Once you go to Chicago you will understand..... The birthplace of the sky scrapers.... And they never stopped....... Give you, New York is bigger and it's definitely beautiful but there's something about the Chicago skyline...... That's unmatched... You just have to go see it for yourself....
I have a very soft spot for the Chicago skyline. My Dad was an Ironworker and helped build many of those buildings in the 60’s and 70’s. Chicago is home to many of the earliest skyscrapers, quite a few are still there.
Kabir - if/when you get to Chicago, please take the Architectural Tour. It’s by boat on the Chicago River and gives a look at the different styles, goes through a lock to transfer to Lake Michigan, where yo see the skyline from the water.
Totally agree about the architectural boat tour. It's a must. I live downtown, and anytime we have guests in the city that's the one thing we always make a point to do. I've been probably 6-7 times now, and they've all been different and unique from one another, but all extremely enjoyable and informative.
My favorite that I've seen is Chicago which is the home of the skyscraper.
I'm really enjoying this one. I think he should have included a Night Photo for each city. When I think of a skyline, nighttime comes to mind.
Especially in Atlanta
I was surprised with the daytime skylines.
Chicago is my favorite U.S. city. The skyline, history, food and people make it the best.
I live about 40 miles north of Chicago. The skyline is beautiful. The view of the skyline at night from out on Lake Michigan is unreal. I’ve been to London. London’s skyline has nothing on New York City.
The Atlanta skyline is much more impressive in person than it looks here. It has at least 4 downtown-like areas, but when you enter Atlanta from the north you experience views of 3 of them and it is magical.
Kabir, Pittsburgh is stunning as you come through the tunnel just before the bridge. The night skyline is spectacular.
Yes! Kabir, I love you and your channel, but when you ask "is it just me?" about not seeing what's so great about Pittsburgh... i'd say, it's just you. :) Pittsburgh has some of the most extraordinary architecture of any city I know, and is worth a visit on that account alone. It's one of my favorite cities to visit, and its skyline is a big part of that.
The skyscraper was invented in Chicago.
My 3 skylines made the list 😊
Born in Minneapolis
Grew up in Cincinnati
Live in Dallas
San Diego has height limits on buildings in downtown because of the airport and the planes flying in
Chicago is definitely the best, followed by NYC. As the Geography King said, Atlanta has several spread out skylines which diminishes its impact, but there has been a ton of construction in midtown, just about connecting it with downtown. The skyline in Buckhead alone, 10 miles north of downtown, would compete with many large city skylines. Not to mention the large skylines north of downtown, Sandy Springs and Cumberland add to the overall impressiveness.
I've been to all these cities. I really like Vancouver day or night. It is an immaculate city full of nice people. I loved going there for work. Honolulu is beautiful at night and has such a laid-back vibe.
It's unfortunate that he didn't include any photos of the Pittsburgh skyline at night. In my opinion that is when it looks most impressive. Driving through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and seeing all the lit up buildings appear.
I don't care what anyone says. CHICAGO has the best skyline in North America. NYC and Toronto are just a bunch of buildings lined up together, but with Chicago, the skyline is more like a work of art. Its beautifully laid out with pockets of greenery and a river that winds thru it. And the lakefront is breathtaking with the tall buildings lining Lakeshore Drive. Kabir, I think you would be dazzled by Chicago if you actually visit it.
You described Chicago perfectly!
My small town has lots of hills and great views, but no skyscrapers blocking them---no skyline whatsoever. Perfect in my book!
that's the difference between a city and a town.
Chicago next to Lake Michigan ‼️‼️‼️
She is so sexy and beautiful!
100% go to Chicago! It’s my favorite US city by far!
I wouldn’t want to live there, but yea. It’s a beautiful city.
@@MrThankman360 I lived there for 30 years after college in central Iowa. I loved it and miss it daily after moving back to Iowa. And I love Iowa.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the creator of the video didnt show Canada Place or the Convention Center for Vancouver. Those two buildings just make the skyline gorgeous and unique, yet he didnt even show them in a picture at all
In terms of beauty, Chicago is number one. I hope you do visit it someday. I love New York. Manhattan is great, but Chicago is cleaner, has a gorgeous lakefront for miles, very friendly people. Their skyline is number one. He did not even get some of the best shots from Lake, Michigan looking back at the skyline. Nope. Visit for yourselfcago is definitely #1.
Vegas and Seattle are my favorites. They are also both home to me. In the winter with snow capped mountains in the background Vegas is absolutely stunning.
I adore Chicago and Vancouver. Both are fantastic cities. ❤
Vancouver has been my favorite city in the world since i was 7 years old. My uncle used to have family there and it was the most beautiful place i've ever been to
I would bet money that when you get to Chicago you will love how big it is, how much fun it is and how clean it is. Walking over the bridges will take your breathe away. And with more to come, it will become so much better. Even New Yorkers are impressed by the sure beauty of our great city. It is A SUMMERTIME CITY, but there's more in the winter. I enjoyed the presentation thank you.
Hey my friend, I am in Dallas, born and raised. If you have any questions just ask. Now the building with the lights on the edges is the Bank of America building and those lights actually can change colors depending on what is happening in the world or country. The building with the ball on top is Reunion Tower and it rotates, it also has two restaurants and an observation deck so if you are sitting for a meal you will see 360 degrees of the city.
Atlanta has 4 or 5 areas that are miles apart, but the skyline is gorgeous when you look at it from Stone Mountain or Kennesaw Mountain. It's impressive when you get a better perspective.
Chicago has the #1 skyline! Home of the Skyscraper 🇺🇸
So is New York city
bro take away the sears tower that shit is mid af nyc bodies chicago's skyline
Toronto’s skyline is pretty stunning. To combat blight, some cities have programs to incentivize rescuing houses. Blight in our cities is caused by disinvestment, white flight, depopulation, freeway building, and redlining.
The impressiveness of the Pittsburgh skyline depends on your vantage point. If you approach the city via the Parkway West you travel along an expressway which kind of goes through nowhere, then you enter a tunnel, and when you exit the tunnel you're suddenly looking across the river at downtown Pittsburgh. It's especially impressive at night. A few years ago a magazine referred to Pittsburgh as the only city with a front door.
@sarco64 💯.
Toronto has cranes up everywhere. Toronto's skyline is growing by the month it seems like. Mega tall skyscrapers being built today.
This video is 5 1/2 years old, and since then the skyline here in NYC has changed quite a bit with a huge building boom. Since then, the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th tallest buildings in the USA have been completed, along with a dozen more new buildings over 900ft. There are also a bunch more currently under construction. For comparison, NYC now has 15 buildings that are taller than Britain's tallest, The Shard in London. Also new is The Brooklyn Tower, the first supertall skyscraper in NYC outside Manhattan, and now the 19th tallest in the country.
Atlanta Georgia has cluster high raises. There is a building called the King and the Queen, it's neat to see and when it is lit up even better.
The Vancouver skyline is unbeatable, with the mountains and the ocean. So beautiful.
A while back I DM you a photo of my view. It's the skyline of NYC. I live right across the Hudson in Jersey. I've been waking up to that view for 30 years.
NYC,Chicago and Toronto are definitely top 3 would have liked to see Monterrey and Panama city in the top 30
NYC, Chicago, Miami, L.A., Houston, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto… Those are mine in order. San Diego is very short because the proximity of the airport to downtown- extremely close. San Diego however, has significantly grown in the past 20yrs. It’s been a constant view of cranes there. I lived there from 2002-2009. L.A. is my home city. For being the second largest city in the U.S., it doesn’t have the density like NYC and Chicago and that’s because it grew outward rather than upwards (earthquakes played the part). Houston and L.A. are very similar. I’m being biased. I think Houston’s skyline falls below L.A or equals it.
Honolulu is the most beautiful geographically. The natural scenery adds to its charm. L.A. being situated along a mountain chain makes the city very picturesque as well especially during the winters when they are snow capped.
I live in Edmonton and our River Valley is absolutely stunning.
@ 26.46 That is the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore. The big flat section across the three roofs has a 340 metre long infinity swimming pool.
I live in Windsor. Detroit is awesome!
🎯 I'm from metro Detroit - in all seriousness, every Detroiter knows that the best view of the city is from Canada!
@@rudewalrus5636 lol. My Michigan family would beg to differ. But I hear you there!
9:48 😂I laughed out loud on the hurricane pun!
Miami has had Hurricanes before & none of it's Skyscrapers have ever had to be demolished. It has one of the strongest building Codes in the US.
Dallas is my favorite skyline prolly bc it was the first one I ever saw. I have been obsessed with skylines ever since but Dallas will remain my favorite. And it has changed so much since I was little. When the pic was shown, I was hoping the Omni Hotel would be lit up. I tend to stay at the Hyatt near Reunion Tower in downtown when I stay there now and I always want a room that looks out at the skyline. Since then, I have experienced Vancouver, San Diego, Chicago, Houston and will be visiting Boston next year. Dallas should be higher to me. And for this guy to say that it would be nice to have Ft Worth included, uh, just how close does he think they are. Some people think they are right next to each other but they aren’t. Yes it is called DFW area but it is further apart than people truly realize. Dallas, Ft Worth, and Arlington are all big
I love the Montreal skyline. I've been there many times & the skyline front my hotel rooms
So much of this depends on the particular photos being used. I have some shots of the Minneapolis skyline from the river bank, and a few from the 35 bridge at night that would definitely escalate it in this list. Daytime skyline photos are a waste of memory IMO.
Dallas had that big green building since at least the late '80s, which was way before most cities had that lighting. Now it's common but it wasn't then. My sister and her friends called it the Giant Green Erection.
One of the finest views of the Manhattan skyline (especially after dark) is riding an AMTRAK train moving across the Hell Gate Bridge complex. Because of the height of the bridge, the viaducts leading to and from the bridge are high above the streets and buildings of Queens. For several minutes, passengers have an unobstructed view of Manhattan. @Amtrak over the Hell Gate Bridge in NYC.
I love Geography King! Easily the best geo youtuber around. Being a Torontonian, it was nice to see my city ranked so high, and boy is it changing rapidly. There are like 8 supertalls either planned or under construction right now!
Correction!!! Atlanta is the 6th largest metro in the US with a pop of over 6.4 million according to the latest census. As of 2024 Atlanta has surpassed Wash. DC, Philadelphia and the entire Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach metro. Ranking NY, LA, Chicago, Dallas/FTW, Houston, Atlanta,(Miami/FT.L/West Palm Bch. really 3 metro's combined).
Atlanta like DFW and Houston has a massive sprawl over a huge area with many high rise downtowns. Atlanta Dwtn/Midtown, Buckhead, Perimeter Cntr, Cobb Galleria areas each are larger then many other cities downtown's alone.
Jacksonville, FL has a really nice one as well. Not too crowded, interesting buildings, nice lights at night. The skyline was even featured in an episode of Ash vs Evil Dead XD
Jacksonville has a nice setting along it's River but the Skyline is very small for a city of almost a Million people.
If you're coming to Dallas next May, then you need to take a weekend and go down to Scarborough Faire.
The tallest building in most cities is the height of the average filler building in Manhattan.
I actually agree with Pittsburgh’s placement. It’s a beautiful city and the skyline is pretty impressive for a city of its size.
Size wise I'd vote New York. Beauty wise I'd vote Chicago.
New Yorks skyline was beautiful until 2001
I would say New York for both.
That Part 💯
This video is a few years old. Seattle has many more high rises now.
So does Toronto!
I can see the Dallas skyline from my house. At work we have a beautiful view of Downtown.
In regards to Dallas, May is about as late as you would want to come here, otherwise wait until September. It gets HOT here!
Pittsburgh may not look that impressive in photographs, but it is absolutely stunning in person
Pittsburgh is my favorite skyline in the US. You have to see it with your own eyes. It is majestic from river level. No, I'm not from there. I'm from Houston.
Not sure what his criteria is? He seems to have missed the fact that Calgary has the Rockies as a backdrop.
His main love seems to be things packed as tightly as possible and doesn’t care about how it is to live there. You should watch some videos of Vancouver, it is a city that city planners come from all over the world to look at, though few have the guts to put into practice.
The city has a philosophy that planners and architects refer to as 'Vancouverism'. It was formed by a mixture of city planning and massive public consultation.
Unlike other cities, Vancouver decided to have no freeway running into or through it. Instead they opted for a 'liveable' city, where workers lived downtown, rather than commuting into downtown along several arteries as is the case in most cities.
To make this possible - and attractive as possible, builders must follow strict codes. They must build to keep sight lines open to the mountain. They must build to include public space, and they must build their high rises set back from the streets. Around the base of them they have to build low rise buildings, two, maybe three storeys high. These are generally residential, most developers include some retail space as well.
The city also insists on plenty of green space and lots of trees and plantings. The result is that you can walk around the city and feel that you are in a town. You can see from aerial shots that there are high rises everywhere, but from the ground, you are not walking through the concrete canyons and stark cliff like faces of high rises. There are streets in Vancouver where tourists go to see the cherry blossoms in the spring. Having lived in a few high rise cities, Vancouver is a huge relief to walk through, or to live in.
The thing about the Detroit skyline you only get that good river view from Windsor in Canada
Toronto is cool , Mississauga which is a suburb of Toronto has a crazy skyline now as well as Etobicoke.
The GTA could have 3 spots on this list
Atlanta is an urban planners nightmare. The metro area is enourmous covering something like 9 large counties. it takes hours to drive across in any direction most of the day on Freeways with no stopping!
Seattle WA has one of the greatest skylines in the world if you include the natural skyline too..... being the Cascade mts, Olympic mts and especially Mt Rainier & Baker, both volcanos 🌋 skyscrapers can't really compete on that level!🤘NYC's skyline is absolutely amazing & beautiful & old school in comparison 🤷♂️🤙
The angle in the photos makes it tough to tell, but the 3 tallest skyscrapers in Minneapolis are all within 1 foot of each other in height.
Chicago, the birthplace of the skyscraper, is the most beautiful. NYC has more, but the setting isn’t as stunning as Chicago along the lake and beaches. This video is old and much changed with COVID and glut of empty buildings and more people moving to already bigger suburbs. In general, the cities East of the Mississippi have more density and diversity of buildings.
I am biased but NYC skyline rules.
I feel like Miami should’ve been ranked way higher. It’s absolutely incredible imo. So modern and clean
I wish they showed Chicago at night man I’ve been here my whole life but it’s beautiful… but I can respect New York skyline being #1
Panama City, Panama also has one of the coolest skylines in North America. What a shame that it wasn’t included in this video. Monterrey in Mexico also has a great skyline.
Do Philly justice with an updated photo which includes the tallest skyscraper in US outside NYC and Chicago.
San Antonio, TX has a neat skyline and should have been on this list at least the bottom half of the list.
San Antonio is great but for a city of almost 3 million it is disgraceful how the city leaders and the Historic Design Review Committee have stopped every attempt to build highrises. There have been countless proposals that have been shot down because the NIMBYs want to keep SA a small podunk town.
@@SquidProQuo80 I completely agree with you but compared to some on this wish the city made a appearance. Well there are a few skyscrapers going up.
Chicago currently does not look like that, we have a lot more skyscrapers now than we did in these old ass pictures lbs
Hi Kabir, l live in Fort Worth, Texas, and our skyline isn't too bad, but the Dallas skyline is really cool.
I think it would be hard to beat the skyline of Dubai, globally.
Dallas my not earn points for shear size but it most certainly is one of the most UNIQUE ones in the country
He showed the Texas Medical Center in Houston that I pass by all the time. It is the largest medical center in the world, with the best, and brightest doctors. We’re very proud of our Medical Center. I’ve always liked Houston’s skyline, but I can be honest. Several of these were better, like Chicago, and Honolulu. Those were really cool looking.
This guy just likes it when the buildings are clustered together, but I'm not sure that's my favorite criteria. I like the cool architecture better. But I will say I saw the Pittsburgh Skyline in '94
and it was way more impressive in person than it looked in the photo. It also had Three Rivers Stadium in that center point back than, and now the new stadium is on the other side of the river, so that's a little disappointing.
NYC, my city. I absolutely love nyc
I'm in Vancouver; there aren't that many real skyscrapers, but rather high rises. The city has building height restrictions.
The pics he used does not do these cities justice. Number 1 and it’s not even close is Chicago. I’ll give Seattle 2 and NY 3. I haven’t spent any time in Toronto or Vancouver yet but going off videos and pics they’re in the top 5
Chicago has always been my favorite!
I don’t think size or number of buildings should be the major factor. Color, texture and balance should count.
I’m from Dallas and I think Las Vegas is over the top. And I love things that are over the top! Love it. I don’t agree with his choices or ranks. Sometimes it’s just the photo angle
I live in Dallas and I don't recommend coming in May unless you like hot/humid weather (although it is only starting to get hot during that month and it will still be bearable to go outside). The hottest months are between late May until late September. So the best months to visit would be October to April.
Something to think about... The west coast like California is on an active fault line for earthquakes...
The pictures he uses of Philadelphia do not show the newest building, which is the tallest building in the US outside of NYC and Chicago.
You need to get pictures from up to date sources. Some of these skyline photos are 10 years old. Several cities like Philadelphia, Atlanta and Houston have put up more than 10 skyscrapers since the photos in this channel.
Miami is a vibe
A very bad one.
You should contact Laurence Brown to go to Chicago, so you can live through it
Anyone cracking jokes about "living through" visiting Chicago I'm going to just assume has never stepped foot here. I've lived in the middle of downtown for years, and I have never once felt unsafe. That said, Laurence does have good content.
@@kamehousekz87 i born and raised on Chicago's southside. lived yhere first 40 years of my life.
@@emmettdwyer7584 I stand corrected, then. Sorry if that was your experience living here. I've lived here closer to 10 than 40, but have always been frustrated with the bad rap the city gets. We have our problems like every other city, but on the whole I have found Chicago to be wonderful.
@@kamehousekz87 Thank you so much for that. With over 50 million visitors each year there has got to be something good about our city.
check out the skyline and density of São Paulo Brazil!! With 28 million people half of them live in skyscapers.
It should’ve shown the Los Angeles skyline at night. I think they should’ve showed all the skylines at night.
His video seems to take in the surrounding area and backdrops in his skyline rankings. If just focusing on the skyline itself, I would've put many of his higher ranked ones lower. Miami should've been much higher. The best view of NYC's skyline is from New Jersey. John F. Kennedy Blvd East in West New York NJ will give you a great elevated view of midtown and downtown. Check it out during sunset where the orange and purple color of the setting sun bounces off the buildings' glass.
The Seattle photos don’t do the skyline justice. It needs to be seen when it’s sunny and you can see Mt. Rainer more clearly.
Calgary has the secind largest number of head office buildings in Canada. Toronto is first, by quite a margin.
Seattle should be higher. Search for images of Seattle skyline at night
I'd rather weather a hurricane in a high rise than a house.
I don’t live in Detroit, so this is just a guess. If a house was listed for $10, it’s a scam.
If it’s too good to be true, it’s a scam
Vegas? Seriously?
Physical infrastructure does not a skyline make.
Vancouver with the ocean AND mountains put NYC to shame.
These are distance pictures. Looks different when standing right there
Only one I'd add in the US is Austin, I think it's a rising star skyline. Also, if you include Mexico (North America), I'd put Monterrey, Guadalajara/Zapopan, and Mexico City. Otherwise, he about matches my thoughts.
Pittsburgh 100% top 5 skyline
this dude says prior to going to NY, he thought london's skyline was bigger than NY. LOL!
London just started building a tall building within the last 20 years. THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING OPEN IN 1931.
That Dallas skyline is super out of date. Plus we’re at 8.1 million population right now. 4th largest metro area.
