I want to point out that I was the one moron that has inspired them to make RUclips videos. This whole video actually caused them to be more open about what they are doing. As a matter of fact, if you listen closely, he's thanking a certain Wytse Gerichhausen at the end of this video: ruclips.net/video/TFlcYUvNsAI/видео.html Well guess what? The moron is Wytse Gerichhausen ;-)
It's a bit of a paradox, that you need to "see" and "know" that it is real analog gear, before you can say you need it. Perhaps analog gear is the real snake oil.
Just found Mix Analog... Where have you been all my life!!?? I've been searching for a long time for EXACTLY this solution. Now I can master my own tracks with a REAL Burl B80!? Wow. For me, it's all about the AD clipping for that silly loud LUFS without the digital distortion... And this actually works... it sounds amazing. Not a 'rip off' at all! This will save me a lot of ££ as I mainly pay mastering engineers to add a couple of DB to my tracks by AD clipping... 10/10 from me. Only had to wait a few minutes for my first session... Definitely subscribing and might even flog my UAD gear now...
I wonder how viable it would be for them to have a live stream of the said equipment that you can view as you adjust parameters. Or even just post a video showing the link between the consumer and the gear
If this is real it's most definitely an amazing idea and tool . However like you had said, they need to make a video showing the studio and equipment and how it is connected and possibly do a live sessions at the studio showing someone logging in and using the system .
Hello Wytse. I think you missed the last step of the process: bouncing and downloading the track. What you've probably heard during the test is the internet compressed sound. From my own testing of their Fairchild I can say that it is AMAZING. The other gear they offer is incredible too. I really like your approach but you maybe skipped a crucial step here.
Did some investigation. They website says the following: - Fairchild 670 clone (PCB by Drip, original tubes, original tube power supply) compressor/limiter - 1176 clone (PCB by mnets)
The service looks to be actually streaming audio, my guess is someone dropped a lot of cash on that Fairchild DIY clone and wants to somehow get his money back on it.
I'm surprised why he didn't comment on the analog looking controls for a digital representation of the user interface which he always complains about. He just wants digital, which means only numbers. lol Anyway, if this works as advertised, this is the future of studio work, right there. But then again, as he wasn't blown away with the sound, this may also be a proof that plugins actually sound good enough for the world to move on from analog completely.
Just do a session now. it sound good but i need more time and don´t upload an already mastered track like i´ve done:-) but i use antelope audio plug ins and believe me their are top notch, can see the diference. i must to ry tape here, but in Antelope Audio the tape also is excelent, try them if you can, but it did not work for downloading the file i´ve try to process
That's true & I agree they should show us the real equipment but in saying that, it freakin sounds super analog man.... the saturation is freakin dope bro!
At first I thought maybe they just have Nebula Server running on multiple servers using libraries of different units...but when you cranked the input, Nebula would have given you digital farts! Going to try it out. I'm a huge fan of Nebula and this could be a much better opportunity if all goes well!
Its definitely analog! Tried it since the beta v1, try the pultec vs a software one. The sound is magical! I agree you are not sure because there aren't any proof, but I trust its sound, whatever it is! Lol
Scott Kane u I was thinking that the Pulteq is a giveaway if they were faking the Pulteq with their own plug in then thatd be a terrible bussiness choice because i havent heard a plugin sound like an actual pulteq it just gives a sound so much weight and harmonics
It is interesting. Something I hop you come back and review down the road when the Beta testing is done and everything is up and running. I just want to know how they would handle a huge load of customers. People just can't wait and wait to use this. When you need a compressor you need one now. You could not have a wait time interrupt a recording session or mixing session because you are waiting. I just don't think this business model would work very well.
When I was contacted by this company I had the same exact skepticism of if it was REALLY live ANALOG gear ...it is so much easier (and probable) that you are accessing a DIGITAL PLUGIN of a vintage piece of equipment...I like the idea, but don’t think the business model is practical...and if the company is using DIGITAL PLUGINS...it will be known soon enough and the company will not survive due to lack of honesty to their possible customer base
Does it sound better than the countless plugins which emulate these devices? If it doesn't then nothing is proven other than the fact that it is kind of unnecessary, no? I would love to hear an AB comparison of the same music processed with plugin versions. It would have to involve science and graphs and stuff though.
Only with video proof would I believe in a service like this... or similar... Cos if they are capable of building up a system like this, I'm confident to say that they can very easily let us have a live stream of their "digipods" working with their rack of equipment. And what happens when there are like 5 person in the world trying to access the same piece of hardware? If they have 1 piece of hardware. It should mean that it will only be available to 1 user at a time. So maybe we should team up and try this to use a same rack/equipment at the same time, if 20 of us can still use these gears, it's for sure just plug-ins in the cloud... SNAKE OIL!
This is so dope but not for a person just mixing or mastering as a career. Like me I will be doing my own stuff and stuff with people them mixing and mastering... so to have to book a time is no big deal. It wouldn't work though for a person needing it a lot of time. But a bed room producer needing to make their own product have that glimmer of super analogue heritage without the hassle of the money and effort to get time in a big studio with these things available. Has anyone done a video on if this is real? Could be a good stream for a travelling audio sector streamer. Although maybe this becomes to big and you then wait weeks before getting even a 30 minute slot lol
you would think they would post a video forsure! LOL,you think they would have a video, but you never know, maybe once they start charging for it they will show some proof!! What do you think of the Un-Fairchild? Are you considering one?
Check out their facebook profile, it seems they take it seriously and definetely for real. just imagine scaling up to to lets say 10 fairchild clones which are also pretty rare. but there are PCBs you can buy and for advanced electricians this should drop down the production cost if he gets 10 or 20 in series. this also might be the fact, you cant hear noise which might come from new components and better headroom. more fairchilds would expand the range of parallel sessions. this also could financially work, if they get it up to almost no maintanance. lets say 10 fairchilds cover 50 tracks a day, $ 9 per track = $ 450 per day = $ 13,500 in 30 days. just a scenario. After couple of months and scaling up I think this is going to be profitable. I also tried ARIA and I think this market will grow the next years even more with ideas like ARIA and mixanalog.
Great idea. I will test it in the next days. If it is real than its really great. If not... Its damn s...t. Well the price is interesting to. A service that you can't use always shouldn't be to expensive I think.
well their customer support is great however their website suffers immense latency issues whereby the playback is so bad that you cannot tweak anything or even listen. and that's kuz i possibly the fastest internet in the entire US. wasted time and sessions imho
Wyste: *thinks analog gear makes a huge difference* Also Wyste: *can’t tell the difference between the sound of analog gear vs. digital emulations of analog gear* The snake is now drinking its own oil.
unfortunately, the company is going to go bankrupt, in just a few months. why ? in order to grab clients, they can't be too greedy prices wise. but with too correct prices, they won't be making tons of money. their goal would be, i guess 'we make xx'000 bucks-> we get a second piece of hardware. then, a third one, a forth one... and so on and so on. the problem is, i hope they have some kind of patents for their idea/services. that away, if the company becomes very well known, all that could happen is them being aquired by a big company. without patents, they might have 3 pultecs and 3 farchields in use, while a big company... might have 20 la2a, 20 1176, 20 pultecs, 20 bricardi reverbs, 20 this, 20 that... or even maybe 40 or 50 of each, by buying everything available on ebay or 2nd hand markets. this could be the next big revolution : a guy could be paying 200 bucks for 1 hour, just to be able to utilize the best 100 analog pieces of hardware ever made. without the risk of fukin up an expensive tube/lamp, destroyung the power supply, or burning some connectors. this could be the missing link, if it works great. and after having access to the top 100 analog gear, why not going to the next level : giving remote access to 20 or 50 most known/used mixing consoles, that could be a all digital pure 384khz console... or a hard to find neve 96 channels... or a vintage ssl... or a ultra old rare pieces.... let's say, 3 hours with a 96 channels ssl =500 bucks. the guy just needs to hire a mixer/master eng. who knows thexe consoles, in 3hours and 500 bucks, we could easily remix/remaster 1 track. what, 750 bucks, to be able to use the top 100 best analog gear + a legendary mixing console, for 3hours, it is expensive ? really ? how much can cost a pro gigantic studio without even 10% of the hardware, for 2 hours ? 2000 ? 5000? 10'000+... this could be amazing, in my opinion.some good competition would force plugin/instruments makers to cut down their insane prices.
Hey, thanks for stating your concern! You are right about most of the dangers we are facing, but we have a quite few strategies to overcome them. We'll also be getting additional funding soon and a few deals with companies that produce gear. The only hint we can give you right now is "Bettermaker". What's more...our team is very dedicated and loyal. We believe, that luck favors the prepared. We are prepared! ;)
Go watch their RUclips channel you moron ...
I want to point out that I was the one moron that has inspired them to make RUclips videos. This whole video actually caused them to be more open about what they are doing. Well guess what? The moron is Wytse Gerichhausen ;-)
Take it easy, Wytse is just promoting critical thinking ;)
haha youtube is wild
This movie by them doesn’t prove anything. Nice idea though.
Ah, found another movie. Good enough for me :-) ruclips.net/video/99xs7o5IAqk/видео.html
It's a bit of a paradox, that you need to "see" and "know" that it is real analog gear, before you can say you need it. Perhaps analog gear is the real snake oil.
If you can't tell if it is the real thing or a rip-off doesn't that say something about analog gear v digital emulations?
If you can't tell the difference between this and analog gear, what's the point of the latter? Noise?
Playing with a physical interface is more fun i find
Thats what I am thinking.
Just Booked this for a 15 minute session this Sunday. Looking forward to trying ...Thanks for reviewing it!
Well, that was an honest video. I'd like to know what it sounded like? Were you impressed by the result?
Just found Mix Analog... Where have you been all my life!!?? I've been searching for a long time for EXACTLY this solution. Now I can master my own tracks with a REAL Burl B80!? Wow. It would be neat if you could see a streamed video of the rack while you're using it.
I wonder how viable it would be for them to have a live stream of the said equipment that you can view as you adjust parameters. Or even just post a video showing the link between the consumer and the gear
Is it possible to make a complete Song only with snake oil?
This is my favorite video of yours. What a weird concept. Very cool, but yeah ...mind blown.
If this is real it's most definitely an amazing idea and tool . However like you had said, they need to make a video showing the studio and equipment and how it is connected and possibly do a live sessions at the studio showing someone logging in and using the system .

We actually "dropped" a lot more cash making it remote controllable in real-time :D
I will try this service, it is very very interesting. Just hope that the price won’t won’t be to high when it is not in beta anymore.
Ya know I would love to have the plugin control on my hardware for recall and automation
I'm surprised why he didn't comment on the analog looking controls for a digital representation of the user interface which he always complains about. He just wants digital, which means only numbers. lol
Anyway, if this works as advertised, this is the future of studio work, right there.

You need to try ACCESS ANALOG. It's super cool too.
They should have a live streaming video of the equipment working.
they streaming on youtube. but to be true it's so boring

I've been using mix:analog - its awesome :-)
At first I thought maybe they just have Nebula Server running on multiple servers using libraries of different units...but when you cranked the input, Nebula would have given you digital farts! I've been in chat with mix:analog and they are super helpful guys.
They've actually visited my studio! ;-)
Very cool! ; ) I'm going to try the mastering a little later, and look forward to it.
Im so glad the snake oil series came back :D
Its definitely analog! Tried it since the beta v1, try the pultec vs a software one. The sound is magical! I agree you are not sure because there aren't any proof, but I trust its sound, whatever it is! Lol

Love your reviews! !!
IMO they uses a sort of Universal Audio on line... I'm too skeptycal about
It is interesting. Something I hop you come back and review down the road when the Beta testing is done and everything is up and running. imagine -say- 100 of us booking a mix today, Do they have 100 Fairchilds, Pultecs, etc? That's a lot f money

Check their channel mix:analog. They have few videos showing real gear and how it's being controlled remotely.
Only with video proof would I believe in a service like this... or similar... "Music will sound better if we use analog equipment "
LAUGHING MY FUCKING ASS OUT
They should just live stream the machine
Wow... Is this for real...
Always great watching you... Cheers
I was gonna ask if they had a room filled with thousands of fairchilds (fairchildren?) or something haha
Lol Im sure if you had clicked book it would have told you the next available opening, even if you didnt go through with the booking
Do you even gain stage, bro? :-P
Ok... I am new to the channel. Can someone please tell ,e what's this Darude sandstorm meme? Hahahaha In all seriousness, I can't understand haha

Analog bullshit.
