    The creeks in your area are so beautiful, especially the last one in the video with its striking banded formations. All the creeks look like they're full of minerals. How exciting to be able to pan out some garnets from them! Thank you for sharing this great adventure in prospecting for gems. It was very enjoyable!

      Thanks!! I really like those banded formations too, looks like a big Oreo cookie or something haha. I'm hoping at some point this summer I'll find some gemmy garnets, there are so many around here that there has to be a spot with some gemmy ones, I just know it!!😄

    Liam... You need a classifier. 3/8ths minus .. it helps with getting rid of larger rocks out of the pan & you could classify everything into a 5 gallon bucket ( 21 pans per bucket ) :)

      Thanks!! I just recently got back from a trip but I haven't gotten around to editing the footage yet. It was supposed to be an vlog series of the trip but my plans didn't quite work out this time so I'll likely just split it up into individual videos. Glad to hear you get something out of these videos, hopefully I'll get some more posted soon and share some more adventures!!

    The waterlines are probably from the village that used to be across the road. Look in the water during low tide and you’ll see the stumps from the boardwalks and the houses. My grandmother was born in sunnyside. I think they demolished it in the 70’s. Most of the creeks are man made. Along the tracks are beautiful chunks of golden pyrite and chalcopyrite in the cliff side. Park at the yellow CN gate and walk down the tracks towards the old houses (they’ve been torn down now) just before the little waterfall I have destroyed the cliff looking for more white crystally stuff with the gold chunks lol I wish I had photos of it

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 года назад

      That's awesome!! there's so much history back there, someday I'd like to hike along the shore all the way to the river but that'll have to wait for next year. I'll have to take a walk along the tracks one day and see if I can find the spot you're talking about, lots of work has been done along there in the past couple years so it might have been dug up.

    Signs of pegmatites

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 года назад +1

      mostly just muscovite and feldspar in these pegmatites. Sometimes you just never know what you will find though!! If a pegmatite travels through a different body than its source it can create some interesting minerals!!

    Did you find any gold? I thought that garnets and gold were found together. Great video.

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 года назад +1

      Thanks!! There could be gold in with all the pyrite but no visible gold in this area. Gold and garnets both have a high specific gravity meaning they are heavy minerals and like to settle at the bottom of the pan together. if both garnets and gold are present you'll likely find both while you're panning🙂

    You mention looking for pressure systems. How do you identify a pressure system? Thanks!

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  Год назад +1

      For sure!! When I was talking about pressure systems I was mostly talking about eddy currents. What usually happens is the water in a creek or river will flow over an obstruction whether its a log, boulder, inside bend, or cracks in bedrock and become an eddy current which creates just the right amount of turbulence in the water to let the heavy material like garnets, iron, and gold to settle to the bottom while the lighter material gets pushed farther downstream creating a pocket of heavy materials.

    • @BP2UTV
      @BP2UTV Год назад +1

      @@NWRockExplorer Thanks! Does the eddy current usually occur upstream or downstream from the obstruction?

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  Год назад +1

      @@BP2UTV Usually downstream, think of it like riffles in a sluice box. As the water runs over the riffles it sucks the heavy gold and iron under the riffle letting the light sands flow out of the sluice.

    I'm curious. Could you explain your garnet prospecting process?

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 года назад +2

      Good question!! Well generally I'll look for places with schist or gneiss then I'll go look anywhere in that area with exposed rock such as slides, creeks, boulder fields, or beaches. If I find garnets in that area I'll generally try to find the source by tracking them upstream or uphill. If you want to find out if there is any better quality garnet in the area panning will give you a good sample of the garnets from as high up as the creek reaches and will tell you right away if there is any chance of finding cuttable material🙂
