What I love about Dark Samus the most is that she is the reincarnation of Metroid Prime itself. Essentially Dark Samus is Metroid Prime 2. Almost poetic

I always wondered if _it_ was a different entity from Metroid Prime or if it actually remembers what happened to it. :/
Not to mention how you need to use the echo visor for the final fight, thinking about the title usage still makes me grin
Dark samus IS Metroid Prime. If you look at her face and tentacles, its the final form of Metroid Prime from the first one. She's using the Phazon suit she stole from you at the end.
It's a true testament to the quality of the original texture work that even blown up to 4k the game still looks phenomenal.
Which is why I loved the GameCube. The games looked so amazing for their time.
I love that here, as Dark Aether falls apart, that this is finally the moment where Samus realizes who her darm counterpart is - the resurrected Metroid Prime.
They have this standoff, recognizing each other from back at Tallon IV.
They raise their guns, swearing this duel to be their last.
Except it ain't their last, cuz Dark Samus pulls off a loki with a massive grin on her face.
This is easily my favorite moment in the entire franchise and shows just everything great and badass about Samus as a character. An entire dimension crumbling around her, minutes left till its destruction, when shes pinned down by her mortal enemy. And without question, without a single seconds hesitation, despite her circumstances and despite the odds, she raises her arm cannon and is prepared to fight to the death
And THAT is why Samus Aran is one of the best protagonists in gaming
0:30 is still my favorite thing in MP2.
Same here. No threatening gestures or posturing. No stammering, taken aback hero. No maniacal villainous cackling or monologue. Just a silent, mutual, understanding - and grim determination. One of the most subtly badass moments in all of gaming.

There was a small bit of phazon they didn't absorb that hit them
You know, the GameCube era sort of had a trend with evil doppelgängers. This game has Dark Samus; Mario Sunshine had Shadow Mario; Thousand-Year Door had Doopliss; Sonic Adventure 2 had Shadow the Hedgehog; Four Swords Adventures had Shadow Link. Even Smash Melee had that Dark Link battle.
In fact, most of these games were the 2nd in their sub-series.

Have you seen Dark Samus's design in Metroid Prime 3? Her armor is identical to Samus' Light Suit from Prime 2. Dark Samus was successful in getting the suit, but Samus wasn't aware about it.
And then in Prime 3 she models her new armor after the Light Suit
@Read My Name Your Gay Sorry if this sounds a bit pretentious, but Dark Samus is Metroid Prime fused with the Phazon Suit. Due to this, D.Samus is weak to the Dark Beam-and it's missile combo-as she is a being born in the world of light.
@@leothesealo4265 There's concept art of what seems to be Dark Samus with the light suit. From the looks of it, there may have originally been a bad ending where DS steals the light suit and escape and both aether's are destroyed.

This is probably one of the most frustrating fights with Dark Samus I’ve ever had.

Imagine the timer running out in the middle of the fight, with both Samus and Dark Samus halting their battle to make a run for the portal, only for Samus to arrive there first and jam a Super Missile in Dark Samus' face. Stranding her in Dark Aether while the dimension explodes.
It's such a shame this game gets overlooked. The enhanced difficulty and unique atmosphere is what made me love this game. And the final dark samus fight always gave me chills
the enhanced difficulty tends to be (at least from what I see) the reason why Prime 2 gets so much shit - but I think it's justified, the majority of people who play Prime 2, will have already beaten Prime 1 meaning it should be more difficult, but as a new player to the series coming at 2 first, I can see why people would label it as unforgiving

@@olsonbryce777it's very difficult. Prime 2 Normal/Veteran ranges from Prine 1 Hard mode to even harder than that. The game is quite well made but saying it's not difficult is wrong. Prime 2 has no chill and throws you in and tells you to get good and figure it out. While I'm not going to say that's a bad thing, in fact I think the opposite, it's still a huge challenge.

Love the fact that when Dark Samus gets hurt, you can hear it's first form scream in pain when you first fight Metroid Prime in the first game. It's a good callback too.

This whole escape sequence was such a masterpiece in execution. Using ALL your weapons and giving you that sense of urgency and fear with the timer about the dimension collapsing 🔥🔥
Ironically, for being the darkest game in the trilogy, Prime 2 ended on the happiest note out of the three.

If you look at Dark Samus’ hands, you’ll notice that they’re the same from Prime 1’s post credits scene. So first it was forming the body of Dark Samus, and then put on the phazon suit.
when dark samus approaches you in the last scene i bet she is thinking "where in the world did you get that suit, i must have it too! oh wait i am disappearing ! see you in corruption :P"
And then her armor in Corruption resembles the Light Suit

Definetely me on my first attempt. The part where you were supposed to absorb the phazon and fire it back at dark samus was so subtle that I just couldn't figure it out for hours until I searched it up.

@foxalive1772 We'll the presence of Phaz-Ing (the phazon variant of Inglets) in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, seems to hint that the Ing themselves we're born from Phazon. It's possible that when Leviathan hit Aether and split Aether into two dimensions, the Phaz-Ing on the said Leviathan we're somehow altered by either the rift that created the Dark Dimension or Dark Aethers Atmosphere changing f4om beings of Phazon to beings of Darkness.

This bossfight should’ve never been timed. The timer is the reason I can’t beat it on hypermode because pulling phazon shots is buggy
The timer is the least of your worries when you remember just how ludicrous the damage is in Hypermode. It's like everything hits Samus like a truck.

Oof, Samus' zero suit look in this game tells you how much they had to rush development of this game toward the end lol. I still love this game tho.
Any true gamer KNEW that we would have to face Dark Samus one final time in this adventure. The fact that we did not encounter Dark Samus before destroying the Ing Emperor, made it clear that facing Dark Samus was inevitable. And what a final showdown it was. Dark Aether, the Ing Homeworld, on the verge of total annihilation, and Dark Samus finally shows itself. And for those of us who witnessed Prime 1's true ending, were not surprised one bit, when Dark Samus' final form revealed itself as Metroid Prime reborn. Now a twisted merger of its true self and the DNA it absorbed from Samus Aran.
Oh damn that new power suit that samus got is better than the one that secures the phazon on her

I prefer Dark Samus' defeat here than in Prime 3. There she just explodes in pain, but here she tries to reach for Samus before disintegrating.

Ha, you've got as many missile upgrades and energy tanks as me and I'm up to the same bosses, any good guides showing the location of all the items?
If you want to find items by yourself, my recommendation is to use the in-game options menu to turn down the music volume and keep the sound volume very high. That way you can hear the low hum of a power-up. Be sure to explore each room thoroughly.
If you want to use a guide... any search of "Metroid Prime 2 __(item)__ locations" will be helpful.
They should make dark Samus and the Ing machine a spin-off of bendy and the ink machine.
I hope they HD port or Remaster this game someday.

They really did perfectly capture what an “affront to nature” would look like as a Metroid villain. Everything about Metroid Prime/Dark Samus is just inherently “wrong” when it comes to biology. She only came about because of a fluke in nature mixed with Chozo/Space Pirate tampering

I would get the drops, but then I got boosted and killed. Not even a developer was able to beat this thing without debug stuff

oh! charge beam turns to phazon beam!!! I WISH THE GAME TOLD ME THIS KIND OF SHÏT!!!!! that's the only problem i have with video games. they're not fun at all when you don't know what you're doing!!! not even a next to perfect game that retro makes has this simple game design. i don't want to have to go online to find the answers but game designers, even still, like 50 years into the business are making critical mistakes that make their customers pissed off.

RStaR RaptoR Actually if you scan that form it will say you need to collect those phazon balls with your charge beam.
The clues are there, you just have to know where to look for them. Scanning gives you the hint, you just have to work it out based on observing Dark Samus's attack patterns.
Also, games telling you all the answers in an obvious way are games that hold your hand and don't respect your intelligence as a player. At times a game may go a bit too far in obtuseness, but this is not an example of one at all.
