Molly and Nigel, It is helpful how you brought additional attention to "observation tools": (a) to recognise and take note of "key words/phrases"; (b) to "mark the text"; and (c) to "make lists". Also helpful is the training to "use words straight from the text" when we respond to a question and make lists. Thank you from North Yorkshire! :)

Hi Molly and Nigel - can you please explain this to me: 2King 22: 4 and 9. regarding the MONEY. In the verse 4. The King J. said to Shaphan that he should go to Hilkiah high priest, that he may count the money that BROUGHT IN the house of the Lord. BUT in the 9. Shaphan the scribe said to the King J. that the money is emptied out that was FOUND IN the HOUSE..? WHO'S HOUSE AND WHICH HOUSE ARE WE TALKING ABOUT ? because 4. 9 do not make any sense to me to understand.... PERHAPS you can help me out, thanks...🤔🤔🤔 WAS THE MONEY BROUGHT IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD ? OR FOUND IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD... ? I'M NOT SURE REALLY IF I HAVE UNDERSTAND THE CONTEXTS OF THE 4. AND THE 9. 🤔🤔🤔🥴🥴🥴

Hi @traveller EU thank you for your comment and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. It's a great question! The context of v9 determines that 'the house' is 'the house of the LORD' (see v3,4,5,6,8).
The word 'found' in v22:8, 9, 13 is the same Hebrew word and again the context helps us interpret the meaning. We know that in 22:3 Josiah is now 26 years old (his 18th year of reign) and that he has been purging Judah and Jerusalem of idols since being aged 20. (See 2 Chronicles 34 and also Jeremiah 1:2 tells us that he started prophesying in Josiah's 13th year which would make Josiah 21 at that time).
We know that Josiah wanted the money in the house of the LORD counting for the repairs to it (v4-5) and it would appear the word 'found' in v9 means simply what he "found" had been collected in the house of the LORD by the doorkeepers from the people who visited the house of the LORD. This is in contrast to the word 'found' in v8 and v13 which means to "come upon, light upon, find, often unexpectedly" which is reference to the book of the Law. The book of the Law had been 'lost' in the house of the LORD - it hadn't been read, copied or used to teach the people. They literally unexpectedly found it as they were rebuilding the temple after all the idolatry.
