Love how I get an ad for “learning guitar from RUclips doesn’t work” and yet here I am in the domain of master Marty. This man prolly taught more people to play then anyone else in history
Marty I love Joni Mitchell. I’ve had a childhood fantasy of her. every time I heard her music beforei knew who she was, I would hide behind a door and cry. Just a child. Her voice grabbed me. I know one song free man in Paris. . Her tuning technics inspired the greatest. . Absolutely my favorite
I think my brain would explode if I tried to figure out her open tunings…!!😳🤣 But I’ve always loved Joni and her music..!❤️ Court and Spark cassette got us through New England road trips in our vans… ✌🏼😎
I was born in 1971, I still remember hearing Help Me on the radio and loving her voice. I still love it to this day. I love how she "climbs and falls" with her voice. Please pardon my lack of proper terminology as I'm sure there are actual terms for that.
I searched “big yellow taxi guitar lesson” like two days ago and was really sad that Marty didn’t have a video tutorial for it. Two days later and now you do. I knew you were magic, but I didn’t know you were MAGIC😂😂👌
Thank you Marty! A terrific lesson! I love the open D tuning. I'm trying to get familiar with a few open chord tunings so I can mix things up when playing. Joni is so musical and extremely talented. I've been following her since the 60's. I'll look to see if you do any other alternate tuning songs. Thanks again!
In that "famous" video Joni is clearly capo'd on fret 4. Most tabs do as you have done and put the capo on fret 2. Joni's website says to play in in standard tuning EADGBE or "Joni" Tuning: E55545. Joni also goes up higher on the fretboard on occasion.(Clearly visible) I have not seen or heard anyone do it with capo at 4 as she did.
Thanks, Marty, Now I can tune in the propper tuning to play this. I've been wondering how Joni plays this song for years. I play it in standard, but I always knew that wasn't right. I can't wait to try this, thanks for singing it really helps me pick out the chord changes. Have a great day and keep up the great work. Dolores
For those of you who would rather not capo....do an open E tuning! 3rd string to A-flat, 4th string to E, 5th string to B... easy! I've done it for 30+ years!
I was literally looking for a guitar tutorial for this last night and then this morning I got a notification you uploaded a lesson on it! Great minds think alike! Thank you Marty!
Dude I love you Marty I think of songs I wanna learn and play and you always pop up. And ... I take off from there anyways thanks brother let's jam you can see my songs on jesse Martin you saved me..on RUclips
Anorther great tune and some pretty playing in there. Hey how about a Styx/ Fooling Yourself lesson someday. I just saw a video which made me think. Not many lessons on that. It’s kind of a fun acoustic one
Awesome video Marty! I was wondering if you could tell me what type of pick you had in one of your previous videos that had a little triangle grip lip on it? Thanks for all you do, I have learned so much from you and I am only scratching the surface.
Marty could you do a tutorial on Out Of My Head by Mac Demarco? Massively underrated song by him I think. It sounds like such a fun tune to play on the loop but haven't found anything anywhere on how to play it
I don't know if you've ever heard of this band but they're called Uriah Heep and the song is called Lady in Black I would love to know how to play that song
Hey I got a request. Can you start teaching some song from bring me the horizon? I like their music and im not good enough to start playing without help yet. Thanks
hey! i’m sure there’s no chance of you seeing this comment, but could you by chance do a tutorial on Hallucinogenics by Matt Maeson?!! there’s no other tutorial out there as accurate as the real song.. thanks!
Can y’all drop one of your favorite Joni Mitchell songs in the replies for me - this is the only Joni Mitchell song I know, would like to see what other people like so I can listen.

Marty, you taught me to play guitar about 10 years ago, and I'm still learning from your videos! Truly the best guitar teacher on RUclips
I searched “big yellow taxi guitar lesson” like two days ago and was really sad that Marty didn’t have a video tutorial for it. Two days later and now you do. I knew you were magic, but I didn’t know you were MAGIC😂😂👌
Always explains so fully each piece of music he is a wonderful teacher.
Joni is amazing. And people should listen to the lyrics, so old and still so up to date.
I get what you’re saying.. but it’s not Joni that’s “up” to date… but society that’s wayyyy behind ….🥲
@@joeurbanowski321 yeah. Sad but true.
Man!! So fun and TASTY learning with you. The best in the bizz 🙌🏼
I'm not a remotely good guitar player but this tutorial actually made me sound good, and sound like the recording. Thanks!
I am a fellow Marty and I’ve been watching and learning from your RUclips channel ever since I started playing guitar

Thank you Marty, Joni is always tricky to cover due to her tunings but you've really helped unlock this one for me. Many thanks, Steve (UK).

You still surprise me buddy!! One of my favorite songs ever!!! Forever grateful!!! 🤘❣️
The most beautiful thing is to see you having a lot of fun playng this tune. Seeing your joy is looking at the beauty of music!

Have always loved this song. Keb Mo does a fantastic cover of it with one of his kids providing additional vocals.
Love the Pinhead Gunpowder version too
Marty you're a rad dude
Your patrons have really good taste.
Glad you like them!
Thank you, Master Marty. Great lesson.
I was literally looking for a guitar tutorial for this last night and then this morning I got a notification you uploaded a lesson on it! Great minds think alike! Thank you Marty!
Same thing for me wtf. Like two weeks ago tho. That’s weird
This hurts my arm!! Lol haven't been playing for awhile but I think I got it down thanks. I even do the girly laugh at the end
Joni Mitchell never lied.

Hi Marty, i adore joni Mitchell, have you done both sides now? Thanks for the tutorial
Amazing work man, I have a request. If you haven't already could you do spooky by the Atlanta rhythm section
Marty please make a lesson of Self Control 🙏
How do you tune the guitar in this tuning? Do you need a special tuner?
Marty,
it's not just "a blues kinda thing."
It's "Boogie-Woogie."
Awesome!
Fun and sounds great! Thanks for this one
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yay! Thanks Marty! 😊💗
Day 2 For more daft punk. btw love your content, keep moving forward.
Nice singing
Marty if someone said we are going to transpose this to the key of F, would I have to change the frets I am playing? thank you
Hey Marty can you do witch hunt by rush? You do the best breakdown and lesson 👍
Great song. Playing guitar 🎸.
I need to see belle by jack Johnson taught by my guy Marty

Hey Marty, could you PLEASE do a lesson for the intro to Roundabout by Yes? Haven’t found a single good lesson on RUclips
I recommend this video by bobby crispy, I learned it from this video and its great

If that delicate little lady named Joni Mitchell can pinch those bar chords, so can we 👍🏻
Marty could you do a tutorial on Out Of My Head by Mac Demarco? Massively underrated song by him I think. It sounds like such a fun tune to play on the loop but haven't found anything anywhere on how to play it
Wait. Did anyone else see a little piece of scrunched up paper thrown into view at 8:45? Marty?
actually it was an AirPod falling out of my ear
@@MartyMusic that explains it! 😀
Can it be played and open E no capo?
Still can’t believe they put the trees in a museum.
And put up a parking lot. What dummies!
Foster Gardens in Waikiki which is a botanical museum that houses trees common and rare.
Shit Hot mate! Thanks very much.
I don't know if you've ever heard of this band but they're called Uriah Heep and the song is called Lady in Black I would love to know how to play that song
Could you do more Cat Stevens please?:)(
Bob Dylan did most of Blood on the Tracks with the same tuning and capo.
Any reason for not tuning to the open E chord and losing the capo thats how I am doing it.
no one else see the scrunched up paper being thrown at the end? 😂
Hey I got a request. Can you start teaching some song from bring me the horizon? I like their music and im not good enough to start playing without help yet. Thanks

I'm looking at my plank in the corner and it needs someone who can play.
So, the tune Big Yellow Taxi is in DADFAD? 😆😆
Does Tom read these comments?

Woodstock, great song.
River. And every song on ladies of the canyon. Blue is a great song too.
Both sides now (the lone acoustic version)
Check out the Joni Mitchell archives most of the songs are just her and a guitar.
Anything from the blue album, one of the best albums ever recorded, but especially California or River.
Why not just play it in Open E with no capo?
Why don't you just tune to open E major and play without capo?
How many stringa have you broken testing this theory?

After the recent spotify controversy I'm no sure if I'm allowed to learn this song without being vaccinated...
right off the top im sorry it could just be me but i feel the intro was a bit to long no offense you kill it tho sadly dont have a capo rn tho gonna try to learn the strumming in mean time use the same chords with normal tuning
Wierd timing. I was listening to this one on the work radio yesterday and looked it up.
Damn I’m really struggling with this 🥲
