    Directly from the project leader of the S2000, Shigeru Uehara, when asked why there wasn't a Type R version, he said the S2000 was essentially already a Type R because there was very little room left for improvement as it was already engineer at a very high level from the start. Unlike the other "base" Hondas.

    • @deltapromasterlauj4848

    • @mikemata4244
      @mikemata4244 Год назад +76

      @@deltapromasterlauj4848 actually, at the time (1995), no there wasn't.
      The idea behind the s2000 was a roadster that performed like a race car that "everyone" can afford. The s2000 was packed to the teeth when it eventually hit the market in 1999. It was already producing more HP per liter then any other production car which I think Porsche finally ended up beating like years down the line.
      Now as you said, there's always room for improvement. I think they felt the Americans did not like having to rev the car so high to reach those HP levels. With the introduction of the AP2 revision, they lowered the rev output in favor for a slight boost in mid range power.
      The car was as stated above, already on performance levels of a type R. I guess one could say the CR model would have been that type R but the only purpose behind it was to create something even more light weight to bridge the other side of the s2000 vision. A affordable out of the box track car

    I remember watching a best motoring video where the chief engineer of the s2k who also worked on the nsx r and integra and civic type R's said that the s2k was built to type r spec, which is why they came with red valve covers, the s2k was basically a type r from stock because they put so much into designing and building it, and because it was being released for the year 2000 and a heritage car etc. They went all out on it

    • @DOXI305
      @DOXI305 Год назад +1

      They probably didn't push the chassis to the limit like they did with the engine. It's not stich welded like the Type Rs, but then again the Type Rs were based on normal cars. They needed the extra work on the chassis to perform at that level. Either way, they missed an opportunity...there's even an NSX-R. Maybe they should've named the CR Type R instead. Would be interesting to know from Honda why there wasn't a S2000 R/Type-R

But that's just me, the execution here is awesome and they did a great job.

  • @VirtualGuth

    I love that Evasive recognizes the best way to enjoy a S2000 is with no roof over your head. These guys definitely get a big thumbs up for execution as this car does look like it could have been a factory offering for the most part. I've always imagined that Honda not offering a Type R version of the S2000 had something to do with the fact that in their base form, the S series cars were the only purpose-built sports cars Honda produced. Even the NSX required certain allowances for comfort/luxury as an upscale GT/supercar.

It's like an OEM + version of that car if Honda ever made one. Absolutely love it and great job to you guys for achieving such a great build. The only thing you might want to do is look into the ID4motion digital cluster. They make a fully digital dash for the S2K. and like you said, the true experience of this car is with the top down like a real roadster, having that huge rev band layout on the dash but with modern supporting information and customisability, that id4motion dash will tick all the boxes. not to mention its full size so looks even more OEM and not aftermarket at all. This really gives me the same vibe as full/complete tune cars. As opposed to demo cars, which would be used to test prototype parts and for display.
    When tuning shops would just strip a car down and build it up using their own prowess. Stuff like the NISMO 400R and the HKS Zero R and the legendary RUF CTR Yellowbird.
    Of course, some shops still continue with that kind of stuff today (like the aforementioned RUF). I'm not saying shops don't still do it, I'm just saying it's uncommon.

So glad you guys did it - I mean I imagine it will be close or even over 180k $ so it’s ain’t gonna be cheap - but I’m deffo considering a preorder haha just kiddin ;D gj boys - and nice video - thanks

    Science of speed offers the plug and play fk8 swap for s2000 now, would be interesting to get a Honda crate engine with all factory Hondata flashpro engine management and reliability. For now, great coverage Larry, I’ve been to evasive a few times and they always are very helpful! The first parts I ever bought for my s2k was from evasive actually. I’m waiting for the c8 z06 swap s2000 someday! Would love to hear that flat plane melody out of my s2000!
