Just a tip from my hubby...Stapple a piece of sandpaper to a piece of wood (he stapples it right to his workbench table) then when you have small pieces it is easy to rub the small piece right on the attached sandpaper. Hope it helps!
I do that too, except I use wood glue so I don’t have to worry about hitting the staples, which I did every.single.time before switching to gluing it down, lol!! ☺️
I save my scraps too. I used the small pieces I used for Christmas ornaments. Some I made snowmen, the grinch, little presents etc. They turned out so cute and were fast and easy.
Here’s a little addition to the many very useful tips you give in this video: When you talked about the miter box it reminded me of this: Quite often these miter boxes are on sale and they are really affordable, so many people have a set of this box + saw lying around at home. But often times they are not used frequently and what happens then, due to oxidation OR simply bc the saw is just thrown in a toolbox without any protection on it, is that the saw becomes very DULL. And a lot of people don’t realize this, bc they reckon they haven’t used it that much, so it should be still sharp…. With all sort of unwanted consequences, such as not only making the job much harder than it should, but also: damaging the wood and let’s not forget: bc you must apply much more force now that the saw is dull, the risk of slipping becomes also bigger and thus so does the risk of injuring yourself…. So ALWAYS be aware of your tools and don’t assume without checking! ❤
I got tired of trying to find someone at the lumber yard to make my car-sized cuts so I picked up an inexpensive saber saw at Harbor Freight. It lives in my trunk (don't forget to check the charge occasionally!) so I can make cuts in the parking lot. I even cut down a changing table in front of the local antique mall (spindle jackpot!) to manageable-sized pieces!
I made picture ledges ( no...my husband made picture ledges LOL) staggered in our living room and stacked in our hallway. I just love to see my loved ones when I am in my home!!!!I may use your frame tip and make all matching frames. I just did all black. I also want to say thank you for doing more wood projects. We prefer actual wood over the press board from Dollar Tree. I've loved watching you grow over the years in your carpentry skills! Thanks Whitney.
Yes! The lumber is WAY better than the DT stuff for sure! It’s been an adventure for sure! I recently heard myself in a 2018 video say “I’m a little intimidated by the saw, maybe one day I won’t have to ask Alex for help” and WOAH! Talk about a 180 for me! :)
My son is almost 9 1/2 and I STILL sing “You are my SONshine” to him! That is an AMAZING idea, I’ve been thinking of a non baby way to incorporate it into a decor piece! 😊😊
Just built my first Blanket Ladder. I did not realize the importance of a speed square until after I finished my creation without one 🤣 Will definitely be picking one up today
OMG I was going to ask you for a suggestion for a keepsake format co worker who's mom passed and you nailed it... I absolutely love each of these and will be making them.
Great ideas for using the 1 x2s that were given to me 3 years ago and was not certain what to make with them, but could not turn down free clean wood. A towel holder will be useful.
Love it all- love working with wood and you always give me great ideas, thanks!! Also, I saw this trick that I absolutely love and have used on wood risers I made. Brush on a design with polyurethane on bare wood (using cricut stencil or free hand) let dry and then stain over it! The stain won’t attach to polyurethane and the design almost looks carved into the wood!! Sooo beautiful.
You always make such attainable projects!! I love your hints and tips as well. You really do make these projects doable for those that might be venturing into something new!! ❤❤
I'm happy to see that you keep your fingers safe when you are nailing; you never know when you might have a nail protrude unexpectedly. Your projects are great.
Oh my goodness. I loved it all. You rock!! I really enjoyed this video. Loved all the pictures from your girls trip. Such a cute idea the wood thing you made to display them.
About your speed square... Since you have one already, it would behoove you to watch a tutorial on RUclips. Not only is this the most versatile tool in your box, but once you know how to use the degrees, figuring angles becomes a breeze and opens up so many more options to whatever you're working on. Hope this helps.
I love love love that sign with the "As the years pass" quote. I've already got the design uploaded into Cricut Design space ready to go. Beautiful projects!
I absolutely loved this!!! These are amazing.. you are such a treasure. So grateful you always bring your A game and are always posting. Half my RUclips community are barely putting out videos and it was getting depressing. TFS
Oh no! After the Christmas rush, Jan/Feb is a little slower for us to recoup so I can see why they may need a breather. Glad you enjoyed this video!! :)
Oh my goodness Whitney, thank you, thank you, thank you for this video 💕 I have tons of little scrap pieces that I was at a lost for what to do with them. You've just inspired me so much. I love watching your videos, you're so very talented and always have fantastic ideas. Thanks for sharing 🤗 xo
I love these! My husband doesn’t have a saw, but he wants one. I’d like to be able to use it too. You always impress me, you’re so talented & can use power tools! ☺️
Totally! I understand not everyone has a full workshop (I didn't have a lot for many years) and I wanted wood projects to be accessible. Glad you enjoyed it!
Tech tip for hanging anything straight and getting the screws in the wall to line up with the piece - put a piece of painter's tape on the back of your piece and poke holes where the holes are - carefully remove the tape and put it in the wall - more you know exactly where to put the screws and you can level using the tape etc. I love this trick - I even installed a complete wall of shelves in my kitchen using this method! Great projects as usual! Blessings!!
WOW!! Don't know how I missed this video last February, but sooooooooooooo happy I found it!! Thanks for all the wonderful ideas packed into this!! Love them all!! Feeling very inspired to get some of these going! Thanks again Whit🤗!
Love your wood projects, heck love ALL your projects. Great idea on the scraps that are left overThanks for all you do and for the free downloads all the time. You are such a wonderful person.
Aww thanks Tammy! I have a passion for inspiring others and making it easy for them to get started - which includes the downloads. So happy to hear you love the projects!
I loved this video! I’ve recently gotten a Kreg Jig, Ryobi nail gun, table saw, etc. and am always looking for fun easy beginner woodworking ideas :) Thank you!!
When you do your blanket ladder, cut a piece of wood you want to be the width between your rungs, and then you have a spacer so they are all equal and no measuring required. So fast and easy. My dad taught me that.
For people who don't want to buy a stud finder for a one off job a neodymium magnet is good too. It'll locate the screws in the drywall just run the magnet down from the first screw it sticks to to make sure it is a stud there
Great ideas and well-made video! One finishing tip. If you're staining your project and NOT using glue, stain all pieces before putting it together. If you stain after putting it together, you might get "bare spots" along the joints when the wood moves with changes in humidity.
Enjoyed these wood projects. It helps soo much. Measuring is key. I just love watching you put things together. Everything always looks sooo nice. Tfs. God Bless.
Perfect!!!! I got wood to make a mini ladder yesterday and planned to look up some plans for mine before i started. You handed that info to me at the best time! Always the best videos! Keep up the good work!
You are definitely inspiring, Whitney! I love, love all of your diy wood projects! I love all of your tutorials, but my favorites are your wood projects! I am starting to get into diy wood projects & love it, so thank you so much for your all of your hard work, creativity, talent, and inspiration! Stay safe, healthy, and positive! GOD bless you and your family!🙏❤️🇺🇸😊
I am so excited that you did this video! I have wanted you to show some easy wood projects. I can't wait to get started with mine now. I actually bought the wood already but just could not figure out where to start, but I do now. TYFS!!

Super cute , easy projects. Thank you. I made picture ledges a year or so ago. Such a beginner friendy and highly impactful project! Blanket ladder has been on my bucket list. Ive been laminating printed out pictures and sayings for projects, this would be great with the frames you made! Im putting them on my list for sure!!
When you talked about measuring carefully before cutting, it reminded me of a friend who used to say, ‘I cut it twice and it’s still too short.’
Haha that's too funny - I love it!
That's hilarious 😂
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Love it!
Just a tip from my hubby...Stapple a piece of sandpaper to a piece of wood (he stapples it right to his workbench table) then when you have small pieces it is easy to rub the small piece right on the attached sandpaper. Hope it helps!
Great idea! I’ll have to try that, tell him thanks!
Love that! They sound super cute!!
I do the exact same thing. But I used them throughout the year for things like little houses or pumpkins as well as ornaments and Snowman

Those framed photo mats were so high end looking.😍there all so good. And those flowers from Michael's look so expensive ♥️
I’m OBSESSED with those Michael’s flowers. My family that has been to my house and have seen them in person say they look even beer in person!
My son is almost 9 1/2 and I STILL sing “You are my SONshine” to him! That is an AMAZING idea, I’ve been thinking of a non baby way to incorporate it into a decor piece! 😊😊

Girl. I knew you were crafty and handy but, you put that together like a pro. So impressive. . That turned out amazing. Love it.💚💚

I love these! My husband doesn’t have a saw, but he wants one. I’d like to be able to use it too. You always impress me, you’re so talented & can use power tools! ☺️
I’m so glad, Sarah! Hopefully you guys can get one soon, and you can make projects together - I love when I get to do that with Alex!
I’m new to woodworking. Love that your projects can all be done with a minimal number of tools ❤
Totally! I understand not everyone has a full workshop (I didn't have a lot for many years) and I wanted wood projects to be accessible. Glad you enjoyed it!
I also love my nail gun. Since I got it, my project time has been drastically reduced. I always glue then use the nail gun instead of clamps.
So true!
Whitney, all of these were great. Iv done the latter's and the big sign but I want to make the picture frames, I love them. God bless
Thank you!

You are so welcome!! I need a sign in my garage over the work bench that says DON’T FORGET TO STIR THE STAIN!
I especially love the frames and shelf.. Nice directions..
Thanks so much!
When you do your blanket ladder, cut a piece of wood you want to be the width between your rungs, and then you have a spacer so they are all equal and no measuring required. So fast and easy. My dad taught me that.
Also, my dad always says to stain first and then you don’t have to worry about getting into all the corners and joints.
True! I’ve done it both ways with the stain hit staining first is helpful!
For people who don't want to buy a stud finder for a one off job a neodymium magnet is good too. It'll locate the screws in the drywall just run the magnet down from the first screw it sticks to to make sure it is a stud there
Good to know!
Love Love Love your wood videos. I wish you would do a video showing how to use your power tools.
Great ideas! Love working with wood.
Me too!
These are great! Love the frames and the picture shelves! Totally saved this so when my kitchen is done I can make them!!
Yay! Thank you! I'm going to be making those frames for gifts from now on, so easy and so lovely!
Great ideas and well-made video! One finishing tip. If you're staining your project and NOT using glue, stain all pieces before putting it together. If you stain after putting it together, you might get "bare spots" along the joints when the wood moves with changes in humidity.
