Thank you everyone for appreciating the music and production. Also the dancers in the video are very good. Just not me in that video. Plus I do like England. I stay in SW London (Clapham area) when I'm there. I just got back from London Oct 2013. I plan to go back sometime soon. I'm currently in NYC working on my 30 year anniversary and debut album. Of course it will be a digital LP and feature many DJ's and producers. Lots of collabs on this one.
It's nice hearing from you, Jerry/Hashim. Just want to say that this is one of the greatest electro tracks I've ever heard, so thanks for such an amazing piece of music history! And by the way, I kind of figured this is not the official video the moment I realized this video was shot in the London Underground rather than somewhere in America.
Jerry Aka Hashim you´re the shit!! Thank you for doing that amazing thing and this should be the official video to your unforgetable song! Well i thought that for many years until today Wish that someone knows about all the dancers names and if they still alive and dancing with 40 or 50 years! Thanx Hashim!!!
I enjoyed 'Planet Rock'. Enormously. But I MUST agree with you, this track is truly incomparable. This track, 'The Art of Noise' and pretty much anything by "Kraftwerk', jumped started my lifelong love of Techno.
The 80's were so much fun, many talented kids, i'm forever grateful i grew up in the 80's. The music and dance style can't, and Never will be touched. #80sForEver!
OMG!!! I had NEVER, EVER seen this video before. London Underground in the 80's. WOW. I vividly remember, hearing this in 1984??? and asking my friend Tony Thomas about the title of the song. Over, and over, and over... my 16 yo brain could not catch on to, Al-Naafaysh. And Tony was so AWESOME. He never lost his patience with me! The 80's.
I'm a heavy metal guy, through and through.. And I can't stop watching this stuff lately! My friends at work are freaking out, cuz they have all of the sudden began hearing me play all this 80's synthesizer dance music lately instead of the metal I usually play. Thanks for sharing this video.
What sort of Stuff are you listening to TexasG?.. I'm from that era and I know one of the guys in that video? Maybe I can recommend some Kool stuff like ruclips.net/video/O6zkbjOvXWo/видео.html.
What the hell happened to these types of masterpieces? I guess it's a once in a lifetime thing because can't none of these fools today come close to this!
This was on beeb documentary Arena and this was the principle reason I spent my formative years spinning around on lino and nicking my mum's Mr sheen! I'm 47 now but every time I hear al naafyisih I still want to do the flares. Probably get a hernia.
Have to love all the suits and assorted folk in the background thinking "kids today, this isn't dancing, well not proper dancing like I used to do back in the 70's ahh saturday night fever... now that was dancing!" Here we are 30 yrs later and proven to be a timeless classic.
This brings back so many good memories. Back in the early 80’s I was in a breakdance crew in Kent. This tune, along with many others, was constantly played on our boom boxes. We lived and breathed hip hop and I am still in to it. I gravitated later to DJing and I still play this track, it’s still so good and never dates. I want to give thanks and praises to everyone involved in this classic video. Good to also see the London Underground back then, as I remember using those ticket machines too! Long live Electro and old school hIp hop.
This Video was so authentic it took me right back to the early 80s none of us could take 2 steps without busting a move! It was what we did all day everyday DANCE! If you were good enough all the other poppers & breakers would give the you “The Break” part of the song that meant your skills were respected !! So much fun watching this made me cry!! Damn I miss the days!! ☝️Love
I have a theory. The oppressed african-americans of that time found how to "play the system" and escape poverty. Having enough money to finance their own record companies and the FCC loosening its grip, tadow. Or more simply, freedom breeds chaos. Absolute freedom breeds anarchy.
The thing is that this was an underground instant classic, so it's not like it was getting any radio play back then. There was absolute shit on the radio in the 80's as well. And I bet back then there were people listening to this and going "What is this thrash!?" It's not different from today, we get total ass on the radio and brilliant tracks in the underground. Platforms like Soundcloud and Bandcamp have been crucial to popularize so much new stuff, like synthwave for example.
Brings back memories of the old-school London Underground. It's quite close to how I remember it used to be like 20 years ago (in the early 90's, a decade after this video). I wonder which stations this was shot at? Anyway, nice video to go along with one of the greatest electro classics, Al-Naafiysh.
Remember this being on the TV back in 83/84 and being blown away by it. We'd been up to London a few times and hung around Covent Garden where alot of breakers would be. My mate reckoned he saw 'Turbo' in this video, one of the breakers who we hung around with.
This song is one of the top 5 dance tracks ever... In my humble opinion. There has never been a 12" single that hit so freaking hard out of a club sound system not to mention a jam box or powered up car stereo back in the day. The baseline, synth riff and 808 wood block pattern has inspired countless other dance tracks over the years... Including some of my own. The video has that awesome diy underground vibe which is very cool. I can't even begin to convey my everlasting respect and love for this song. I would love to see a 'making of' documentary for the recording session.
i have this on the 12 inch and on electro complilation, never get tired of it,takes me back 30 odd years ago when i was street dancing :)love the video, so old skool :)
This what this tune needed I first herd this in 1983 when I seen on a old friend's TV and video recorder B-Boys B-Boying to this my very first seeing of underground HIP HOP Culture.I love the black and white footage and the way the whole video is shot makes it look real classic. And I say to the people in the video who do not like what these B-Boys, Body Popper's, Robot Dancers, etc are doing in this video. That do not know or understand HIP HOP Culture.Peace Geebeats.
I believe this was shown on a bbc2 documentary called 'arena'. This (and breakers revenge & maybe boogie down Bronx) were THE tunes to break to. Still love this track today and the smell of Mr sheen will always remind me of lino. happy days.
OMG I have waited for ages for this to surface Thank you Thank you. The one I remember started with some workmen digging in the London Underground and finding bones and a skull "Take a look at those nashers" then cut into #missingthe80s
Madre mía, pa' ir a mear y no echar gota jajajajajaja qué pepinaco infernal y como se lo curran esos breakers. Thank you very much Mike great song and the breakers are excellents.
Fantastic video, lovin this. Proper old school London style. I recognise the popper at 3.55, he was in the Channel 4 documentary that came out in 84, if I remember right he was from an East London crew, would have to watch it again to remind myself. Props for uploading this, always great to see anything of the London scene from the early to mid 80s, not much of it about unfortunately.
I love this video as well. However, this video was made for the promotion of the London Underground and was not the original video of this track. Nevertheless a good combination of these two :-)
Some of this footage by Geoff Stern ended up in his 1987 video installation "Underground" - compare for example scene in this video starting 3:55 and scene in "Underground" starting 7:35 www.petestern.com/underground
This brings me back to my childhood. I couldn’t think of the name of this song for years and I finally found this. Ty sooooo much!!!! 2024
Me too! I thought it was a Paul Hardcastle jam. I've search nearly 35 years for this song
Thank you everyone for appreciating the music and production. Also the dancers in the video are very good. Just not me in that video. Plus I do like England. Thank you @JaggedEdge for apreciating it.
That's back when London became the new Boogie Down Hashim! Great days. Great track.
Jerry Calliste Jr my favorite jam back then stupid dope
3:37 - That's my Uncle!!! Surreal seeing him this young
can you give more context about video
@@ayxan3950 It's a some lads on the morning commute to work on the London underground, body popping and breaking as he commutes. It's pretty obvious.
Dancing to one of the most badass tunes ever produced
WoW!!!! ❤🎉❤
LONDON and NEW YORK together gave us so much musical talent in the early 80's.
This track should've been bigger than Planet Rock. THIS is Electro.
I enjoyed 'Planet Rock'. Enormously. But I MUST agree with you, this track is truly incomparable. This track, 'The Art of Noise' and pretty much anything by "Kraftwerk', jumped started my lifelong love of Techno.
I used to DJ back in the early 80s and when I played this, the entire place was up and dancing. Absolute gripping beat!
I can't express how much I love the combination of this track and the video. It's a time capsule to what remains a wonderful time.
You say it, brother.....absolutely!!
