Someone get this man a gimbal for Christmas. Nice moon/Venus shot at the end
And a wind sock!
Love the barrel/wedge framed by striated structure at the end there. Big props for ending the chase with Hard Sun too.
Wow, thanks Skip for the kind words. I really like your video as well! You put together some great stuff. Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what you do next.
It doesn't get Eddie Vedder than that!!
I love the video, makes me feel like I am standing right there watching...Outstanding and Thank You for sharing
Thanks for the kind words!
Your end footage is the most amazing of the calmness of Nature next to the vortex of Nature. You get my Emmy!
Thanks!
I live right by the Will County/Cook County border and I swear tornadoes get closer and closer every year. I honestly feel like we're going to get a tornado up in the Peotone area or even the south suburbs this tornado season.
Was born in Cook County in 66', and we lived in Addison, IL (NW side) til I was 5 and my late father worked at O'Hare for American Airlines, before we settled in DFW from 71' and after.
I remember in 67' my mom said a tornado came within a half mile of our house while dad was at work. I was barely a year old and obviously have no recollection of it.
I'm about to turn 55 now, a senior meteorologist for the NWS with less than 2 years before I retire with 30 years of service.
How things came full circle with me with my infatuation with weather (particularly tornadoes when I was kid in the 70s and early 80s).
Jump to 3:00 for the start of the tornado.
Thanks! The App is called RadarScope
Pilot.93 thx dude
Pilot.93 and woah dat tornado
I don't normally comment, but I can't resist - the ending of this video is absolutely incredible. It's honestly breathtaking, and it's beautiful what mother nature is capable of doing!
Thanks for the kind comment! It was a great way to end a great chase day
Beautiful footage. How I'd love to come and chase rather than being stuck in France. Instead, I have videos like yours. A sorry reminder of what I'm missing out on, but a relief nonetheless. Thanks.
The man killed in Crossville lived only half a mile from my teachers house. The tornado almost hit my teachers house and they said their house was shaking. Luckily it didn't hit them
cool story bro
chewchewtrain I was chasing that tornado as it passed close to Fort Branch, it was a beast
Images and sound are sharp. Thank you so very much !
Thanks!
Thanks!
Nice video! Would have been fun to see RadarScope held up in view (with the tornado) to show the most recent reflectivity+velocity scan.
Many thanks for sharing!
Great storm structure.
Thanks!
God, that was a massive tornado, right from the start. Awesome.
awesome chase guys! Ty for the upload!
Thanks! and no problem!
Incredible views of the twister and meso!
My brother was so glad these tornadoes didn't hit his hometown Poplar Bluff which isn't far from where these touched down.
I remember this day. Can't believe the tornado went all the way up to Chicago.
Well, it wasn't a tornado that touched down, but it was a watch and it was pretty scary.
very good video. excellent job of knowing where to look for the tornado
Thanks! It was a great day!
Great footage dude, I subscribed.
Thanks!
I got a bit of footage of this very tornado, but I was pretty far away due to me living in Dunlap. I got footage of its initial formation before I could not keep up with it anymore.
Soundtrack to "Into the Wild"... Perfect.
Song at the end made this even better
Damn, I only live around 30 minutes from there and we had thunder that sounded like bombs were going off, anyone else?
you might look into a mic cover to cancel out that wind noise
OK, thanks!
Magnificent and terrifying at the same time.
I have a burning question, was the black particles the condensation funnel or dust?
Great job! and was that your van on the side of the road when it first touched down? hopefully it wasn't someone broken down!
Thanks! Those were are cars. If someone was broken down, we would have helped.
Epic lightning at the end of the chase! Any damage reported and injuries?
I know it is not possible all the time but use a tripod.
Will do!
Excellent footage, what kind of map were you using towards the beginning with the red icon?
I live in southern/ central IL this is good fotage glad you guys are good we got some bad storms and an low ef1 so a lot of wind luckily my house isn't damage (baseball hail also)
im so glad i dont have tornados where i live
Outside of the shaking camera from the wind making me feel nauseous, it was some great footage. This coming from an almost 3-decade NWS senior met. I know a few guys at the NWS Romeoville, IL office.
at the end of the vid what were those two lights up in the left-hand corner of the screen?
Were you across the Il river at the start
Absolutely incredible!!!
That tornado was definitely capable of producing EF4 or EF5 damage. It looks like the Hesston, Kansas F5 tornado when it was near the end of its life cycle. The Hesston, Kansas produced F5 damage when it was 300-400 yards wide. m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=HCUHtyFcRUI
That is a very violent tornado. Had it of went through more populated areas it would have been rated EF4 or EF5. That is a scary looking tornado.
Ended up being a high end EF-3.
Yeah the damage looked high-end EF3 to maybe low-end EF4. If it would have been hitting well-built houses at its peak strength the rating likely would have been higher.
Great video! Do you see yourself being a full time storm chaser?
It would be fun but flying airplanes is more fun!
May I please use this clip in a documentary for my high school audio and video class? The documentary will be posted on Vimeo and I'll give you credit :)
Go for it! I hope you do well on your project!
how far away was that from crossville illinois
I SAW THE TORNADO ON THE NEWS I LIVE IN LOUISVILLE,KENTUCKY I AM SO CLOSE TO ILLINOIS
Where was that end scene with all the lighting shot I love it ❤️
How does the upper level wind shear rotate to become a rotating thunderstorm that spins around a vertical axis? Is it the convective updrafts that rotate everything vertical or is there a different explanation? I would think mesocyclones were more slanted if it was just updrafts doing it right?
You got it! You have horizontal wind shear gets stretched upward by the updraft. You end up having a cyclonic and anti-cyclonic rotation within the storm.
Pilot.93 That is wild! Thanks for the response
Great video!
Thanks!
Great video. You may want to invest in a tripod if you do this in the future!
Definitely!
i subbed !! great footage

Hi I’m with ABC News. Is this your video? Can we use it on all platforms and partners with credit to you?
Natalya Jaime Feel free to email for the rights. We can discuss price. 172pilot.93@gmail.com
Is that ball lightning we see 8:45 to 8:51?
I was with him, it was actually debris falling from the sky after the tornado near the lens
super cells are usually not moving. tornadoes move
9:55 is that a second moon ?

MCAdventurer
It has since been rated as a high-end EF3.
Were you guys filming this from
Canada?
Lol.
Guess you didn't catch a little humorous sarcasm.
Next time try getting at least 5 miles from it.

Practice keeping the camera still. Wind isn't an excuse.
This is legitimately amazing! Thank GOODNESS it's over😅
Thanks! It was a good day of chasing. I was sadden to hear the loss of life.
you get motion sickness trying to watch it,
Ever heard of a tri pod? Lol made me nauseous it mowed so much

You're welcome

You zoom in and out to much and hold that camera still...
I like the end of this video the best.
Thanks! It was a prefect way to end a perfect chase!
Looks like an EF3 or EF4. ..
valonsasukegirl101
Finalized rating at high-end EF3.
2:54 What app are you using?
RadarScope - Well worth the $10
Thanks a bunch!
Great Video btw
Dude is probably scared AF! His hands are shaking all throughout this video! 😂😡
She was just a baby ..keep chasing big PoppA is waiting for his picture to be taken
The noise and the shaking, make this video impossible to watch. It is making me sea sick.
Strap the camera to a chickens head to help stabilize the camera. I love tornados I think they are beautiful.
I suppose I should be PC and express sympathy that you have these dangerous phenomena in the US, but all we get in NZ is rain, rain, rain...
Love it
geez get a tripod bro
High end EF-3??? I take it it didn't impact a lot of structures.
Yeah. Just running through farm fields.
i would have said heck no imoutta here
wow
all are crazy
Yep!
Jeez. nearly hit my house.
Wow! I'm glad you are ok!
Could have been a great video. The shakes put me off.
Oh my god
That mf took my dad's house in 2017 it was the first house it hit the big one
Cool video! Check out my time lapse music videos of thunderstorms, moon rises, sun sets and snow melting at: " time lapse videos by donald granger" more will be coming in the near future.
shakey much?
yeah, I know. I was the driver for the day so I never had time to set up a tripod. Sorry! Best I could do
Pilot.93 I hope my comment didn't come off rude. early morning ajd eyes were adjusting. It was still very amazing footage! Thank you for putting it online so fast. I check tornado footage constantly as i am very fascinated by them. I consider tornados to be one of earths most amazing occurrences. They put who's really in charge into perspective for me. One of my dreams is to experience a tornado in person. I live in the san juan islands where we don't get them. If you ever had room to take on an extra person who could be a helping hand for a trip i could trade time in my beach front rental home in return.
TheEliminator - I'm completely deaf in my right ear and 95% deaf in the left. I pick up very few sounds. There isn't cc for youtube videos unless inputted by creator either. So no i did'nt hear the wind and thanks for asking. I couldn't tell he was standing either but i wouldn't know because i only see life from the perspective of my wheelchair. Any more questions?
Your sound sucks to much wind!
couldnt get closer? just joking..nice!
I wish! Thanks!
