    Outstanding! Thanks for sharing. An absolutely valuable resource for anyone using OOM and learning to map. I'll need to slow it down to get the individual keys combos. I'd also love to see a forest version.

    Hey David. Very interesting and useful video for an aspiring mapmaker like me! I really enjoyed this, and I hope you'll have the time to make a video about forest mapping as well.
    Well done! 👍

    Will you be doing more mapping on this channel?

      Maybe ... I hope to, but the last few years have been very busy, and most mapping projects have not been suitable for livestreaming their creation, since they were to be used for major competitions.

    Hi David, thanks for that video. Do you have the Episode 2 or something including the steps till get the map on paper?

      Hi Matias, this was streamed live and then posted. I have been pretty busy and traveling, so I have not had a chance to create another episode yet. I hope to stream a forest map updating stream late in August, but that is TBD. It is also in the long term plan to make a video dedicated to creating pretty map layouts in OOMapper as well. For getting it onto paper, there are a multitude of different options for what to do. At the simplest, just File --> Print, or File --> Export --> as PDF. More complicated options like opening the file in a course setting program like Purple Pen are also available. I recommend trying things yourself, and if you get stuck, posting on an orienteering forum like Attackpoint.

    Hi👋, I have a question, how do you make the line look nice especially on the road? Mine was not smooth, too many sharp edges

    • @DavidB-cs9he

      With the "Draw Paths" tool, use single clicks of the mouse to make points connected by only straight lines. However, if you click and drag the mouse while drawing each point using the path tool, you will make curved lines. It takes time and practice, but learning how the curves will behave is the secret to making good looking maps.
      If you accidentally make a line curvy that should be straight (or vice versa), you can also use the "Edit Lines" tool and while holding down the control (or command on a Mac) key, click the line you want to switch from curvy to straight (or straight to curvy). You can also edit the shape of the curve using the "Edit Objects" tool, and clicking and dragging the circular handles.
      I hope that helps!

    Do you know where I can find lidar of my area?

    • @DavidB-cs9he
      @DavidB-cs9he  Год назад

      Not sure where you are located, and LiDAR sources and availability vary a lot depending on where you are. Searching names of your local, regional, and national governments along with keywords like "Open Data", "LiDAR", etc. is a good place to start. Good luck!

    I'd love to have that script and any info you have for it. I like to use a Mac but usually end up using windows for contours:). Looks like I can avoid that with your script.

      I use Linux (Debian Bullseye) for all my basemap processing and mapping. The script uses a bunch of PDAL and GDAL based commands, and is set up for my very specific use case. I think everything is cross platform, so you should be able to get it to work on Mac with some tweaking, but I don't have any Mac devices to play around with. The script is available on GitHub at: github.com/xc-racer3/PDAL-Basemaps
