I think the poop inspection is more of a bonus to the Dutch design. The design is more for water preservation as it needs less water to flush. And no splash. 😊
Some Dutch toilets have a shelf in the back of the bowl, also known as an inspection shelf or poop shelf, that allows people to examine their stool before flushing. This design can be practical because stool samples can help detect health issues and diseases. The shelf may also have other purposes, such as: Vermicide inspection In the late 1800s and early 1900s, when intestinal worms were common, people could use the shelf to inspect their feces for worms Reducing splashing The shelf can hold excrement out of the water until the flush, which can reduce the risk of splashing
Funniest part I think most people don't know is we all at this point call it a Dutch toilet but actually an Englishman developed it! It didn't take off in the UK, apparently we prefer the splash on our tooshies but they became popular in the Netherlands ages ago. Some people say they're only common in old buildings but I live in a new build here and I have the toilet shelf. Takes a little getting used to, anybody squeamish would hate it, but it is nice for my toosh to stay dry!

I think the poop inspection is more of a bonus to the Dutch design. The design is more for water preservation as it needs less water to flush. And no splash. 😊
When his jaw dropped 🤣🤣🤣
As someone who has to for chronic health conditions, a shelf is a MUST for me! How do I get one in the USA?
I’ve been to the Netherlands twice & never encountered the poop shelf thank God 😂
My dutch gramps will die on the hill for his, he always safe it was super helpful when he lived there!! Swore by it religiously.
Me with a digestive chronic illness: useful.
….thats actually really good if you know what to look for. It’s as practical as checking your body for weird lumps (cause cancer)
WHAT???!!!! I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT EVERYTHING ON HERE
I did a 6 week blood and colon cleanse once and a poop shelf would've came in handy. The things that came out of my body needed inspection!
Some Dutch toilets have a shelf in the back of the bowl, also known as an inspection shelf or poop shelf, that allows people to examine their stool before flushing. This design can be practical because stool samples can help detect health issues and diseases. The shelf may also have other purposes, such as:
Vermicide inspection
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, when intestinal worms were common, people could use the shelf to inspect their feces for worms
Reducing splashing
The shelf can hold excrement out of the water until the flush, which can reduce the risk of splashing
I get the idea. I have seen and used some of these while travelling but for me it’s too close. And it’s harder to clean.
I was so confused because I thought that there was just a shelf in the room and was genuinely thinking why on earth is that weird until I realised you weren't on about the whole room💀
God, “it’s” over there too😳?? We have NO WHERE to escape the insanity😳😳
As a nurse, I can say that this is actually a great idea!! Love it
