As much as it may seem exaggerated, if you've been a JW or Mormon it hits close to home as the ostracism, purity culture, and "climb the spiritual ladder" backstabbing culture is very real and painful.
Loved episode 1 will watch them all. Some Jehovah Witnesses will be triggered as similar parts. Very funny and as an Ex JW parts of it was my life. Thanks for this comedy.
I'm glad someone else she's this might be triggered to certain exJW's I thought I was living in the twightlight zone for a minute.......I tried to see the funny side and asked other exJW 's to watch it with me but they refused.
Another ex JW here. I got out at 16 , thank goodness. However, so much of this show brings back memories of those awful times having to grow up in the 'truth' . Lots of hilarious moments in this series.
@@bagpussarah wishing you a happy guilt free life ex jw here nice to bond over this experience with this show so many people are going to see it hope it shines a light on the crazy we grew up with…. All the best to you…
I think this sitcom is mainly just about bringing self awarness to the ppl that dont know about these cults, and mebe motivating ppl to help and chabge this society/ not let this carry on. And instead of making it rly dark they tried putting a comedic spin on it which ik doesnt hit with everyone but i think it worked pretty well.
Watched the entire 2 series of 12 episodes through the night a couple of days ago whilst playing Minecraft on PS3 on the other monitor. All the way through I kept trying to work out where I knew Kate (Fiona) from. But a quick wiki scan didn't say anything I recognised. (it is there at the end of a paragraph hidden in the middle.) Then waking up and putting the kettle on next morning I pictured her vaping. And it just clicked. "DR PEEP!" I absolutely loved that character in No Offence.
I grew up with JW neighbors, the kids were obnoxious about being JW's and subsequently got shunned on the bus, in class by the kids and in the neighborhood by the kids, my mom said we should try to be friends with them, but we told her, they don't want to be friends with us, just stand around and judge us for playing on the playground.
@LOVEALWAYSWINS1 I understand to some ex witnesses would find this funny but for others I believe it would be very triggering. Going off the first episode alone, being disfellowshiped and fighting to get a higher education isn't very funny to me.
@Channel4 Maybe as a FEMALE exJW born into the religion 37 years ago with disfellowshiped family members including two brother. I was never allowed to report my S A as a child and teenager...........ha ha ha ha
John 3:16-21 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
Such an unrealistic and offensive parody of Christianity. But of course it continues to be the only religion that is consistently mocked. I wonder why that is? Jesus himself said that the world would hate him because he testifies to their evil deeds. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.” John 25:18-22
Watched all the episodes. There are cults like that but what about doing a series of The Religion of Peace. With all there stuff exposed. Then again being attacked and beheaded by a Christian is very unlikely cos you defamed the top cheese.
It's actually really good. I was raised as a JW and hated it. I got out when I was 16. This show really does portray what happens in the JW cult and how ridiculous the rules are. It's not just a show that is 'mocking' religion. It's showing how it feels to live that life.
@bagpussarah mocking the JW faith is one thing, but it isn't just mocking JWs when it mocks CHRIST. I believe everyone should question their faith and beliefs including the "secular pharisees". I have heard some stories of things that go on in that faith and some beliefs and while I do not agree with them there is a way of showing compassion to victims without derision to Christianity as a whole.
@@_DanielFernandez_ As a 'victim' of that faith, I am glad that what goes on within it has been depicted in this show. Also, not everyone believes in god(s) and Christ. We all have a choice as to whether to watch it or not.

Yup very well put
I just escaped JW’s and watching this series was so triggering
started watching in the US and love the show so far!!
Another apocalyptic sitcom, sounds right up my alley. Also, it's great to see Simon Bird lead another comedy after the end of "Friday Night Dinner."

Wasn't really Christianity though was it. It was a cult.
