Saw it recently, best new musical ever. This deserves a BIG budget production. The current show is excellent though but suffers from some production issues.
Sounds absolutely amazing, I'm too far from the UK this year, but I so hope I can go and see it in the future. She might already be my fav "I" beside Wietske van Tongeren!
Having seen Rebecca in Vienna last year I realise it could not be anything like the production we saw there. However it is wonderful chance to see the most fabulous musical full of beautiful songs & haunting melody's, This show was in rehearsal on Broadway until the plug was pulled because of a crooked backer. It has played all over Europe & Japan for many years
Because they also translated it too literally/directly, almost matching it per word from the original German in some phrases. It lost a lot of the more poetic feel. Especially in the refrain and Max's verses. I wish they took more liberty in giving it new depth or poetry in English to perfectly match the beautiful music.
To be fair, it’s out of context of the actual show here and they were still pretty early into the rehearsal process when they recorded this. It’ll definitely be different when staged 😊
I have no issues with the performers, who I thought did a great job with the atrociously generic material. This is the classic stuff that American musical theatre schools turn out by the yard.
@@missmarple2007 They don’t sound like they’re in love here because at this point in the story, they aren’t supposed BE in love. Especially not Maxim. In this song, they’re supposed to be distant from one another. The show itself stages the number so that they’re not even together during this song. They’re in completely separate rooms. They’re supposed to be longing for each other, wanting the distance to close between them, but not in love. If there is a love duet between Ich and Maxim in this show, it’s this song’s reprise near the end of Act 2 “Jenseits der Nacht” (“Beyond The Night”). That’s the song where they’re supposed to be in love, not this one.
I really hope the musical returns to the West End! I watched it in November and it was AMAZING!
Same here .lv book and film thought charring cross did brill job but lets have big scale production now please in west end.
Absolutely enchanting production and couldn't be a better night out

Why cant these adaptations just cast Ramin Karimloo as Maxim already he'd be perfect pissed he has never even been considered.
Undecided.. like it's a bit too glowy faced and joyful, the lyrics seem to ask it to be more emploring and desperate, which it's not

It's generic cheap Lloyd Webber, not Verdi.

"I close my eyes, Rebecca's all I see" would give you the rhyme.
It also gives you a lousy lyric.
Worse than the original? How?
I close my eyes and only see Rebecca
But it doesn’t fit the syllable count.
Nonsense.
There is *nothing* in this song that's specific to the book. Apart from her name. It's totally bland and generic. So disappointing.
Humourless love songs seldom work.
They don't even sound like they're in love! It sounds like the writers did musical theatre degrees, which produce massively one-size-fits-all song.
The truth is ive forgotten whk i am is in book .uvd made me forget past .

You think she's not in love with him? Why is that?
