When I was 12 years old I met Tom, at my cousin Mike's, house in portland. Tom came over for a BBQ. He had a paper sack full of 40's of old English. Now my parents drank beer and would race each other on 16 oz glasses of beer. But know Tom pulled out a 40 cracked it open and in one big chug a lug it was gone.. I was 12 he was one of the reasons I got into guitar. Just wanted to share some smIles. Thanks Tom.
At 55 I still listen to PI. Pig / Tom was an exceptional player and arranger. He kept getting better to the point that if he were still around he’d be doing something crazy musically. I’m glad I had the chance to see em live once.
The first time I heard PI was when I was in high school in 87. It was Kings of Punk and Tom's guitar playing melted my face and blew it against the wall in wet little chunks. I saw PI in Portland @ the Pine Street a couple times, Portland Meadows, even the Blue Gallery in 1988 to 92 when they were at the height of their drunken obnoxiousness. I consider myself fortunate to have been there. RIP Pig Champ
The very first note of Lifestyles on The Kings of Punk album changed my life. It is in my opinion the greatest guitar sound and tone I have ever heard in punk rock. Nothing even remotely comes close to it.
He was scary smart! one of few people i felt i had to watch what i said (in the few times i talked to him as an aquaintance) so i wouldn't come off as a total idiot!
hey I think Tom's birth year was 1959 are birthdays were a couple days apart and we couldn't get into a Ramon show we are 20 years old both of us at the same time I was born in 1959 and that's a good video, I met Tom in 1978 at my granddaughters house he used to play in Malice he's also dead to oh yeah we went to a remote show we bought tickets early acdc must before they didn't tell us it was a 21 show it was like in September I think and we went on a waiting line then we go to the door and they said IDAnd we are both 20 and so while we couldn't get in so Tom had a great idea to call a bomb threat into the Earth Tavern we bought a case of low and Robt went to my moms house basement and wait for them to call the sheriff things are different than good video man he bought his ice cream because I had a nice man and he cut the horns off because I did that on the 19th Hoggard 1963 jazz bass I had
When you were 19/20 in 1978 you had a granddaughter who had a house? When did you start to reproduce? I couldn`t make head or tail of the rest of your comment, sure your grand daughter didn`t write it for you.
Living in Portland I got to see Poison Idea with Tom many times.

Thank you for posting. He was one of my best friends. I was thinking about him even today. Don’t suppose that will ever stop.
Is the story about him eating 10 Big Macs in one sitting true?
He was a hell of a music man God bless his soul
A scorching guitarist and a gentle giant. I have many records and continue to play them to this day.
Pig Champion was the Leslie West of hardcore punk. He is one of the greatest hardcore punk guitar who deserves a lot more than credit and props.
