- Sex Matters' Helen Joyce questions why “we ask actors for their opinion on politics”, following David Tennant’s comments on a world in which Kemi Badenoch “didn’t exist anymore” due to her transgender views.
Rishi Sunak has intervened in the spat between the Equalities Minister and the actor, suggesting the Doctor Who star is “the problem”.
Tennant suggested at an awards show he wanted a world where the equalities minister “doesn’t exist any more”, and that she should “shut up”.
The Prime Minister said: “Freedom of speech is the most powerful feature of our democracy.
“If you’re calling for women to shut up and wishing they didn’t exist, you are the problem.”
Tennant won a prize for being a “celebrity ally” at the British LGBT Awards last week and used his speech to target the equalities minister.

I'm confused why anyone isn't more outraged about this. The said the minister in charge of women's rights should no longer exist. He obviously did not mean for her to shut up, you can tell on his face that he realised he messed up and he backtracked into saying she should just shut up.

But it HURTS to make a bad joke, that backfires - as a non-native speaker I understood this "shut up" a bit differntly. This whole "gender-war & self-identification" is a NIGHTMARE. His first controversial t-shirt asked to "Leave The Kids Alone" ...kids are kids, let them stretch their wings and try different things. But in this nightmare world, you have to take a stand. There is a skit where Michal Sheen jokes about David's inability to say "NO" to anything (probably no joke at all, but a sad truth).
So - if the nightmare is over and we all wake up - maybe someone like the politician he spoke out against, is no longer necessary (all is nice, the people are comfortable with each other and everyone respects certain boundaries, that never seemed to be a problem in the last millenium) - So it is not a single person, you'd rather be without, but the mind-set this person has to defend (for all the others that do not dare to speak up) - one scape-goat from the other party (Never get personal, if it is not your ex 😛)
But we are still IN that nightmare - the wish for her to "just shut uP", is gladly granted, if the issues she is fighting for, get resolved in a satisfactory way - men are not affected by the fears, women dare not to utter, although keeping stumm on a festering problems, poisons everyday life profoundly: mistrust, anger and self absentation are some of the results...
There are SOME people who are just predators - most of them are male. You find predators who claim to be female (How DARE a woman to be so vile and aggressive against fellow humans?), but some of them were born male and changed later into a transitional state (cosplay without manners).
A minority of man can't behave properly - beware of ALL men / A very slim minority of people claim to have "another sex" or gender identity - or whatever, so severe they HAVE to change everything about themselves to be themselves (sounds a bit illogical - just STAY what you are and and you ARE yourself ... being a unicorn would be nice, for all the psychic power those mythical beings are said to possess. But I am probably not, because both my parents are human). Althogh they have changed a lot, they are still human and have to use the loo - from time to time. And there are only binary-reading rest-rooms (dresses or trousers) ♀♂ not yet any other options ⚧ available. No problem if there is only ONE stall for all. Whoever needs it, may use it. But in larger structures there are whole rooms full of stalls, for one option OR the other - third or different option still missing - except maybe in the single-stall weel-chair symbol. But don't take those away from people, who have no other choice! If you are young and you pass (look the preferred identity, even to others), you will not get challenged for using the bathroom of your choice, if you are quick and discret about it. BUT lingering about and NOT passing, makes it an issue: it creeps women out, being stalked by strangers, could become dangerous later, wants them to run away - it just HURTS, if NOT taken serious in such situations and being called a bigot or worse!
Men are deemed dangerous - even the trans-people agree (why else would they try to force themselves into female spaces ? - they are afraid of men too).
You might end part of the nightmare, by building more toilets - but hat is expensive and "WHY should we spent so much money on women, if nothing gets spent on men?"
Women are perfectly fine with their toilets too, if only they would really stay that way - if there is a third group competing for public spaces, you can't just shove them onto the women and happily ignore the unease you are causing with this. Most trans-people keep a low profile and only tell trusted friends about their "former" life - a group of friends, doing lots of things together, is less threatening, than an "old fart", who insists on something, that looks absolutely contrary to what we get presented with (like small children, very old people start looking alike again, regardless of their sex or gender). Showbuiz also blurres the lines more, than everyday situations can ever do: 30 years ago, you didn't blink an eye on the ONE trans-woman. you might encounter by chance - sure, looks odd - just try to be polite, Ms XY might have enough issues already, don't add to the potential BS.
Now that there are more, more rules are needed too keep everybody as happy as possible: more care for toilets would be a huge step in the right direction! A toilet-lady in attendance might rush in and provide help, if needed - also, less people would dare to vandalize the toilets or defecete them beyond use. Those costs will pay off!
We don't ask these actors/ 'Celebrities' for their opinions, they just insist on spouting them.

I have always been baffled by the trend to ask actors and actresses their opinions - they work and live in a fantasy world. So many of them seem to have convinced themselves that because of the roles they play on the screen they actually know better than anyone else. Most cannot distinguish between reality and the make-believe world they work in.

His 10 year old son has already had an acting part in Casualty, now he is being highlighted by David and his wife as being non binary, - as David put it, they now have 'skin in the game' because of this. Now they are the cool parents who can tick off their credentials, as with so many other celebrities, of having a trans child. They get their affirmation and are on trend. Their children (in hello magazine) were pictured covered head to toe in rainbows and pride flags for Pride parade. This family appears to be steeped in Queer and gender/trans ideology and it may well be the case that the child in question is getting a lot of attention and affirmation from his parents for saying he is non binary. Sadly, if the child no longer wishes to go along with this, they might well worry about disappointing their parents and probably teachers too who advocate for this. So many children at that age don't confirm to gender stereotype and in the past that was ok, a boy could be a bit feminine or play with barbies, maybe he would be gay in future or it might mean nothing. Remember staff at the clinic that was closed down for causing harm, they joked about 'transing away the gay'. Most of us knew tom boy girls growing up. Now such children are told they might be the opposite sex or if they don't feel they confirm, non binary. I feel so sorry for children growing up these days, I'm so grateful we didn't have this at school and if we didn't conform to gender stereotypes it didn't matter, we were left alone and were not implanted with ideology that must be so confusing for kids.

Kemi should not have assumed his rant was about her skin colour but David should have accepted the award gratefully and sat down not publicly named and shamed her.
What happens if in a couple of years his son ( or what they identify as) hits puberty and decides they are actually a (biological) boy and decides they want to be named as such, will David have to give his trophy back if that’s what he got the award for?
Acting is a particular skill, but as has been shown time and time again, it doesn't correlate with high intelligence.

Happens to almost EVERYONE - at a certain age, you just believe you have gathered enough knowledge to preach to the world - parents have to do it all the time to their offspring! Even if you felt insecure most of your life, suddenly something important occures, you have to teach the whole world. Missionaries do it, and for others it just might be the first stages of a special kind of dementia: Suddenly you KNOW what should be right, your doubts just faded into the background, so you dare to speak up (especially if noone else wants to listen). Like different opinions - a lot, and as different as possible, how else could I find my own?

When I was 5 or 6 years old I had a Barbie doll for me she was action man's wife.if I was a kid now people would question my gender. I’m going to play devil’s advocate here, mostly because I quite like David Tennant; I think it could have been a slip of the tongue. He looked very slightly taken aback by his own words when he said, “until we live in a world where Badenoch doesn’t exist…” And then he immediately backtracked and said he doesn’t wish her ill, he just wishes she would shut up. She absolutely should not shut up, and it’s incredibly disappointing that David Tennant should have bought into this. It’s not at all surprising that the crowd would become so elated at the thought of someone not existing anymore.
