Pretty rude to just dump over 20K subscribers without a comment (unless we were supposed to glean it from this confusing video). I can understand getting frustrated with trolls, having to take all the time to make the videos and deal with YT. I can see abandoning YT due to other commitments. However, that doesn't justify this style of departure (which I have seen before). Doc
Disagree. You should take the fact that you can see someone else's work for free as a gesture of courtesy. If that someone ceases to make videos, accept the fact and move on. RUclipsr is not a profession, and people have their own lives.
I'm guessing that probably bigger and better things come about with Mikes purchasing of new equipment he has now and the time factor of dealing with YT videos is just not there now. Or there's a good possibility the man has passed on????
Mike I hope you didn’t get in some trouble with the authorities, we all know additional channels and modifications are frowned on. I love your taking the time to show us all how you work through these different problems. It’s quite amazing how much top end equipment you use and still have a time finding the gremlins in these great old radios. I only found your great videos just a few months ago, here in Boston we don’t get any airtime. (No one uses not even truckers on 19) it just faded away. I sold my one of a kind mint Browning markII 4 pcs it was tuned by Nichols just a short time before he passed, like you he would not turn up my system and made a face when I asked him to (peek the watts) but that radio was wonderful for years. Sorry I sold it and only $500 at that. Just last week I picked up a mark III and would of been honored to have it go thru your hands. If you did get put away wish I could fill your canteen. And hope nothing with the weapons happened. I guess just not knowing is the worst part. Hope to see you back on that great bench, what a great day that will be.

Congratulations Mike.

I then did an ARRL amateur radio call sign search for the town he lived in, I then found every single ham radio operator in his town and found Mike Spinoe on the list. I looked at the callsign and it said Silent Key (dead) Just to make sure his name was right, I did a reverse phone number search on his business number and it came back to the same name. He is in fact deceased. The FCC puts Silent Key on deceased call signs. How he died is unknown, some say he died from covid, some say he died in a motorcycle accident, but he is gone. There have been many cb radio repair youtube people that have died over the years..like The Cobra Man from the UK, he was a true legend and funny too. question. what can I use to lube my moving parts on my halli.s120 . can I use wd40 if I don't spray say use a small artists brush or a q-tip??. dials are a little stiff.
Depends on specifically which moving parts your speaking of, dial parts and such you can use something like Super Lube or Molykote (there are several types of Moly) for the old pots I use the Deoxit D5 fader specific type on older radios and new ones too, the mixture is just made to not destroy the pots, the older ones are more subject to regular Deoxit to actually do more harm than good long term. Again it's just chemically different and made for specific uses. You really have to look at what it is, if its simply mechanical ie gear drives etc, and then you have to take into consideration is the lube going to attract dust and debris, in other words if the gears are covered and dust isn't an issue that opens the door to more products being suitable, if it's exposed you may want to use something more friendly for that environment like a dry lube like graphite based and there are others. I have restored a few turntables and it really depends as to what the function is as to what I use on it. for spinning motors etc I use a product called Liberty Triple Elite, it's close to a sewing machine oil, again you just have to research what it is that needs cleaning/lube and find the best product for that intended use. I'm sorry to say there really is no one size fit's all for this kind of thing. WD-40 is one product I would not use however unless It was just to clean it then I would clean the residue off left by the WD-40 and follow up with denatured alcohol get it super clean and apply the appropriate lube for the intended use.
@@peternewman958 is correct depending on the age of the Pot D5 is the best bet for old pots 1940 and before, you can get by with regular Deoxit for newer pots, but I use D5 Deoxit on all pots and faders, it's a different formula that is made to be used on these especially the old ones. Regular Deoxit will destroy Pots made Prior to 1940 over a period of time. the physical composition is different than those made more recently is the reasoning I was given. WD 40 is not really even good as lube long term, its formulated to be a water displacement chemical not as a long term solution for lubrication. So Mr Peter is telling you correctly.
Knowing the cost, it's sorta like seeing a new car sitting on your workbench. I am now officially suffering from bench envy. Thanks a lot Mike. You lucky dog.
Well boys, Looks like Mike left CB (Children's Band) and moved up to HF Radio where the people didn't meet their GF or Wife at the Family Reunion and he truly can have a intellectual conversation with people that have a clue within the hobby. Can't say I blame him! Been there Mike! Best of luck with your new stress free life. Ignorance has plagued the gene pool. Run & don't look back!
I did the same thing years ago, but still hang around CB to harass all the dumbasses too lazy to take the test and watch them continue to throw thousands of dollars into equipment, towers, antennas and EQ's just to talk on one channel.
Everyone I know has 120 to 350 channels but I only know 2 people with the amateur license now. I’m surprised the FCC hasn’t done away with the amateur license like they did CB. It was costing the FCC $400k a year just to process the CB license in 86 or the year before they done away with them altogether.
That Mike is one SUPER NICE $40k piece of test gear. I do not even own a piece of R&S gear. One day I will. Bench looks great, thanks for a very interesting video.
Guess I'll add to the chorus, where are you Mike? People are honestly worried. You were going to do an electronic course and everything and then you just disappear? Strange.
Hi Mike. I love your videos, probably because you sound like you are from SW PA! I noticed there have not been anymore since your "April fools Day" Video. I hope you are OK and Covid Free! Maybe when you get a chance, you could let us know how you are doing?
sounds like my Ancient, HP CDMA Service monitor I got on Ebay for 1500.00 was a really good deal. Sure yours has some really nice winky blinky lights, but is it worth the 40K? short answer, no. Honestly how many times have you needed to use those whiz bang digital etc? For SINAD, DB, RF power, RF signal generator, and sweep function in case you ever have to tune up a set of cavities I dont think its worth the price of admission. Maybe your planning on getting into DMR or something like that and NEED to have the option, just in case?
Yes, I plan on using it for amateur radio digital modes. That's why I wanted it in the first place. I can now service digital radios and can also do automated alignments on radios that used programmed alignments like Motorola radios. Radio technology is changing and I need my equipment to be able to work on the more modern radios.
@@mikesradiorepair you have to repair a lot of radios to get the ROI. But if the demand requires it, more than just a few here and there then it wont hurt. So far I have never been able to get by without needing something like that. Even digital mode diagnosis. Not that its not nice, its hella nice.
There is another perspective on this. Just maybe Mike wants one of these to thank himself for his years of hard work and to reward himself for his passionate interest in this field of work/play. Not everything has to be driven by logic and it certainly need not make sense to you or anyone else.

I sent him an email a couple of years ago about getting a lafayette Telesat SSB-140 re-capped and alined but I never heard back from Mike. I did love watching his videos.
Love watching this channel hope he starts recording again..
Why do you love to watch this? Any Germans and Russians here or all Canadians and Americans, Mexico?
Merry Christmas Mike.
I been watching Mikes Videos and i love how he breaks things down. So i come to what other videos he has up and hasn't uploaded a video in over a year. Well not sure whats going on. I cant wait for more videos. Thanks Mike for what you have uploaded.
I hope and Pray you are all right Mike. TramDr here.
Hello Mike, love your videos, I hope you can come back. We need more people like you here to learn more about electronics. Hopefully you will be back.
Mike!!! We need you back to show us how to fix the garbage people put in radios
Really really really miss him.
Gonna have to sell all my rigs I was gonna send him to tepair as I trust no one else.
I recently found Mikes channel and I am saddened to learn he is no longer making videos.
Mike thank you for everything you have done to help, educate and entertain so many people. It is a blessing to have found your channel and I/we all hope to hear you again soon. I know it's alot of hard tedious work to make these videos but when the time is right and you enjoy making them again, know alot of good smart people want to see some new content. Thank you Mike.
@@bloguetronica I have no problem accepting. He doesn't owe me anything. It was still rude.
I'm guessing that probably bigger and better things come about with Mikes purchasing of new equipment he has now and the time factor of dealing with YT videos is just not there now. Or there's a good possibility the man has passed on????
@@bluegrassman3040 Can you substantiate that? A lot of stuff is said on the internet.
@@bluegrassman3040 If what you're saying is true.. RIP Mike.
Ein besonderes Dankeschön für diesen detaillierten Film und die jahrelangen Erläuterungen zur Hochfrequenztechnik !
Darn I missed you by about 4 years. Need my 2000 aligned and tuned up.
sure wish you was still around MIke, would love to send my superbase to you. thanks for the videos you left us
I miss Mike !
The man of instrumentation was so on the ball.
About a year ago, Mike actually DID comment on a duplexer tuning video here on RUclips.
I heard this guy died in a car accident
Can you prove that or are you BSing
He was heard over the airwaves on one of the ham bands not too long ago. There’s a video of him talking.
Hi Mike hope you are well , just popped up to say hi from Spain . I hope you comeback to do more videos. But what ever have a good life and thanks for your past videos.
Came looking for hints at his disappearance, I miss his vids.
Really was looking forward to more videos, what a loss for the people wanting to learn more about the hobby.
Don't bother...
Nothing to see in 23.......
I was watching the Channel King vid and ran across your good bye. 3 years ago, but you did some fine work Mike. Hope some day you decide to come back. Whatever you do, wish you peace and prosperity...73s.
That manual musta been much bigger than he anticipated its been 2 years and no more vids.
Underrated comment lol!
You scared the crap out of me you dog! I was thinking ”Mike’s hanging it up? NOOOOOOO!” I am glad your hanging in there and happy for you on getting the new equipment. It looks like it will make a lot of the tedious parts of radio repair much less grinding (believe me, I have been there, aligning banks of trunking repeaters or an endless stream of customer radios that ”don't talk right”) and gives you the ability to do much more. Congratulations Mike.
Mike, you are nice guy and a great technician. Once a technician, always a technician. God Bless you....
We need you Mike. Please come back to the show.
LOL, best April fool's ever .. the spectrum analyzer probably usurped control and told him he needs to focus on more important things
Found the channel after a long break from the hobby. Unfortunately it was also after Mike abandoned it. Would sure like to see more content!
🤷🏼♂️
That is a absolutely beautiful piece of test equipment.
CQ CQ MIKE!!!
WE NEED YOU!!!
Thank you for the content..
I just recently discovered your channel, and brother let me tell ya, there are NOT many good repair people left around, I’VE SEEN LOT OF HACK SHOPS HAVE SPRUNG UP….
I Just bought a new Present Lincoln II Plus off Amazon - and I need to peak and tune for my Freightliner -
I’m starting to seriously consider attempting to do some of the work myself…
ALSO I have “few” other radios sitting in my closet that needs to be repaired…
IF your still in business, PLEASE PLEASE drop a line..

Geez, seeing that machine reminded me of the one when i had my heart attack on Tuesday. In on Tuesday surgery on Thursday with an angioplasty and stent put in and out on Friday isn't technology amazing. That test set will really make things so much easier thanks for the update.
Mike mentioned Motorola, DMR!! + with new toy. I say was approached by some big comms companies for some serious $$$ sub contract work. Best endeavours and thanks for leaving this site open.
I can honestly say you got me at first. I was in such disbelief that i forgot to look at the comments at first lol mike mike hes our man if he cant teach us, RUclips is pointless
If he is in good health, he'll be back. Don't forget, he has a hundred and one serious hobbies. Probably busy as hell.
Enjoy your videos and wtf fixes lol ! Thank you!!
Every Sunday I check to see if you post anything you have a great channel hope all is good
I have a lot of R&S gear........its all just great, the downside is if anything goes wrong its a trip back to R&S for the gear, and a trip for me to the Bank Manager.........make sure you get insurance for it.....its worth a couple of grand a year just on the 180 if things turn bad for whatever reason.....trust me on that one.......
Congrats on the new equipment Mike. It's an awesome bit of kit 👍
I hope Mike is okay. Most people don't just abandon a channel with that many subscribers. I've seen other repair channels, but, Mike's was my favorite. I hope he is healthy and doing well. I miss you Mike!
Someone posted a reply to one of my comments on here from a while back, said he passed away in August of 2021. I tried looking up Obituaries in Pennsylvania, but couldn't find anything.
@@TheUniversalEyes WoW thats a shame....his channel will live on and he will not be forgotten. Of all the repair video channels I enjoyed his the most. He did work for me a few years ago, I live in Germany and Mike was the only CB tech who went to the trouble to help me... He was a nice man and we'll miss him

@@TheUniversalEyes same here and that person said his family could no post anythng here cause his family did not have his youtube information which made no sense as they could have posted the same as any of up but his ebay and face book account seem to be closed
@@AnnonPrivate Well if you look at the posts below, I looked up his business, then found the town. There are still many people who work on radios however...cb radios are pretty simple to fix.
Hey man hope you’re doing well. Thanks for all the CB radio knowledge.

Two emails sent and never a response. I moved on to another tech at this point. Mike seems to be retired (maybe?) or just overwhelmed with work and messages. Its unfortunate... good luck getting in touch with him. I gave up long ago. :/
Lester's gonna have a hernia when he sees this.
question. what can I use to lube my moving parts on my halli.s120 . can I use wd40 if I don't spray say use a small artists brush or a q-tip??. dials are a little stiff.
WD-40 is one product I would not use however unless It was just to clean it then I would clean the residue off left by the WD-40 and follow up with denatured alcohol get it super clean and apply the appropriate lube for the intended use.
eddiecarlcalhoun Do not use WD40 on pots at all not recommended at all.
Hey zeus christo! Rubbing alcohol....
WD-40 will attract dust, be careful.
Knowing the cost, it's sorta like seeing a new car sitting on your workbench. I am now officially suffering from bench envy. Thanks a lot Mike.
You lucky dog.
Or even 2 or 3 cars. Now I feel ripped off. It didn't even come with wheels so I can drive it. :-)
Fear not. There's probably an accessory package for that, too. :-)
Where is Mike? Missing your videos man!
I have never been so happy for a April fools joke. Lol Bring on the new vids!
Apparently it wasn't a joke? He's been off RUclips 6 months now.
Where are you mike we miss you mate :)
Love your channel!!! Hope your doing ok.
Guess I'll add to the chorus, where are you Mike? People are honestly worried. You were going to do an electronic course and everything and then you just disappear? Strange.
Hope mike is still doing his thang .
He is and still very active in radio!
If you're still with us, enjoy the toes in the sand and a cocktail in the hand. I am sure I speak for everyone
THANK YOU
Mike missing you man!
Hi Mike. I love your videos, probably because you sound like you are from SW PA! I noticed there have not been anymore since your "April fools Day" Video. I hope you are OK and Covid Free! Maybe when you get a chance, you could let us know how you are doing?
He lives in Fairfield PA, which is about 4 miles from my house.
I check in occasionally, but nothing new.....I think he is gone );
sounds like my Ancient, HP CDMA Service monitor I got on Ebay for 1500.00 was a really good deal.
Why do most commenters assume they know best?
