Fantastic! Thank you for making all those videos. I've started watching with my favourite army (25 years and counting), but forgot to express my gratitude. I honestly believe that this army list is the most 'wood elvish' in the entire history of this faction - such a good blend of old concepts and things from models to AoS. A lot of classic stuff made a come back which is brilliant. I know that picking units and options will be a torture - because I want ALL of them, LOL. I have no idea how useful they will be in the game, but I don't care. Take care!
Thanks for the video - I'm really happy to see a number of changes such as Bodkins being opened up to more units and usable with the bow of loren. I feel like there will be some really interesting character/unit builds and more variations that are competitive. Will hopefully lead to more army variation than how wood elves ended up at the end of 8th Ed. I'll need to get rebasing the 7000pts of wood elves in the attic.
Yeah!!! Thank you so much!!! Especially because Games Workshop has once again managed to print too few books for the sales launch and they are all sold out immediately. That's a real shame.
Sisters of the thorn seem absolutely fantastic as a special choice Between getting to pick your spell and being able to march and shoot ap1 poisoned javelins…seems like the ultimate toolbox unit Wind Blast spam seems like the ultimate friendship ruiner if I’m honest
This is the army I really want to start with, but from what I understand there are basically no official minis for it at this point? Any idea when they might start releasing those?
No not specifically. But with their army book release in 6th, Elf lrods and heroes could choose a Kindred, which allowed you to make it into a wardancer character. You also had choices like waywatcher and eternal guard for example.
@MalkavDraconic indeed the female one with the long spear pointing sideways. They had all those character types eventually. I really liked the "alter" kindred model with the helm of the hunt.
Alarielle isn't the Lady of the Lake 😕 Even if that bit of End Times crappiness has to be acknowledged, it's a different Elven god (not to mention the Wood Elf one is Ariel...).
But I think considering bow of Loren states you don't get a penalty for multiple shots, that shooting with the shards is also a -1 penalty. You'll be hitting on 5s and 4s at long an short range. That's about 30 to 50 hits that still need to wound (mostly 4 and higher). You'll end up with 15 to 25 wounds against T3.
I think putting the 8th edition Treeman on a 50x75mm base will be hard. If I remember correctly they came with a way bigger base, those things are huge. I have the sneaking suspicion that those models will stay for AoS and we'll be getting the old Treeman from 6th edition.
The new treemen were originally released during WFB 8th edition, and they were delivered with the same bases. Numerous people have them on those bases, it was the model used at that time. So I don't really see the base problem, or why would GW released the old one, since the most recent one was made for WFB and not AoS at first.
In my opinion, the newer treemen models look like aliens from Planet X, and the older treemen look like trees, especially if extra branches and flock (from model railroad trees) is added to their stumpy metal branches.
Exactly. Never like the new sylvaneth hybrid elf look. The treeman released after the 6th edition book was just amazing. The 5th edition treeman with the arm up high just has a special place in my heart. 2nd warhammer model I ever bought.
Overrall I think Wood Elves might have gone shafted in the Old World. Loosing asf while also going down to initiative 4 all around, while losing mounted armor bonus so now we really got no armor. In an edition where armor seems king we got none, but we also don't have armywide shooting bonuses anymore just 2 inches extra range, even the armor piercing in our bows isn't any different than any other longbow. Forest spirits remained their whimpy str version, when now they could have been exeptimented having higher str again but lack of ap. I got to get my hands on to the book myself cause just seeing it from cellphones tiny screen and hearing someone who hasn't read the previous books wonder about it, is not enough. I like that warhawk is yet again a mount option and dragon/eagle seems stronger as a mount now. Also yei for javelins in wardancers! Always thought it cooler and more feral if Wood elves used javelins instead of bows and had like special javelins with range 12 and something.
@@cmxpiipl even bretonnian knights are only 3+ save i believe. Everything is down to 1 attack but some picked chaos units. The thing they got rid of shooting fest is just nice. ASF was very bad rule that was countering GW bullshit of kind does not matter how many models you killed these 40 halberdiers will all fight back....basically they patched one bad rule with another shitty rule i am glad both are gone. Wood elves will now have to rely more on regular infantry - eternal guard is rather above avarage infantry in terms of stats.
@@cmxpiipl yeah wood elfs seem ti have been archetypically hit the hardest 🫤 the lack of ap1 on bows is probably the worst part, magic arrows are ok but all got downgraded, and volley fire only allowing half of the second rank to shoot is extremely annoying… On the plus side flammable isn’t as big of an issue anymore but the tree units look kinda meh if I’m being honest, tree kin should have been ap1 armorbane 1 instead of swingy armorbane 2 Although I do see sisters of the thorn being one of the most allied units since they are an incredible fast cavalry toolbox unit with the potential to really abuse powerful magic missiles like windblast

These videos just seem to be released just to have a video exist at launch. They are not helpful for new players at all and just glaze over everything. What was the point?
He was explicit, at least in other videos: to give an idea of base size and force composition to help people (returning players especially) plan their armies.
Fantastic!

the GMG content for this release has been phenomenal, I've seen so many people directing others here from FB etc.
Can`t wait for this army to release. Tried to play them in Sigmar (cities+Sylvaneth) before GW deleted them, couldn`t be happier now.

We can probably get a digital version
I have been waiting for this for more then 10 years
Great to see my Wood Elf army " resurrected" since AoS eliminated them from The Cities of Sigmar lists.
Half of my dark elfs turned green :P dreamed wood elfes always got cheap dark elfs army in 8 th and wood elfs were in bad spot
yooo, greateagle mount is +1 W and T. And we can place forrests again! And summon forrest is back as well!
Thank you for this, can't wait to dust off my wood elf dragon and return it to the table.

wind blast is what curse f anraheir wishes it was tbh, it's going to be so lovely to shove units around :D
Wild wood rangers were a new unit in 8th ed. The Shadowdancer is new. My woodies are pleased with this
Shadowdancer is also in 8th.
Its called War Dancer Hero in previous edition ;)
Man, howd I miss that. Im gonna blame it on getting older lol@@bigpasiak
I don't usually go in for elves but wood elves are the exception
Enjoying these summaries
glad to see that my wood elves will ride again in a new edition of Warhammer fantasy. now I have to put them all back on squares though... x_x
The units that seem like they should have Elven Reflexes but don't all have Strike First, so that all checks out.
Dryads on 30!? God damn it! I already started basing them on 25s.
This is the army I really want to start with, but from what I understand there are basically no official minis for it at this point? Any idea when they might start releasing those?
If you check the Sylvaneth models range for AoS, you can still find Treeman, Branchwraith, Dryad and solid count-as Treekin
I'm kind of sad. No Orion, Ariel, or Sisters of Twilight? What happened to the named characters?
Probably be in the army book
The Arcane Journal will cover them.
great stuff ash
Oh excellent I have a heresy Demon army using Sylvaneth so a Tree spirit list would be of interest t ome for that army.
Where we can find the PDFs?❤
the Og treekin where awesome. The current kurnoth..those are disturbing. Really don't like the humanhybrid esthetic they now have in AOS.
You can almost have an army of treemen.
Those bodkin arrows are disgusting
You had the best intro music on RUclips, WTF did you change it?!?
What does Armoured Hide do?
Shadow Dancers are both new and old. They were a thing in 6th?

the Lady of the Lake was Lileath wasn't it? Elven goddess of Prophecy.
@seanMmaguire1 Think so. I don't want to put myself through the trauma of checking though.
Alarielle is from the High elves. Ariel was from the wood elves . Also not a full god, more an avatar of Isha, the godees of nature.
@@eglagrodion ....yes?
So i can't play a pure Forest Spirit Army since i NEED to take one unit of Glaive Guards?
It'll probably be an army of renown, my guess is spirits focused and the wild hunt
Does forest spirit offer a ward save?
Nope, just regen 6+.
A real downgrade from the olden days
Don't suppose you're allowed to shed light on the "Loner" special rule? I assume it just means she can't join units unless they also have Loner
Correcto and vice versa
What does armored hide do?
Extra armor save, based on what value it describes. And I think scaly skin keyword is always a hard 5+.

3/4
Shame if someone wanted to play this without access to the single mandatory unit of glade guard, Odd choice
Got a feeling they will be recast soon. Or else they'd be shooting them selves in the foot big time
