I thought I had demo-itis but it turned out my mix was actually just good. Recorded a demo with my band. I don't really like mixing though, so eventually sent it off to a studio to mix. Got their mix back an it sounded terrible. I played it to the band, they hated it. Sent them my demo, which they had never heard before, and they thought it was way better. I sent the studio my dry stems and my processed one. So maybe they are just a bad studio... they were very cheap.
Thanks for the comment and sharing your story! They were probably just a bad studio / engineer lol. If I had your processed stems, I would've just enhanced what you and your band already liked without negatively changing anything. The mixing engineer should never disregard the vision of the artist or producer!
