Filmed under the working title Owlman: Who is coming... The Mothman Curse was filmed way back in 2012 receiving a DVD release in 2014.
The film is mostly black & white and experimental so please do not expect a standard horror film! It was my first ever go at working in live action and we all had a brilliant time filming at the Cinema Museum in South London and on location in St. Bees in the Lake District.
Most of the film was shot on a pinhole CCTV camera which gives the film its ultra-low resolution and dream like effect. If I were to remake the film would I use the same camera...? Hell no! It seemed like a good idea at the time but understandably it turns a lot of people off the movie.
The Mothman in the film is an elemental creature. It could be a demon or an alien but us Eartlings have named 'him' The Mothman although it goes by other names in other cultures and we even have our own famous Owlman in the UK (I think it's just the Mothman in disguise).
This is the shortest version of the film I have released yet. If you would like to see a longer 87 minute version it is available on Amazon Prime under the title 'House of the Mothman'
An Ancient Evil Unleashed. A supernatural thriller based on the terrifying legend of The Mothman.

I actually liked the dreamlike scenes and the experimental feel. I REALLY liked the sound design! I had a good time with this! Well done! 🤗

No doubt it still has lots of "workers" who never finish their shifts... If walls could talk, what a sad story they would tell 😓...

I thought it was interesting, if a bit hard to hear at times, but I had to distinguish through the accent (ok, through MY accent, I'm from California 😉) - and that is definitely a very cool building! If it was a real theater I would want to go exploring myself, maybe not at night though! I got married in an old movie theater that was converted into a large restaurant. The owner was an actor (passed away a few years afterward) and took us through a full backstage tour at our rehearsal dinner with stories of his performance days, it made it extra special. Thanks for a good show!

Ok, having properly revisited this a second time, I must say I enjoyed it a lot more. Still the same basic criticisms (a rather annoying visual style and an overly aggressive soundtrack), but I really think you should revisit this story, reshoot it, rework the narrative a tad, and I can guarantee that you will have a splendid film on your hands.
By the way, before shooting this, had you by any chance seen a British b/w short from 1968, called 'Whistle, and I'll Come To you?' Some of the beach shots reminded me strongly of that one. Even the sound effects. An hommage maybe?
Anyway, thanks for an interesting experience.

Thanks for giving it another go! I think a remake could work well but we'll see. I have seen the '68 'Oh Whistle' and all of the Ghost Stories for Christmas. When I was editing the film originally the title was either 'Owlman' or 'Who is Coming' directly from the M. R James story. I have 4 animated M.R. James ghost stories on my channel if you are interested. All the best

I think I get where you were going with this one and props for some decent camera work and sound design but all in all it was a wee bit too 'arty' for me (though that is a personal opinion) did have a creepy and surreal atmosphere though...definite vibes of early Polanski, Romero and Herk Harvey, would love to see what you could do with a half decent budget and a TV platform.

@@MansfieldDark definitely keep experimenting with different styles guys, keeps it fresh and that is one thing that is sorely lacking, am definitely going to watch this again with a different head on because, like I said before, I found the sound design and camera work really effective...definitely reminded me of 'Carnival' (also one of my all timers) and Polanski's 'Repulsion' the juxtaposition of the grainy B&W and the washed out old stock colour worked really well, oh and I'm being a bit slow but I love your regular use of the phone as a conduit between worlds...I love a good motif

I loved the demon tape and other movies, I didn't so much dislike this one as much as I was able to skip forward 45 minutes in the middle of the movie and feel like I didn't miss anything. I guess it's more a journey rather than destination movie but the journey was too much of the same for me. I enjoyed it much of it, just not all of it.

    • @josephdrach2276
      @josephdrach2276 3 года назад

I agree with you Jeremy Barnes. The movie was scary but never actually ended. There was no Mothman, no local punks banging on the door and placing odd phone calls, no explanation except that there nerves were getting more and more frayed. A legend here and a legend there but nothing to really tie things together. After the first girl just leaves, wisely, the second one goes back inside. You couldn't pay me to go back!! She is crazy to even try. This being said, the other girls explanation of it being the building and how she couldn't take it anymore would have been good enough for me, given the unending fear. Was the "Mothman" basically fear itself? Was it fear+exhaustion+the sounds of an old building+some urban legends? I like the sound effects, the way a simple flashlight was used to indicate scary things coming and more. . just don't really get the title "Mothman".

  • @ulfingvar1

Great story and production, but why shoot it like that? You can resort to that sort of look for dream and "vision" sequences, but a whole film? Naw, didn't work that well, though I appreciate the desire to experiment. Might've worked better for a short subject. Oh, great sound work, too.All your other stuff is bloody excellent!!!!!

@@MansfieldDarkWell, if it had been shot using "real," stationary CCTV cameras, it would've worked better (though also restricting your ability to move around, but I can see that leading to some creative solutions).

      The camera, not so much.
      Just a thought.
It might of been a idea to double up with an ordinary camera too.
(If possible of course) an compare the footage for the most impact. Thats coming from a person of no artistic talent perspective (me 😁) though.
Definitely looking forward to seeing more of your work, hopefully soon 👍👏👏👏
