My Serrated GSM Talwar lockes up as well. They should warranty there knives no questions asked. These are defensive knives, like carrying a pistol. GSM is making a mistake by not having that understanding.

    • @Kris_Stiletto

I 100% agree. They need to bring back the Original Cold Steel Company Customer Service. The Old Cold Steel Company's Customer Service was "Top-Notch." They would have handled this issue with no questions asked. They would have just Vivien you a Return Merchandise Number and would have had me just send it to them. And, they would have either repaired the problem or replaced the Knife. And, usually, within two weeks. I really mis how the Old Cold Steel handled Warranty Issues. In my Book, so far, GSM is clunking with their Customer Service. For somebody like me, that buys items online all of the time, Customer Service is extremely important. Online, you're buying products sight unseen. So, sometimes you are just bound to receive flawed items that will need to be either returned or exchanged. I cannot trust the Company's Customer Service, I will tend to take my business elsewhere... And, O am sure I am not the only one... I hope GSM gets their Customer Service together or I may just have to take my business elsewhere. That's where I am with GSM. :-( Peace, Stiletto :-)

The Voyager Tanto XL is my favorite knife of all time, so far.
The pistol grip shape of the voyager handle really locks the last two fingers in and you can pop off a really powerful, fast and still controlled snap cut.
It’s similar to the handle of the Espadas but the voyager series just fits my hands better.

Oh, I have a lot of Vaquero Voyager Folders, too... When I first started collecting and using the Voyagers, they didn't have the Demko Tri-Ad Lock. They just had the Conventional Back Lock. I have those, too... And, most are the Original, Lynn C. Thompson Vaquero Folders, he designed for Self-Defense. So, I absolutely luv those, too... It's just that the Tanto Voyagers are my personal favorites. Why? I absolutely luv the Lynn C. Thompson American Tanto Bladed Voyager's for an Emergency or Self-Defense Folder the best. Why? They're super strong and dependable and can handle anything a super strong Folder can handle. And, they do it at an extremely affordable price. So, if they get damaged, they're super easy to replace.
But, don't get me wrong. I own all of the Cold Steel Voyager Models. My Voyager Collection of Cold Steel Knives is among the largest Collection of Knives I have from Cold Steel; I absolutely luv them all!!! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

Bro, I had this problem with an old CTS-XHP Talwar 4” from the old line of cold steel. I bought it 2nd hand last month. My workmate sold it to me because of this problem. He barely used it.
You know what I did to sort it out? I disassembled it, shaved off a millimeter on the lock lever on the part that rides against the blade when you roll the action open. What this did was shorten the engagement surface just enough to release it easier. WARNING, Don’t shave off the entire side of the engagement surface. You’ll ruin your knife. You just want to clip the very corner, bevelling it and smoothening it out. No, it does not take away from the integrity of the triad lock as long as you only take a little bit ( 1mm ) off of the corner. I then polished the newly shaved off surface with diamond stropping compound to make it super-smooth. Now I can disengage the lock with one hand, just like my other cold steels.
When you file off the material off the lock lever, only do it on that little “corner” that engages with the blade when it actually locks. Take care to not get carried away and shave off material further up towards the front where the lock pin sits because that front part holds the blade shut on the closed position. Shaving that off means the blade won’t stay shut.
Also you may find that the lock lever may have the hole too roomy for the pivot pin when you disassemble it. I discovered that was the case with mine, an old production model. I sorted that out by beefing up the pivot pin with a little bit of electrical tape. Now it’s smooth and snug.
When my workmate handled it now, he regretted selling it to me.
Edit: it may be very hard to understand all this without me posting pictures. If you want to know more, message me. I may need to send you and email with photos attached.

The only one's I have had an issue with are the New, GSM, Cold Steel, XL Talwar's... And, that issue was the Stop Pin being the wrong size.

Mannnnn I bought two different Talwars, from 2 different companies. One Plain Edge & one Serrated. Got them both in, played with both a bit, started testing for fixed blade mode & they both have it! Uggghhhhhhhh just my luck. They are both beautiful, razor sharp out of box but both have the defect. They are selling out too, especially the serrated version so I don’t know if it’s worth risking returning to Cold steel & waiting for a replacement later on or getting a refund. Maybe I’ll just hope they break in over time since I do want to carry them. Just like you said though I don’t like carry tools that don’t work properly so I don’t know, I’m in a pickle for sure 😅

One - the sr1 had blade play when it first came out and cs replaced all of them.
Two - if they don't want to warranty them, order some new ones from the site and return the defective ones. That's what I would do, they have to give you a refund.

Just to let you know, Andrew Demko always said that the Tri-Ad Lock is a hard lock type to mass produce. Because, the machining tolerances have to be right.
I have had this issue with other Tri-Ad Folders, in the past, with the Original Company. They always told me to,send it back to them and they would just replace the flawed one with a good one; it wasn't a big problem. The Old, Ventura, CA Customer Support was "AWESOME!!!" I miss them... The New Customer Support requires receipts, so you can prove you purchased brand new from an Authorized, GSM, Dealer.
The Broken Skull was made by the Original Company. I doubt the New, GSM, Cold Steel Company would honor your Original Cold Steel Warranty. But, give it a try and see what they say. Let me know; I would like to know how they treated you? Peace, Stiletto :-)

I received a Talwar XL and it was factory sealed. When I opened it, the knife was filthy and rattled when open. I returned it immediately. I also got a Hold Out 6 inch and the lock on it was nearly impossible to disengage. Returned that as well. Any cold Steel with that Tri-ad lock is hit or miss when it comes to working properly.

    • @Kris_Stiletto
      @Kris_Stiletto  5 месяцев назад +1

Sorry to hear that. Where did you make your purchases at?
I have only had a problem with the XL Talwar's I purchased when they were first released, after the buy out of Cold Steel to GSM. I purchased mine on eBay, when they first were released to the Public. :-)
All of my Tri-Ad Folders work flawlessly and wear better than any other Folding Knife Lock Type that I have tried. I don't even know how many Tri-Ad Folders I have... :-)
But, I have had some that were hard to unlock... :-(
It's been my experience that if the Lock-Bar digs down below the Liners and Scales, that's one that cannot break in. Because, the Lock-Bar is bottomed out on the Blade Tang. If that's the case, yes, return it. It's Factory Flawed like my XL Talwar's were... :-(
That's how my GSM, Cold Steel, CPM-S35VN, XL Talwar's were... :-(
I tried to return them. GSM, Cold Steel wouldn't let me return them, because I bought them on eBay from an Unauthorized Dealer... :-(
So, I fixed them. The problem was the Stop Pin Size. My New XL Talwar's had a 5.97mm Stop Pin. The Pin needed to be a 6.22mm thick Stop Pin.
So, I exchanged the Stop Pin with one that I took out of one of my Original Cold Steel Company Talwar's. And, they worked perfectly.
This bad experience with the New, Texas, GSM, Cold Steel Customer Service, turned me off, as far as the New Cold Steel was concerned. And, for a while, I just got into other Knives.
Prior, I was a hard-core Cold Steel Fan. This incident made me want to try out other Manufacturers, and I did... That's why I like to try and use all other Brands, now. I am glad this happened because I have found many other Folders and Fixed Blades that I absolutely luv, too... Especially, when it comes to fun to use Fidgeters! :-)
Now, when I buy Cold Steel items, I only purchase them from Authorized, GSM, Cold Steel Dealers. And, that's what I always recommend to other's, now...
That's my experience. It sounds like you just got bad one's. I have a lot of Hold Out's and Talwar's in all configurations Steels and Colors. And, the only bad one's were the two New XL Talwar's.
I would suggest trying again from an Authorized Dealer or Online Store.
True, some Tri-Ad Folders have stiffer Lock-Bar releases than other's; that's due to some Models having stronger Leaf-Springs than other's. That's not necessarily a bad thing. That just means your lock is a strong one. :-)
Also, after fidgeting with them, they do break in and loosen up and smooth out.
Remember, these are mass produced. That's why the cost is kept down and affordable. And, sometimes there will be Factory Flawed Knives that make it pass Quality Control...
The Andrew Demko Tri-Ad Lock is a super strong and dependable lock. Perhaps, the strongest on the present Market. I absolutely luv the Tri-Ad. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

Mine were purchased brand new from a eBay Seller. At first the functioned okay. Then, they started going into, what I call, "Fixed Blade Mode." That's when they lock up, they are super hard to unlock. Mine were part of the 1st Batch to be released to the Market, also. Because, I purchased them on eBay, GSM, Cold Steel is refusing to let me send them to them for Warranty Repair or Replacement. That left a really bad taste in my mouth about GSM, Cold Steel. The Original Cold Steel Company always backed their Products, regardless of where you purchased them, as long as they weren't marked as "Seconds" by Cold Steel.
Since then, I have decided to let everyone be aware of GSM's Cold Steel Warranty changes.
I still absolutely luv my Cold Steel Folders. But, I will not purchase New Cold Steel Products from an Un-Authorized Dealer. I hope they return to the Old, Original Customer Service, again. I bought my Talwar's in eBay, when they first became available, from a eBay, Cold Steel, Seller. So, they were part of the first batch that was available. I used to always buy Cold Steel Knives on eBay; it was the best way to get the best deals on brand new Knives.
I don't buy new Cold Steel Knives on eBay anymore, due to GSM, Cold Steel not honoring their Warranty on items that don't come from one of their authorized Dealers.
So, now, I only purchase Cold Steel Products from Online Stores, I trust, with great return policies. And, as soon as I receive Cold Steel items, I inspect them to make sure their okay. And, if not, I return them right away. I recommend that everyone does that, now, too...
I have lost all faith in the New GSM, Cold Steel Warranty and Support Service, due to my experience with GSM, Cold Steel.
The Original Company in Ventura, CA always took care of any problem I ever had; that's when I was a major Cold Steel Customer and Fan. The Original Company totally "ROCKED!!!"
The New Company still makes good products. The XL Talwar's were my only bad experience. And, I have purchased many New GSM, Cold Steel Products. But, I don't trust their Customer Service and Warranty anymore... :-(
I have a lot of the Original Talwar Folders. In all sizes. So, I just moved on. Lately, when challenged, I took the New One's out of storage and very easily figured out what was wrong with mine, after giving up on their new Warranty Service.
I found that they had the wrong size Stop Pins in them. I swapped stop pins with one of my Original Talwar's and the New One's worked perfectly. So, it was totally a Factory Flaw that was easy to fix.
If the New GSM, Cold Steel would have allowed Customer's, like myself, to return them for repair or replacement, it would have been a super easy fix for them. But, instead, they chose to not honor their Warranty.
I am sure that caused many to loose faith in their Warranty. And, perhaps, cost them many sales... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

@@Kris_Stiletto I do have faith in the new cold steel because stick still shows how tough they really are. But I do miss the old cold steel videos though it's just not the same. But I still in joy the new videos as well. I myself have never returned any cold steel knifes. I Break them on really hard use. But this talwar that I ordered the XL serated s35vn I will be taking it easy on it because of what I payed. My very first s35vn knife that I bought. The other ones just be budget ones. I have read a lot of comments about the prices of the new engaged. I think the prices for the engage are hight for that little knife and the high-end steel. For that price you should just buy a XL espada lol. But I think all the other prices on the budget folders are good and decent. Now some of those ti-lite might be a little high that's just me. Now when I start seeing the tri-lock fail then I would stop buying cold steel knifes. Then you know they are really cutting corners. Talk to you later also the t-lite Kris was a awesome price on knife center serated 65.00 that I thought was a steal.

I have sent a e-mail to GSM, Cold Steel requesting an exchange. I told them, in the e-mail, everything that has transpired since so purchased these two Talwars. I included all three Videos of them. From the un-boxing to present. I let them know that at first, they worked properly and then, they started going into fixed blade mode.
I hope they respond positively this time. I won't try to return them anymore, if they don't. I will just be very leary about buying their products Online, if they don't back them 100%. Personally, I like Company's that back their products 100%, the best. I buy just about all of my Knives Online. Knowing a Company backs it's products is extremely important to me. Because, when you purchase items, Online, sight unseen, you are trusting that the Company made a good product without flaws. And, if the product does have flaws, a good Company will repair or replace that product, of theirs, with no questions asked. That's what an awesome Company does. One's that don't care about their reputation in the Knife Community, will make it hard as possible to get them to repair or replace an item... That's my opinion... When I don't trust a Company's Warranty Service, I won't purchase items from their Company that cost a lot; it starts to be to big of a risk. I don't want to get stuck with expensive flawed products, that I cannot even resale with a good conscience... It feels like they are getting over on me and not caring about my problem with the items I received from GSM, Cold Steel. :-) We will see... Last time I went through their regular channels. This time I sent them a very detailed e-mail with Video Links attached. We will see... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

quality is slipping I think. Once they get sued because someone is injured screwing around with a defective knife they will get the problem fixed or go out of business. Those knives are great but, they can be dangerous if the quality isn't there. I haven't bought one since Lynn left I was waiting to see if any problems developed. Looks like I will be keeping the ones made out of AUS 8 and not buying anymore.

@@Kris_Stiletto Thanks man. Yes I have been collecting knives for about 12 years. I have many brands of various quality. For about 4 years now my carry blade I carry every day is the 4" Talwar. Its held up very well, of course the G10 does wear down from years in your pocket, but that is to be expected. It takes a very quick, extremely sharp edge and the automatice pocket deployment is primarily why I selected it. The CS blades with thumb pads are getting more rare very few of their new knives have it anymore

Yes, remember, those are Demko Designs. He designed the Demko Wave Plate, not Cold Steel. I would bet, that the New, GSM, Cold Steel Knife Designers, are trying to come up with their own designs. But, are trying to stick to making what Cold Steel Fans like. And, this must be a very difficult set of shoes to fit into. Andrew Demko is one of the greatest in the Knife Making World. His, is a very hard act to follow.

I can tell you straight up that GSM doesn't care. And there is no such thing as Cold Steel anymore. Cold Steel exists only as a name from the past. The company mindset and product is not the same as it once was.
My first and last GSM knife was a 4Max Scout. It was purchased through Knife Center. It arrived missing the pivot bushings. The knife was not only defective, it was literally incomplete. I attempted to contact GSM multiple times with absolutely no response. I ended up ordering PB bushings from a knife makers supplier and fixing the knife myself.
I will never purchase another GSM CS knife. I will not feature their product on my channel.

I totally get you and your experience. Mine is very similar. But, every other Old Pattern Cold Steel Folder I have purchased has been just fine. But, due to my experience over my Talwar XL Folders, I have lost faith in their Customer Service. They do not honor their Warranty like the Original Cold Steel Company did. The only new model Folders In have tried are the Oyabun's and the 3.5" Blade Atlas-Lock Engage. Though, I did not like the Budget Oyabun, because if it's build quality, it was put together properly; it was just a kinky knife, to me...
Because of that, personally, I wouldn't purchase a new Cold Steel Folder until I have heard other's say it's a good Knife to purchase. Why? Because, I don't trust the GSM, Cold Steel, Customer Service to take care of me, if I have a problem with one of their products. I totally get where you are coming from. @@Kris_Stiletto you have to open the knife. You will notice that the lock bar head fits too snug near the tri ad lock bar. It barely has room to move with this knife. So what you do is take off a bit from the lock bar head that goes down into the tri ad lock. You could use a simple ceramic rod (as I did)..once u bring it down to size (a bit) you'll notice that it actually has room to fall easier into the tri ad lock. Put it all back together and the lock stick is now gone.
It seems that GSM made a possible mistake on this model.
Open the knife gently and notice how stupidly tight the lock bar and tri ad lock are. It has no room to move so it jams.

You can't have an expensive knife company that won't take care of you. Especially on their dedicated fighting knives.
I have a growing CS collection and I'm given pause with this treatment of customers.
The Talwars obviously show no signs of abuse, or even "use".
Thousands of my own dollars, for knives, are gonna find a different company if they don't do you right on this one.
I have personally, already bought well over $1000 worth of Cold Steel knives this year,, based on watching your videos.

I personally luv all of my Cold Steel Knives that I have purchased over the many years that I have been collecting them.
The Old Cold Steel had Top-Notch Customer Service. Just like the great experience I recently had with Demko Knives, Cold Steel used to be the same way. They cared about their Products and their Customers. And, always stood behind their Products 100%.
GSM, I feel, cares more about making money and keeping their Stock Holder's happy more than they care about the Company and it's Customers.
But, don't give up on them. They still are making some great items. Especially, the continuation of some of the Older Models has been great. All of the one's I have purchased since the takeover have been Top-Shelf, except for the Budget Oyabun 26T and my pair of XL, S35VN, Talwars. The Oyabun works perfectly. I just didn't like the flimsy construction. But, my Talwars are Factory Flawed and do not work like they are supposed to. Those, I expect Cold Steel to replace, like they would in the old days. But, instead, it's been a struggle.
Myself, I always like Tools that are backed 100% by their Manufacturer. I hope GSM, Cold Steel makes a change and reverts back to the Old Cold Steel Customer Service. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
