we only have one planet. You do the math on that. The scientific community is aware of that for centuries now. For a game about the promise of exploration and the future of humanity… This is uncharacteristically bleak and dystopian.
This wasn't due to global warming though, it sais Earths Atmosphere was sucked into space. Sounds more like cosmic horrors.
