    Great game, very enjoyable. Keep the 15 min. format, you seem happier. Loved the two bishop endgame. I thought you outplayed him as a few of his moves were suspect. Too bad about the missed win but anyone who has not had that happen just doesn't play chess. Keep up the good work.

      Yes, the "two bishops" game was just fascinating to watch. I'm better with two Rooks. I definitely need to get better coordinating two bishops or two knights.

    My favorite resource for learning plans is the Chess Tempo database. For whatever reason there are more "mismatch" games in this database. It is easy to find games where a 1700 plays bad moves like Nxc6 in the Sicilian, and then gets destroyed by a random 2300 player. I really enjoy the new openings, especially the Sicilian stuff. 15/10 is also much better. Slow, but steady wins the race.

    I thought you had this one after calculating previously. Great taking time at the end when you had 8 minutes though. I think everyone tends to rush when there’s not that many pieces left but have so much time to get it right. Keep going 💪

    I feel like I hear most strong players recommend analyzing with the engine off. That way you have to actually come up with original improvements in your thinking/have to ask yourself, “Where did I go wrong? And Why?” I think doing it this way also forces you to think over the game in terms of what you and your opponent intended to accomplish with each move vs what the outcome of those intentions was. I think this way, there’s kind of a story-like conceptualization going on in how you think about how the game went as a whole, which I’m guessing helps it take shape and solidify in memory, and eventually inform your decisions in future games.
    On the other hand, doing it with the computer experientially boils it all down to: wrong move/right move, which I feel like makes the absorbed story simply, “I played like a troll/my moves were sharp” for the most part. Far less helpful I would say!

      Yeah I really like this idea and think it becomes even more important as you get stronger and stronger. I’m not sure how well it will fit with a RUclips video but I think I’ll give it a try

    • @davidjloudon1
      @davidjloudon1 21 день назад

      Heck yeah man! I think even a super fast flick through the game this way before turning the engine on will make a world of difference, because then when you see the evaluation you will have something to weigh your thoughts against. If the computer agrees, it’ll stick way more solidly, and if it disagrees, then now instead of it just being like “yeah damn that was dumb as hell” it’ll be more like, “I thought pushing for more space here would be good but now I see that I left weak squares behind and that was more important” or whatever

    I thought for sure that you were going to see the pawn push came with check. So damn close. You are right though, the wins are on the way.

      I don't play like you do, i.e., slow, positional, improving pieces, gaining incremental advantage. I just want to attack and play for tactics in open positions. I'm still lower rated, but I think my chess style will evolve into something close to Apex's aggressive/tactical style. Different styles, but you both are great to watch.

      I have this same thought all the time! My theory is that it’s basically two things- 1. When you’re a spectator you tend to see the board more objectively and 2. Not being in the driver’s seat means no mental energy needs to be spent worrying about losing or coming up with a plan, so you see more good moves. If only it were possible to play my own games like a spectator…

      They weren't the best team in the UCL again this year, but that doesn't seem to stop them. It will be interesting to see if Mbappe signing will help them next season or make things more difficult.

    Out of curiosity, if someone covered your travel expenses and hotel, how much of a prize would you have to compete for to fly somewhere to play chess over the board against Apex and others also trying to get to 2000? A road to 2000 tourney if you will. Sound interesting?
