Nah it is noticeable, but I prefer the Ally X anyways in general. Honestly Windows 11 is why I bought it. Can it be improved for handhelds ? Definitely
Yeah, depends on the game. Older games actually do look the same, like just cause and the older resident evil titles, with Ally on vivid it looks pretty much the same in comic-style games like wolf among us and borderlands too. Just real dark games look insane good on Deck OLED, like Alien, newer RE titles, main menu of LA Noire lol, but game looks pretty much the same. HDR is great too, but most titles that support HDR don't really run well on deck, so i wont ever do that. I've got the ally too, returned deck

Hey 128KB team, your tech insights are always super helpful! With 2024 bringing us so many cool handheld options, I’m torn between the Steam Deck OLED and the regular ASUS ROG Ally. For your next video, it’d be awesome if you could do a deep dive comparison to see which one of both is more worthy in 2024. Your breakdowns always make these tough choices easier. Looking forward to your thoughts!
If I really want OLED, I connect my viture pro glasses. Or play on my gaming laptop (MSI GE67 hx). Or connect to my LG G3. The screen on the Ally X is not as colorful and deep as an OLED, but I still absolutely love it. And VRR is really important for a handheld because stutters are annoying. I absolutely love the Ally X. I agree my relationship with gaming has changed.
OLED definitely produces better colors and better overall picture quality BUT, between that and a VRR capable LCD display, I'll pick VRR capable LCD display EVERY SINGLE TIME 😊
The ROG ALLY X is miles ahead of the steam deck oled… I own both… I didn’t think it would be much a difference, but running my games on max settings on ROG is amazing… Steam deck can’t keep up sadly….
Can you show us if this can truely replace a console and yet be portable, besides the obvious can it connect two controllers for two player games and what’s the experience like with the likes of a portable monitor
Yes, you can connect two controllers via Bluetooth. If a game thinks that the ROG Ally is one of the controllers itself, you can disable the Ally’s controller on the quick toggle of command center “Embedded Controller”.
You guys should know that using a 1080p screen at 720p has a poorer image quality than 720p on a native 720p screen. So dropping the Ally x resolution to 720p is not what the Steam Deck would look like.
