Thanks so much for posting. It was concise and very easy to hear and follow. I'm self teaching an older version that my son used when he was in school (ver.14) Although things were a little different I was able to sort them out.
Thanks so much. Worked like a charm. I can't imagine what would be easier. It was also easy to modify the the mirrored part separately from the original. Re: a recent post from Pranav, I think it's safe to say some are too stupid to know they're stupid.
How do you mirror Weldments, Sketches, Planes and etc to make a right- and left-hand part where they work independently, and you can modify one side without effecting the other side?
when i try to mirror part, there is no "merge solids" option. even if i slowly follow the instruction i only have 4 options, geometry pattern, propagate visual properties, full review, and partial review, i want to create symmetry part and i only want to work half then merge it
Could you give me advice how to deal with problem with mirror parts in assemble, please? I create it, then when I try to delete previous part all mates are deleted. I would be grateful if you could help.
Hi, i'm trying to do the same with a sheet metal part, and when i choose the needed plane i get the message 'bend face is an invalid face for sheet metal'. It won't mirror about a plane coincident with that face either. Do you have any advice?
I believe that you are running into a known issue in the software where faces of sheet metal are not allowed to act as the 'mirror plane' for a mirror feature. You would want to use a plane instead (you would need to create one if an appropriate plane is not present already using 'Insert', 'Reference Geometry', 'Plane').
I wish they would come up with a mirrored drawing. I have an entire assembly that is left and right handed. Its 2021 and solidworks still doesn't have a way to mirror drawings.
HELP thanks for video, can i make a mirror part undependable to source part?? i don't want to when i make a change on source file, mirror file be changed automatically
Hi Akbar, The mirror command named "Mirror Part" that starts at 1:29 in this video has an option to "Break link to original part" that, when enabled, will create a new part file that is independent of the original. This should accomplish what you are trying to do if you want to change the original design without changing the mirror design.
Yes, there is actually another command just for this. You would first select the mirror plan you want to mirror across then go to 'Insert', 'Mirror Part'. This command will let you save your mirrored object into another part file.
Hi Jonathan, In this video one of the planar faces was used as the 'mirror plane' but it would be perfectly fine to just use one of the principle planes (Front, Top, Right) in the model work space as the 'mirror plane'. You would still create a body mirror and delete the original in the same manner.
THANKYOU SO SO MUCH!!! Honestly been sitting replicating opposite parts for hours and this has literally reduced it to second!!!
Thank you for the tip Matt! As a self-taught person i find your videos very useful.

Thank you for this! Been looking for something like this for a while!
Really great. I tried to mirror sheet metal and also this function is working. Really thanks for this.
10/10. Very useful and straight to the point. Thank you sir.

Got it ! Thanks....the linked part works great and ensures symmetry !
every day you learn some new... thank you for this!!
Thank you matt you are a real life saver!
Glad to hear it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Very clear instructions.
I love the second method, super simple! thanks

Thanks Matt u saved my final project!
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Thank you. I spent an hour trying to do delete the feature while leaving the mirror. Who knew there was a DONT MERGE button :D
Well done video, excellent audio, ty!

Thanks, can I use this feature to mirror sheet metal component.
Note: Mirror component should flatten
really good help thank you so much !
It's our pleasure.
I recognise that part from essentials :-)
thanks
Thanks buddy
Great!
i always buy solidworks through you guys.
Thank you for choosing GoEngineer.
thanks!
To make a mirrored part in SketchUp, I use the Scale tool & scale to -1.0 (negative one).
Thanx..
thank you very much!

Thank you very much ! :D
You're welcome!
Thanks for the awesome video Matt! Question which method is the best way to do an opposite part why would you recommend?
Both have advantages and disadvantages. Which way is best really depends on how you want to use the part.
Very weldon sir
Great
Thx so much!

so can you save both parts separately and name them different?
Thank you

You just saved my Proyect. I was lossing the motivation :) Thanks

can you save the mirrored part as a separate part file?

Question: Will it work with written text on the parts?
Yeah, I tried this and the letter is messed up, it just like how you mirror a texts.
I wish they would come up with a mirrored drawing. I have an entire assembly that is left and right handed. Its 2021 and solidworks still doesn't have a way to mirror drawings.

I love you.
Very helpful!!!! Thank you so much!!!
You've just saved my ass
Saving people is what we strive to do. =)
the 2nd method doesnt work for me as the "mirror part" selection remains greyed out even when I select a mirro plane in the orginal part
Hello, make sure you are in a part file with a solid body. For further assistance, please contact our tech support team at www.goengineer.com/support
CAN YOU SAVE THE MIRRORED PART AS ANOTHER PART?
Yes, there is actually another command just for this. You would first select the mirror plan you want to mirror across then go to 'Insert', 'Mirror Part'. This command will let you save your mirrored object into another part file.
GoEngineer Please, do a video about it, no one really looks to all the possibilities to use in a symmetry.
Or just click the mirror button under features, it's way easier
ths
Thank you.
How do i mirror a part that doesnt have any flat faces?
Use an existing Plane or create a new Plane in the location you require.
Hi Jonathan,
In this video one of the planar faces was used as the 'mirror plane' but it would be perfectly fine to just use one of the principle planes (Front, Top, Right) in the model work space as the 'mirror plane'. You would still create a body mirror and delete the original in the same manner.
Hyyuui
Come from inventor, its complicated
You don't even know what you are talking about I tried it and it didn't even work
i think it cause you need more practice
thanks
Good!
thanks
