The Bates doing a cover of Neil Young's (Hey, Hey, My, My, Out of the Blue and into the Black) Everybody associates it with Sid Vicious, because it mentions "Johnny Rotten" (Not THE Johnny Rotten) .. I'm a 51yr old Punk Rocker myself....

He's only famous for being a dishonorble idiot with zero talent. The only thing he was good acting like a punk rocker. At least that's what everyone who actually knew him says.
You'd have to be very young or very stupid to believe that this is Sid Vicious. For one thing, this doesn't sound a thing like Sid. Also, I love Mr. Young and all, but Sid would have never gone even near a Neil Young song. If Sid even saw Neil, he would've called him a hippie and maybe even hit him with his bass.
@@jh2245 From Wikipedia - Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black): ...1979 album Rust Never Sleeps...The song "Hey Hey, My My...", as well as the titular phrase of the album on which it was featured, "rust never sleeps," sprang from Young's collaborations with Devo and, in particular, the band's frontman, Mark Mothersbaugh.[2] In 1977, Devo had been asked by Young to participate in the creation of his film, Human Highway,[3] and a scene in the film shows Young playing the song in its entirety with Devo (with Mothersbaugh changing a lyric about "Johnny Rotten" to "Johnny Spud"). AND from Wikipedia page Hey Hey, My My (Out of the blue): Young compared the rise of Johnny Rotten with that of the recently deceased "King" Elvis Presley, who himself had once been disparaged as a dangerous influence only to later become an icon. In 1977, Rotten responded by playing a song by Young on a radio program.[6] To be honest I have become fascinated with this particular rabbit hole journey and discovered a cult film I was unaware of that I now badly want to watch - Dennis Hopper produced/directed and it featured Hey, Hey, My My (Out of the Blue) from which it derrived it's title From Wikipedia - Out of the Blue (1980 film) Cebe finds escapism in idolizing musicians such as Elvis Presley, Sid Vicious, and Johnny Rotten, and spends time alone in her father's wrecked semi-truck, which has been left abandoned on her family's property. I don't think Sid would have hit NY with his bass ;) Calling him a hippie, maybe (Dennis Hopper frequently tossed that around but also worked with one of the most well known 'hippies' to help with his film). Despite the rough on the edges attitudes, I believe these performers were/are highly intelligent people and violence is mostly stupid or a last resort in the case of smarter people [Except Sid, who was 'Willing Prey,' Malcolm McLaren's words]. pss. One of my favourite covid era jokes - Marijuana is legal. Haircuts are not. The hippies have won. psss. Who did this? I agree. I believe Sid would have had a great solo career as a front man. I would have been more a fan of his work than I was PIL. No offense to PIL. Just wasn't my taste minus a few great songs they did. I love Dissapointed even though it has late 80s Bill and Ted guitar production all over it.
Germany has been shut down for a long time now. Anyhow, A British with German blood. How uncommon. I am Hungarian and most of Yugoslavia, The Czech Republic and Czechlasla. I love this damn video.
I agree. That's actually why I questioned it, it's a hell of a coincidence, right? And if Neil Young did release it he could have stolen it; it would not be the first time a major artist ripped off another major artist. Just look at how Led Zepplin ripped off Jim Morrison for Stairway to Heaven. But I did a ton of digging, and this version of Hey Hey, My My was performed by a punk band called The Bates. Still an awesome song, and I think it is very possible Sid wrote this and then got ripped off and exploited, just like he was for his entire career. People always talked shit about how he couldn't play, but lots of people argue that he was pretty talented when he was off the junk.
lol the original is from neil young and his version already talked about jhonny rotten and another important thing , sid died in february 1979 , this song was released by Neil Yound in august 1979 so 6 month before the death of sid ...how sid could Cover a song written after his own death ???Oo
It is definitely not Sid's song, but it is entirely probable that Neil Young performed Hey hey My My before it was released on an album. It happens with nearly every artist. Sid could have ripped off Neil, lol. But seriously, youtube search "Jim Morrison stairway to heaven".
