The Triffids .My favourite band. I thought I had Everything until I found this. Thank you so much for posting.
I met David in Sydney in 97. He invited my girlfriend and myself back to the band dressing/drinking room. We were made welcome for over an hour by The Red Ponies and The Dirty Three. Lovely people , every one of them. David sketched and signed a birthday card for Martina (GF) to send to her Dad back in Ireland. ( God knows where it is now , Fuck). I asked him why he hadn't released any new music in a while , and he told , without any drama, about his open heart surgery. We were shocked ,and not sure what to say , but Dave just laughed it off , and handed us each another can of beer. When I got home to Ireland six months later, I picked up a year ending music magazine , and there was one line... Telling me that David had died.
All these years later I still get chills.
He signed 3 CDs for me which I still Treasure.
A true gentleman, and Genius.
Thank You Dave. You are missed by so many, everyday .
R.I.P.
Only found this today. Many of these songs were new to me despite being a big fan of the Triffids. Somehow I couldn't quite bring myself to listen to the demos - I knew I'd find them tough to listen to. Big Fan? They were and are my favourite band. Dave really did keep his songwriting powers right to the end. Kiss Him is an absolute heartbreaker - every inch as good as Stolen Property. And I loved the version of Seabirds - what a lyric, what a song. Inevitably there's a deep sense of melancholy listening to this and thinking what might have been in an alternative world. RIP David McComb - you touched my life.
This is iconic
Great to learn that DM was doing great stuff til the end. RIP mate.
Thanks for uploading this joyous, and contemporaneously, tragic playlist. Such a tragic loss.
I know of one D McComb's solo album and BLACK SWAN being the last TRIFFIDS album. Are there any others??? Always been extremely fond of THE TRIFFIDS. So many great albums with TREELES PLAIN being a forgotten classic !
The Blackeyed Susans: All Souls Alive
thanks !!
A hint of Lou Reed in a few of these songs..
Went to this ...
All new great songs to these ears. Availability on album?
I dig costar
The only band to support Christopher Shase :)
