This video deserves more views. Well done sir. I loved your detailed explanations. I watched this cold-turkey and was traumatized for months. Easily the best anime.
10/10
When I watched Berserk 97 I was a naive teenager who thought the worst thing man could do is murder. Sacrificing your comrades and friends in a brutal monster ritual, then raping your loyal friend before his love, who btw just recued you - for his shallow "dream" of becoming a king... We dont even know what he would do after achieving his dream, its so shallow and worthless. It changed me in some ways- - no other drawn work of fiction had a bigger impact on me since. RIP Miura
Literally the worst betrayal in history imo.
I recently watched berserk and I’m completely obsessed now. I watched it completely ignorant and unsuspecting. I’ve now become a huge fan, but I can’t stop ruminating over Guts, the eclipse, and what this story means to me. This has altered my consciousness.
If you havent read it, do it, truly amazing manga
Watching / reading berserk with no spoilers is a life altering experience
I keep trying to understand what caused it all but there are so many different events that built up. What a tragic turn it made me disgusted and angry when I watched the Eclipse.
Continue with the manga
I wanted to watch this so bad, but i stopped myself because i haven't read vol 1-3 of the manga that has been sitting on my shelf. Or watched the 1997 anime adaptition, which happens to be my birth year. I've been waiting for an opportunity when my life wasn't so busy that I could fully enjoy this series. Maybe one day I'll come back here.
You definitely won’t regret it!
Even if you only watch one day every now and again it's definitely worth it. This story helped me get better and I wish I found it sooner
@cosmicvoid239 genuinely this. I found it took me two or three tries to actually get into the series, because the first and second episode are very different from one another but if you stick with it, before you know it you’ll be completely invested
@@ghost-pulse I've known about the story for so long but I just kept putting it off until one day I had nothing better to do and it's been in my top 2 and arguably my favorite story ever lmao
I held off for the longest time, for similar reasons. I'm happy to say I've now read as far as the eclipse, and plan to keep chipping away at the story fo years to come.
Great video. I’ve watched numerous videos from a variety of content creators related to Berserk, and I really like your interpretation and breakdown of the events, which pointed out some things I hadn't put together myself.
Afterward, I went to watch your Neon Genesis video, which helped me make more sense of the human instrumentality concept, which always seemed convoluted and confusing.
You have a lot of potential in creating anime video essays. Your ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable and engaging manner is your differentiating factor. If you can capitalize on that and continue to refine it I think you’ll be able to create something unique and very special.
This is a really nice comment thank you for taking the time! I’m glad you’ve gained something from watching my videos, hopefully you’ll get value from the future content I’ll be putting out!
Great explanation for one of the greatest anime of all time.
Wtf why doesn’t this have more likes, Brilliantly told.
I appreciate that thank you!
The first time watching I was stoned out my mind depressed forgot what I really wanted in life had health problems and cut myself off from the world then i randomly turned this on not knowing anything about it and it literally changed my life
It’s awesome that berserk had that effect on you, I can see how being in the right situation would allow it to really change how you look at things
This is such a good video. That intro had me sitting here thinking….. what is the cost of a dream?
The very first introduction to anime was berserk and i absolutely loved the characters and story that was being told. I remember how shocked and depressed i was watching all the happiness and characters i loved be massacered in what felt like an instant. I couldn't help but look into berserk more because of this series and fell in love all over again after watching the movie edition and reading the manga. This series was the reason why i got into anime and opened my mind to many questions in life growing up
A few weeks ago, my younger brother sent me a message saying, "You would like Berserk." Completely blind, and in perhaps the darkest moment of my life from a very recent betrayal, I started the 1997 series.
I'm not a big anime fan. However, the mood, artistic style, and maturity of the series kept me captivated. I was naive that such a tragedy was ever drawn, authored, and animated. Somehow, the visceral betrayal from this series has helped better than therapy for my own IRL betrayal. I think it is because it cuts so deep, and the mind only has so many resources.
Anyhow, you have created a great synopsis and I appreciate how much reverence you crafted this reflective content with. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this, I’m glad Berserk had a positive effect on you and helped in your time of need
There's a meme that goes along the lines being at the therapist and ur card diclines and u now gotta watch berserk golden age arc ending
*leaving therapist’s office* *card declines* *therapist pulls an eclipse night griffith to casco on you*
Berserk found me, at what was at the time, but unbeknownst to me, one of the lowest points of my life just getting started.
My knee buckled on Fri13. On Oct14 there was an eclipse. Night came during the day suddenly. The algorithm suggested Berserk 1997. I went in blind. Oof.
I don’t talk about Berserk. If someone were to ask sure. I found a RUclipsr who read berserk manga and caught up that way. I know the deal. It’s truly adult stuff.
In some ways these days and even ever since I was young and saw the raw scans of DragonBall or the unedited ending to the Radditz fight.
Goku died so brutally but then next second was right as rain in the after life waiting to comeback. It dawned on me the other day like why weren’t Vegeta and Nappa MORE shocked when the guy who died fighting Radditz showed up? Even Vegeta while Goku was fighting Nappa never seems to make note or mention he was dead.
Also, when people died in original DragonBall they kept the bodies in pods so they didn’t decay. In Z, Goku had his corpse transported healed and given back to him? With a halo? To a long snake road?
At least with Berserk the unbelievable strength of having Guts on your side is immeasurable . I bet Griffith was like, I saved you from Zodd. Took his whole arm off while you scratched him and he snuck me back. That’s the only reason I lost to you. I’m still healing from having to save you you owe me even if I don’t own you. Back me up. He walked. From those who were soaked in death together. Just to come back and be like, oh, should have stayed. Can’t even choke on your own tongue.
Vid started off strong I’m just already not in a good place to go over this stuff again. Thought it would help but it’s just depressing thinking about. Wishing your channel the best!
I get it, Berserk is a tough watch!
Griffith did ALMOST nothing wrong.
Just the one tiny little thing...
I remember skimming past the cover of issue 38 and thinking "who is this mean looking old guy?" A year later, after seeing a GIF of Griffith, which i thought he was a girl then 😂 I came back to read it and NOTHING prepared me for that first page and the literal chaos that followed. I was more of a romance/slice of life anime fan, so Berserk was entirely new to me. I had to stop reading most times because of how emotional I became for the characters, Casca especially. The 2013 movies are still my favorite to watch to this day ❤
Great video!
Thank you!
griffith: guts its a prank, your being recorded
guts: AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!
😂
Miura: Men have no control over their own fate
Literally everyone: Griffith is evil
He definitely did something wrong right
My guts tell me that Griffith is a pretty bad guy.
Its actually disturbing this isnt an anime already
Well the ending is episode 1 where we’re introduced to a matured and total badass guts seeking out and fighting deamons. If I remember correctly as I saw this anime when it was released. Also was very disapointed by the later movie adaptations and mildly disapointed by the even later reimagining of the anime.
Yes I'd have loved for a more fleshed out full series of the first arc in the style of episode one of the 1997 series. Such a shame that the studio ended things where it did, but I prefer it this way than to go the way of other beloved series that stay past their welcome. Leave them wanting more, don't leave them looking for the door.
Alot of anime fans self.inseert at.some point in time. I dont think alot of people do this with Guts because it would hurt to much emotionally and physically it would suck to wake up one day and your Guts before the Eclipse because we that's one hell of a rough road.
I think that a lot of people who don’t really understand berserk self insert as Guts. You’ve got the “it’s literally me” stereotype about him. People who understand the story would never want to be him despite loving him as a character
I wish to be a god
I recently watched this anime, the music was beautiful but it was overall mid. RUclips kept recommending it and I was underwhelmed. Surprised it has the fandom it does
Read the manga, the quality is night and day
And they he did nothing wrong
Griffith sure is a character!
I dunno man he did at least one thing wrong.
At minimum
Remember, Griffith did nothing wrong, Guts deserved it and Casca enjoyed
This is a very upsetting comment
