Charlton Heston was one of the biggest movie stars of the last half of the 20th century.
To put Charlton Heston’s career in some contemporary context, he was the Arnold Schwarzenegger or, if you like, the Chris Hemsworth of the 1950’s and 60’s.
Though, it must be said, Heston’s range of characters were far greater in more than 100 films he appeared in during a career that spanned six decades.
From his Oscar winning title role of Ben Hur to playing Moses in The Ten Commandments, and from his powerful performance in The Agony and The Ecstasy to his time-travelling astronaut in the original Planet of the Apes…. Charlton Heston was truly a movie hero for the ages.
But in 1981, at the age of 59, he was approached by his son Fraser to appear in an adventure film that Fraser had written, set in the Canadian wilderness.
The film was Mother Lode and co-starred Kim Basinger. Charlton played a crazy Scottish miner in search of his fortune.
But shortly before shooting started he found himself offered a further cinematic challenge, which he accepted.
Apart from an extraordinary movie career, Charlton Heston also had an extensive television career including appearing in the famous American soaps Dynasty and The Colby’s.
He was always an activist, who switched from the Democrats to the Republican Party and earned the ire of millions of his fans world-wide with a dogged pro-gun stance, including serving several terms as President of the notorious National Rifle Association.
And by the way, A bit of personal trivia, and perhaps a nice familial twist. His son Fraser had co-starred with dad as baby Moses ``in The Ten Commandments.

Heston was the greatest actor EVER to grace the silver screen! He was also an accomplished author & artist. He wrote several books, one being Charlton Heston's Hollywood, where one can see the wonderful sketch he did of Burl Ives, his costar in the movie "The Big country". Gone but never forgotten...!

Mr Charlton Heston was a ninth-generation American, that’s the reason he took on the NRA role. He should be remembered more for his huge cannon of work in films, tv, radio, & stage. He was a very ‘down to earth’ man, who was very humble. He’d just celebrated his 64th Wedding Anniversary to ‘his girl’, Lydia Clarke, three weeks’ before he died. RIP

to see how big and epic Heston was you have to realize that there hasnt been a single spanish movie that has come close to the sense of epic "The Cid" was in a "greater than life" sense. In Spain we are too constraint by reality and lack of epic. the search of the lack of epic as a virtue. Since Cervantes, I guess....we fight agains simple mills instead of real Giants. I salute you, Mr Heston! there is no other like you!

Few stars of the last 30 years compare to the stars of the Hollywood's golden Era. Actors today are very good at disappearing into their roles. Actors like Heston towered over their roles. I miss the great stars of yesteryear. They had a presence you don't get now.

He was and still is one of my favorite actor ..
... his acting in the Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur was very influential... he was the right actor in my opinion “chosen by God” to play in those movies
I never understood the fact that for many people, he fail when choses to be the president of rna ..... lots Americans people like have guns regardless if for hunting or self defense... after all you can kill a person even with a kitchen fork so ....!!!??
Just because he was an ethical actor I don’t see the problem for him to support weapons... and I’m one that don’t even know of to shot.. I don’t have guns.
Anyway great actor ... then who is without sin cast the first stone .

@@johnhanrahansmoviestarintervie You know, I used to believe that too. I used to say, "Why the hell don't they do something about the number of guns in the US? There's just no need for ordinary citizens to have guns." Then I began to think about the original purpose of that amendment and became doubtful. Then the Left got into power over there under Obama, and now Biden, and there were riots that nobody did anything about, and things just started to become generally crazy, and I did a 180. I see now that the Founding Fathers wanted something that could checkmate the government should the government ever go rogue and turn the country into a police state, as is threatened now with vaccine mandates.
Just as an addendum, most gun violence in the US is gang related, and most gangs are comprise of poor blacks. Take guns from ordinary citizens and the gangs would still have them and the killing would go on. The only difference would be that the ordinary citizens would no longer be able to defend themselves.
