  • Whyte offer their lightweight E-Lyte E-Mtb in two travel options, but which is the right one for you? I tested the 140 Works and 150 RSX head to head on an old school XC start, DH finish adventure to find out. Top XC rider Amy Henchoz joined us to prove that you don't need a motor to fly up or down the Dales too.

Great video, good banter !. The biggest issue with the SX motor is the crazy required cadence, most people can't spin above 90 comfortably, let alone 120 for those 600 watts

Rode both a couple of weeks ago.
    I'm 5' 11, 90ish kg and ride a large T130
I found the 150 was heavy, cumbersome and the DHF didn't inspire confidence ( I hate DHF's as I can't get past that weird zone )
When you hit the motor limit it was like hitting the brakes and it was hard to push it through.
I didn't find the cadence required an issue on fire road climbs but mid trail when you need a boost you're in too high a gear to get any assistance.
I didn't get to do tech climbs but I'm guessing trying to balance and spin like a mad man wouldn't be fun.
I rode it in large, it also gave me lower back ache.
The only positive, the Hope brakes were astounding.
It's not just the weight, I rode a E180 in XL last year than that was a blast.
The 140 was a revelation. It had more grip ( well, trust worthy grip ) and was far more agile and poppy despite still being quite heavy over my trail bike, I could double a couple of small rollers that I couldn't even manage on my T130.
The motor was easy to push through the limit although the same spin to win nature is there and it's hard to get a mid trail quick spin boost.
I mostly left it in the trail mode, only using boost for the fireroad back up, with the lighter weight and faster tyre's it's a far better climber than the 150 too.
The only downside to this one ( other than the 11k hole in your pocket ) is the brakes, the Levels were simply crap, not just off the back of the Hopes but even against my own Deore 4 pots which I'm not a fan of.
On returning the bike I said to the rep, stick those Hopes on this! Whats the point in trying to save 100g or so with crap brakes?
I rode it in an XL and like the 180 for some reason this fitted perfectly.
My weight doesn't seem to overwhelm the *lower* power output and I'd pick this over the 150 anytime.

That's really interesting feedback thanks. I do worry that the 150 seems a bit of a 'no mans land' bike whereas the 140 has a more obvious rider. I hadn't considered how much harder it is to get up to spin speed with the SX on the heavier bike though, but it makes complete sense it would struggle that way. I'll have to try and get one in for a proper test

Great video as ever Guy, Whyte have knocked it out of the park with this bike it looks fantastic also Bosch have done a great job to get a package of full fat power (if you spin fast enough) in a lightweight package is a game changer 👌

Brilliant video for highlighting the differences and the bonuses of light ebike , even though you made look to Easy ,people still think you don't have to put effort in, I definitely think it's the way go but Biased got orbea rise .👍

Great video. Impressive part is the lady (Amy) on the Intense (acoustic) but still kept up with the e-bikes.

How about the 150 and a spare set of lightweight wheels and fast rolling tyres for the XC stuff ?
