- Initial D Fourth Stage Opening 1 - Dogfight
Remastered in 1440p using ESRGAN [AI Machine Learning], and to 60FPS using SVP [frame interpolation technique]
ESRGAN is an AI Neural Network software that is capable of upscaling and reconstructing low-resolution images, while retaining most of their elements and details intact.
SVP uses the same frame interpolation technique as available in high-end TVs and projectors (see "TrimensionDNM", "Motion Plus", "Motionflow" and others). It increases the frame rate by generating intermediate frames between existing ones in order to produce very smooth, fluid and clear motion.
I took the original video file from the RG Genshiken RIP, and used ESRGAN with the Manga109 training model to upscale the video 4 times its original resolution.
Then I used SVP with high masking to upscale the video to 3 times its original framerate.
Original resolution: 720x400
ESRGAN Upscale: 2560x1440
Original framerate: 27.5FPS
SVP interpolation: 60FPS

アニメ映像とCGとの中間くらいのCGになった代わりに車の動きがしなやかになったり、サスのアップシーンが出てサスの動きを再現したりしてたのが衝撃的だったな…

I remember being absolutely captivated by the first two stages of Initial D in high school and then we had the movie but no more of the anime for a few years so I had kinda given up on getting more of the series animated. But then the fourth stage came out and I remember eagerly downloading the fansubs (over dialup, mind you so it took hours) and hearing this opening made so incredibly hyped and excited. Favorite opening, hands down.

it is possible, but that would not be under youtube terms "fair use", as i am not using a portion of the copyrighted material, but the entirety of it.
also, machine learning is intensive in terms of computational power, to make 1 minute of footage as seen here, it took me 70 hours of render time.
Oof that's a long time..but for 4k initial d it's tempting

This show is beautiful. It gets real in depth with racing technique and understanding the automobile. Not to mention THE golden era for Japanese sports cars. Unique and interesting yet simple story. If you've made it this far let me know what car is your favorite from the series. Mine is Shingo's FR killer Civic EG6. This show inspired me to own a project car from this era, and now I've got a civic Ek hatch with a b18 swap :)
