"If you don't know yet, then be at peace. Because God is not calling you to answer a question he hasn't asked." OH, those are words that bring such peace to my heart. Thank-you, Father. That should be on a sign stapled to the walls in every vocation centre. It should be on the first page of the first chapter of every book about vocation. I reckon it would alleviate so much misplaced anxiety for earnest young Catholics, or even Catholics of any age.

How do you know the mind of God if He (a male) is beyond your comprehension?
@@JamesRichardWiley Er... I don't know where to begin with responding to your comment. First off, while it's correct to use male pronouns for God (since He uses male pronouns for himself), God is not "a male": God is God, beyond the biological and divided human concepts of male or female. I guess you could be referring to God the Son specifically, who took on male human form specifically...? But still, God the Son is one of three persons of the trinity and the only one who took on a human body, so referring to God Himself as "a male" just seems off.
Then about knowing the mind of God... obviously, we don't? The only things we know about the mind of God are what God Himself has revealed to us. While certain things are discoverable through the light of human reason (e.g. that some non-contingent source of contingent existence must exist), there are other things that _cannot_ be known through reason alone, and we only know those because God specially revealed them to us. That's why it's called Divine Revelation, not 'the product of human philosophizing.'
I'm not trying to be artificially dense, but just don't follow what you were trying to ask here. Could you clarify your question?
_Edit: PS, I apologize if you were asking an honest question and my response feels jolting. I regret that my response here was dismissive. To be honest, the way you said "a male" made it sound to me like you were mocking the beliefs of people of faith, and I found myself responding to that impression, rather than looking for the most sincere possible intention that could be behind the question. For example, it now occurs to me that maybe you were sincerely asking how an individual Catholic is meant to go about the process of discerning God's will in our lives, when most typically we don't expect to head audible locutions telling us what to do. If you were asking more about how a regular Catholic is meant to discern everyday things, feel free to clarify that and I'll be happy to respond! PS My response will probably start with pointing to St. Ignatius' rules of spiritual discernment, and a book co-written by Fr. Mike here._
I told my family I was interested in religious life and they promptly discouraged me. I was already codependent and allowed the need for external validation to decide for me. But then I married a fantastic man and we have two miracle children, married 19 years. And I know this is my calling, but I wish my family allowed me to actually go through the discernment process so I'd have clarity all along.

Yes! I keep telling myself I have time, we know we're not guaranteed. I want to convert to catholicism. I keep getting great videos to encourage that. I prayed half a rosary at work tonight, and keep getting blessed through RUclips with encouraging videos. I used to hate living in a technological environment but now I see how blessed I am. Even ad I type this AI is finishing my thoughts. Time to commit.

Good catch! That was a typo.
"Delayed obedience is disobedience". Not to be too obvious here but "deliberation"; giving yourself time to think about it is...um...delayed obedience.
It's that most ppl don't like the directive, they don't like the answer given to them, they don't want to hear or believe that what they are receiving is the actual thing they must/must not do, thus, they "deliberate to think about it" in order to avoid it, or to see if a different answer/directive is given, or to do something similar but not exact so that they can follow their own will while making themselves think that they are doing "good", thus, "obeying". These are all errors and unfaithfulness.
If two options are given it's better to pray the Holy Spirit guide you down one rather then to choose one yourself. He knows your heart and which path will lead you in fulfillment.
When you trust God, you hand your heart over to him; you circumcise your heart.
I think "deliberation" is only disobedience if it's clear that God has given us a command. If the deliberation is to figure out _whether_ God has given us a command, or to figure out the best way to achieve the thing God has commanded (if He wasn't specific), that's not disobedience. So like for example, if the Church unambiguously teaches something about the moral law and requires us to give assent to this, we cannot 'delay' our assent on the excuse of "deliberation". We must assent in faith (even if we wrestle in private with coming to terms with something we didn't understand at first). But e.g. if some random priest (or even a vision, or a 'voice inside our heads/hearts') claims to be speaking on behalf of God, and says something that sounds at odds with Church teaching or that we believe legitimate Church authorities would guide us to be cautious about... taking time for deliberation isn't 'disobedience' to God. The very point of our deliberation is to make sure we're aligning with God, not acting outside of or even against the counsel he would give us.
@@caterinadc5567 what you are discussing is basic reasoning and rationalization in accordance with institutionalized constructions that play on your personal decision making.
That's a completely different topic of discussion which can only be confused if the voices in one's head are not ever isolated and/or distinctly spoken "in clarity".
Meaning, rational and logical thought pulls in reason through thought. Then there's Command Voices. Command Voices are born of temptation, mental illness, drugs, and/or some other intrusive factor that ignites impulsively through some sort of diabolic obsession or perhaps a lapse in the brain's reward system which, too, is distinct to itself and usually found as bothersome/unwelcome to the individual suffering such manifestations.
So, what makes the comment I made different from your discussion is locus and approach.
God doesn't wrestle in reason with us, thus, His voice is very much distinct and clear.
