  • So what was supposed to be a routine thermal roof inspection turned into a few minutes of craziness with my M3T. About 7 minutes into my drone deploy pre-planned mission the gimble started to drift, followed by the aircraft going a little crazy, it did not respond to the return to home request- after a few minutes of crazy behavior I was able to get it on the ground, barely.
Reset everything and tried a second flight with the DJI flight app, about 2 mins in the same behavior kicked in and it was another very violent landing. We'll see how DJI responds, it's still under the Enterprise care so I should be able to get a replacement.

Wow!!!! This is scary - not to mention the stress, hassle and delay it caused you.
Just curious if now - a year later - you've figured out what might have caused this failure? The reflector comment posted by bneilson below makes sense technically (good thought), but 3T's get exposed to more reflective surfaces (standing water reflecting the sun, polished rivets, screwheads, fasteners, etc.) every day during roof inspections.
    Questions:
*Did you or the DJI Enterprise Support Team ever come up with a theory about the cause?
*You mentioned this mission was pre-planned - were you working for a Drone Service Provider (Zeit, FlyGuys, etc.)? If so, could there have been some kind of a glitch in the mission you were assigned via the DSP?
*I can see you were in GPS positioning mode, but did you have an RTK module on the 3T during this flight? If so, was it disabled in DJI Fly?
Thanks again for posting this - very helpful to the professional drone community.

They have reflector spinners in the garden section. Sun reflection probably zapped your sensors.

Some radio interference on the roof?

maybe interferance? or maybe use dji rtk ground station for extra stability. No idea

It's some kind of hardware/software issue- I had the same bizarre behavior on a second flight, DJI is sending a replacement unit, hope to finish the job when it arrives.

Put it up in the same place again and watch the transmission graph.

It's been replaced. Shot the project with no issues

    DroneDeploy issue?

No I did a flight using DJI fly afterwards and experienced the same bizarre behavior. Barely landed it. Using one of my DJI Enterprise care replacements, hope to get it in a day or two so I can complete this mission lol.

@user-zl6wo4ss9e Yeah the enterprise care is pretty incredible. Finished the job and did another thermal map gig yesterday, this one is running flawlessly. Looking to get the M30 T if I can keep busy with gigs
