Nice scenery! It's always enlightening to view trains from other nations and to see the different designs of rolling stock and power. Since I worked in a hump yard decades ago, no explanation was necessary. Thank you.
Well shot, but unedited and far too long with no commentary. People are just left to guess at the finer details of a hump yard operation. These details are interesting. I became aware of them from another, better, website.
is anyone else wondering about the "rakes" they're using in the lower yard to pull consists together? 1:36:45 to 1:41:28 on tracks 655 and 651 I always thought the retarders were setup to get the speeds "Just right" for stacking, based on mass and wagon type
There's a lever that releases the brakes of a car independently from the loco. Before being humped, each car is made sure they don't have any pressurised air and all of their brakes are fully released. Therefore while being humped, a car can only be braked by either handbrakes or the brake equipment built on tracks. On normal operation, of course, it's all controlled by the loco.
@@georgemorin4787 they are all uncoupled except grouped ones, not sure about the brakes but probably hand released. Though, as far as i know it's as easy as pulling a specific lever for a few seconds, so it's not a big deal. Except you do that hundreds of times a day.
@@georgemorin4787 the yard staff don't always know, but the marshalling staff overseeing the logistics do and program computers to identify every wagon as it enters the yard, passes the hump and passes every single switch, whilst telling the switches where to set and the retarders how hard to brake
eddie knox, the railroad worker at 6.00 did not step in front of the moving boxcar, he was at the side of the track, can people in future have a look at videos closer, think before opening their know it all trap, you are giving railroad workers a bad name, have we not got enough to think about with the H&S watching our every move.
Thinking it's the second largest rail yard in the world(assuming it's Maschen), located Hamburg Germany, i really don't think they would even think about doing unsafe stuff. In a workplace death is just waiting for a mistake, you would be careful to avoid it.
well you made yourself look like a cock, it was the third man who ran infant of the moving box car, clear as day you might want to get your eyes checked.
Never seen a double hump before, and I like it. Saves time pulling out and shoving in cars, so keep on humpin’!

Hi David, may I ask you a question, since you worked in a hump yard? How are the cars uncoupled from each other, manually by person, or machine
What a great invention, the hump yard could concept! Who invented it?
Sooo relaxing to watch..
a beautiful film, thanks.
This is good stuff but now in the age of Drones, this is the kind of thing they are perfect for!!!
👋👋👋👋👍👍
That must be a all day job.

I played it in full to relax, i love the sounds. Amazing as it is, but yes, not very informational.

describe how it works
Need voice naration
This song really needs lyrics.
Are the locomotives diesel-electric or diesel-hydraulic?
at 6.00 a railroad worker stepped in front of a moving boxcar, a big no no here in the states
would be fired for sure
Didn't appear either of the 2 workers crossed in front of it, they were both on each side easily? Not sure what "in front of" meant there.......
I think he meant the one farther up the line
Eddie is right. Two men were safe but third man stepped across travel of brown car after it separated from the silver one
I thought a cars brakes were on when they were not pressurised by the loco?

@@MuhammedGemci Thanks, Muhammed. So each car is then hand released from one another as well?

Wrong
You need to look closer and apologise to Eddie Knox

Where is this hump yard located at ?
Im assuming Maschen Yard at Hamburg, Germany. The second biggest rail yard on the world.
This is Zurich Limmattal because Hamburg Maschen should have tracks that are PZB equipped and the mountain is not visible here
Where's the live version?
bcrnfan This is Rangierbahnhof Limmattal (RBL), West of Zurich, Switzerland.
