it's pretty standard to set a character's friction to zero when there's movement input in a 2D platformer, which is almost definitely why the koopabackdashwaveslide hoverwalkmoonland works.
From what I know about animations in older games, it's possible the first frame of some of animations has a forward component that is then cancelled out by a backwards component, like how Link in Twilight Princess has a looping animation when picking an item up, except in Link's case the animation doesn't loop properly and his model slides very slowly every loop. Instead, in this case, I'd bet Samus's shield animation and grab animation both have a forward component, so you can string them into each other for extra speed that gets multiplied by whatever speed boost is active for ball form, rather than just being added on afterwards. If this is how it works then it may be possible to shield->grab Samus from one end of a stage to the other, just VERY slowly

I’m many years too late, but the Super Duper wavedash might be a a result of the same switch as the Koopabackdash- you get it. It might be switching using a slide velocity decrease from air dodging to using one from shield recoil (because you are already recoiling it may put you in that state). Wild guess though.

Koopabackdashwaveslide Hoverwalkmoonland was a great meme to kick off 2019, but it seems too difficult to pull off reliably for it to be useful outside of niche scenarios. It doesn’t help that it benefits characters we hardly ever see in tournaments anyways, so it’s kinda hard to tell if people are actually finding ways to implement the tech in games. I hope this vid brings more attention to the tech and that we get more ganon clips like the one in this vid in the future, but we’ve already known about the tech for like a year and a half and no one has really talked about it since it was discovered last January.

It is somehow connected to her Chozo DNA, since Space Pirates all died horribly trying to replicate it using Chozo tech in Prime.
Yup. Chozo tech is all about matter-energy conversions, and most of it is gene-locked. It's also how 225 missiles get packed into the suit.
