Cal, I enjoy your videos. Especially those using a spinning-rod for Trout. I also have your book, “Trout Tactics.” It may very well be the Trout-Bible for spinning or bait casting rods. Keep up the great work. The videos and book are outstanding.

Hey thanks for the kind words...Reading my book and watching my stuff now, you can see my thoughts and tactics evolve over time. It's a great sport and the learning never ends. In that book I made certain not to leave the bank and/or bait anglers out. There is some snobbery among trollers thinking that slinging dough bait is easy. It certainly can be, but to take things to the highest level there is technique involved. Sometime subtle changes in leader length and such can make a huge difference in terms of the number of fish caught.

Great presentation of a quite secret method. I fished this rig over 40 years ago at the middle fork of the feather river, caught some big browns.

Thanks For The Comment John.....It's a super adaptable rig...You can use it to toss flies and even light spoons like the little tiny Dick Nites.....One of these springs I'm going to pair a bobber with Dick Nites of Vance's Sockey Slammers and go out and catch kokanee from the bank...I've done it at Stampede...But I want to do it on video....Bank Fishing For Kokanee!...LOL

Can confirm. I started using a fly and bubble with Pistol Pete's flies here in Colorado a few years ago and have caught tons of trout with this rig. Going to try Woolley Buggers this year too since I started fly fishing last summer and caught trout with them too.

Pistol Pete's work really well. As Cal alluded to in this video, that little propeller on the fly helps.

Well, this video is a real blast from the past!! I've had pretty good success with the bobber/fly rig. I'm taking my grandkids camping in a couple of weeks. There is a lot of shoreline, so flinging flies shouldn't be too hazardous...I hope.

Love this rig. A couple of months ago I caught a nice cutthroat trout using this with a fly called a renegade. I’ve caught tigers and graylings using this, too! Thanks for sharing!

My all time favorite trout setup! my dad showed me this, I was a young boy and I still remember how effective it was the very first time I used it.

It might be the most overlooked trout presentation...It's especially deadly for bank anglers! Thanks for watching and commenting Greg!

Thanks. Best tutorial on the water bobber. I use it with black wooly bugger and it's deadly and really attracts the larger trout.

I even do this on a handline. Wooley bugger....casting bubble. 3-4 ft leader. With a rod i would use a leader as long as the rod.

Great vid. Thanks! Takes me back. Used to use this method up in the Rockies catching rainbows, cutthroats and Browns about 35 years ago. My 24 yo son has got into fishing. Uses worms primarily and does well. I bought a collapsible pole and set it up for bubble and fly. I’ll see if I still got it.

Great video but a Pistol Pete is basically the same fly lure combo. They are great for catching large and small fish.

You ever use a dodger for trolling lake trout. we typically fish spoons in Canada a few weeks after ice out when trout are not deep(10-15ft).
