Its old traditional bengali lion in kangsanarayani style of durga idol actually its called godha. Before calcutta zoo 1885 bengali artists didn't know how lion looks. Thus they amalgamated horse (used by kings to represent lion animal king) with godha or godhika bengal monitor lizard (which is vahan of goddess chandi in folklores and mangalkabya) its also called godha, thus its looks like dragon kind of horse. After that realistic lions appear in bengals art. Same with northern india if u go punjab himachal and see old mideval era pahari kangra miniature paintings u will find durga on tiger as those artists didnt know how lions look. Asiatic lions are restricted in gujrat gir area otherwise india is land of tigers There are 2 ways of traditional idol style of durga in bengal 1 kangsanarayani( from feudal lord kangsanarayan) 2. Bishnupuri (from kings of bishnupur)
