One might hope that a Swedish company would test their racks in road salt, but every Thule I've owned eventually becomes very difficult to operate and then finally disintegrates from corrosion if left on the car during a midwest winter.
Isn't the question why would you leave your hitch bike rack on your car? I live in Montréal Canada, which is a very snowy city where lots of salt is used, and no one does what you said, so I guess it's the same in Sweden
Great review, thank. You! Was exited to see what hey did with this form factor. A bit disappointed. That thing looks gigantic and not exactly good looking back there when folded up. … looks like the 1up is still the bar. Way more Compact looking, bullet proof and even stylish. And from the looks of it, way more stable. Also, Thule’ s little hook for the hitch receiver is known to fail when a thief with a chain and a bumper really wants that rack and the bikes on it. They need to get away fro that and provide a proper beefie, locking hitch pin.
JUST BOUGHT A THULE HITCH THE VIDEO YOU PRESENTED IS ON QUE SIR . THE DOWN SIDE ABOUT THE PLATFORM YOU DEMONSTRATING IS THAT WHEN FOLDING IT BLOCKS YOUR LICENCES PLATE.
Helium is really a nice bike rack BUT I would rather get 1up USA bike rack over these reasons: - sleek and slimmer designs even for two bike carrier, it doesn’t cover my car license plate and the material is more elite - robust, rugged and also lighter.
I have a different model Thule rack and it too covers my license plate.., While it is illegal to cover your plate, I don’t know many racks that offer full view.., I think if you want a rack, covering your plate is just something you have to live with(and risk getting a ticket over)
The 1.25 hitch is a disappointment IMO, I feel adapters give too much flex. The whole system looks not to be near as solid as Kuat and 1up. Companies also should start getting serious about locks, as the cable looks anemic. It would be nice if they partnered with Abus for a solution, as something that can be broken in ~10-30 seconds is unacceptable. This is why I will buy a 1up and weld in a hardened steel solution.
I see that Thule also has a 1 bike version. Seeing that you also had/have the 1UP rack, how do you compare between the two? I wanted to get the 1UP rack but they are currently on backordered and I need to get one by mid-July for a road trip so I am looking for an alternative and Thule Helium Platform 1 looks similar and promising. I like the included wheel and hitch lock but I don't know if like the plastic components. Your thoughts and opinion would be appreciated. Thanks. Note: I have a 5th generation 4Runner.
I had the Helium Platform 1 but, it was returned after only 3 weeks. It was a solid rack but, when I first bought it. I thought the grey plastic release handle that is in the arm, felt cheap and didn't match the solid build of the rest of the rack. Well, that is exactly what failed on mine. I could no longer release the arm from the locked position. Since there were no replacement parts available and it couldn't be replaced with a new one until late August. I was given a full refund. After the fact, I've been reading other negative reviews regarding that handle. I'll wait until Thule works this one out. In the meantime, I have a Saris MTR 1arriving in a few days.
i kind of feel sorry for 1up, i just returned their $850 equip-D model rack. they are getting squashed by competitor copying and improving their ideas.
Came to say this thing is garbage long term, not designed to be easily maintained. The lever will begin to get stiff and there’s no way to lubricate the parts inside. Never again.
@mtbr great reviews. i decided on a thule helium 2 photos.app.goo.gl/VDPEZoXneFpGSBpj6 over 1up and quick stuff based on this review. they are all 3 great racks, but for my needs the thule had little details that made me purchase over the others. thanks!
Thank you for great review. I ordered one right after watching your video

Between the Inno INH20 and this rack, which do you prefer? do you believe the higher priced thule is worth it over the inno?
I have this rack, and now 3 of the 4 arms won't disengage, no matter how hard I press the grey button on the arm! Anyone have any remedies??
How does it work on road bikes
Liked your video. Good presentation!
What is you have fenders on your commuter bike?
I currently own the thule xt2pro, Do you think this is worth upgrading to? Is this as good as the oneup or is the one up still better?
what are the rules around the license plate being covered by the rack?
Nice review of a nice rack; but, covering up the license plate (when in its stored position) might be an issue for the highway patrolers out there.

Address using on bike with fenders, racks needs mount for license tag
Excellent review

Thule T1 vs Thule Helium1 or Inno Tire 1? Do you have an opinion?
1up
Its covering the license plate when folded up.
Nice!🌶
The hitch attachment area looks very thin. Scary thin.

@@titocruz181 not surprised you two are having issues. This thing looks flimsy, weak and plasticy

How is this helium an improvement?? Wobbles like crazy, looks cheap as F. too
No ebike eh?
The ratchet mech is garbage had mines 3 months and doest disengage..thule says 2 weeks just to answer my warranty ticket..
