Many drains are inverted egg-shaped (coffin shaped as you describe) for a few reasons:
    1) They're incredibly strong in compression, so may be used in certain soil substraits or where there is a lot of development above causing increased downward pressure on the drain structure.
    2) At lower flow rates, the flow speed increases due to a narrower path which can help to clear general debris build up, and as flows increase, the tunnel diametre increases allowing an exponetial increase in possible flow capacity.
    3) Depending on companion services buried nearby, a 'coffin shaped' tunnel can allow similar (if not more) flow to a round tunnel but with less side-side footprint, allowing other services to run through an associated easement.

Dude, be careful. The pigs build mouse traps down their. Where you fall through the floor in to a cavan like a mouse falls in to a trap. You live in that Cavan the rest of your life.
