your fibreglass repair is..... different. You could make it easier for yourself by purchasing some closed cell foam and pouring it into the hole you dug into the core then shape, sand and then add a layer of glass on top.
My father used to build boat for boston whaler back in the 80's or so before they moved to florida.I can respect that you are properly repairing the boat I have watched my father rebuilding a privateer lobster boat that was burnt on the upper half and he made a new top and added a stern to the boat plus removing the inboard and mounting an outboard motor instead.
they had it..half way thru..guy got impatient..and started to caveman it and..rip ..lol. note to self...buy a straight blade razor next time..would of been way better than an exacto knife
I have had luck painting on thinned epoxy into the badly cracked fiberglass (after grinding off gelcoat like you did). I used a heat gun to ensure the epoxy flowed into the cracks. Years later, no issues. You may want to get your fiberglass supplies from US Composites...to save money. More planning in the layup process will save LOTS of time. Rough it out with glass, grind to shape, fair, gelcoat. Whoever mentioned the expandable foam is on target.
It's been exciting to watch this rebuild come together. I'm not a builder at all so it's pretty interesting to see how things that look irreparable turn into beautiful functioning items again.
fiberglass mat which I see in your video is not by default designed to work with epoxy resin. The fiberglass mat is difficult to wet out using epoxy. The binders in the mat are made with polyester resin and are best wetted out with polyester. Ask your fiberglass shop where you purchased the materials from. I am going by what I see in the video so 'please' take the comment with a grain of salt.. Your videos are great and your ambition is somewhat contagious. Keep them coming.... Joe
Should that foam be replaced with foam and FG on top? Anyhow, I wanted to let you know. They make a fiber glass resin that uses UV light from sun to set. If you need more work time on your resin this stuff does not harden until you want it to by exposing to sunlight.
There is a part of me that has always wanted to work on a boat, I suppose the curiosity of how they operate more than anything. No particular desire beyond that to own or operate one. This is series is scratching that itch! Thanks dude.
Overkill on the fiberglass finding u might as well of just sanded those down enough to mix epoxy and angel hair !! Then u just layer it put on extra thick to fill in all the cracks !! The sand down til u see again them fill again in layers !! And keeps sanding !! That’s how u fiberglass in layers just like a tail of a surf board !!! That’s is the most overkill way to find cracks !! Just so paint don’t crack !! Personally bro I would of just found a Avery wrap material color close and if you really tho k about it it would be cooo to include digital wrap and advertising is the best way to tell people what u did with boat and wrap is up my alley and 12 volt mecp certified!! I would definitely not paint and come up with a cool digital design on the rails with ur channel and info !! !! It’s the digital age !! And u can change it up and the digital design ‘ look at Pavarti and see how the mix paint and wrap !! Fuck gel coat ! Wrap it up !!
I'm an body technisian at an RV dealership I literally do this stuff all day. You guys are crazy dremeling out the fiberglass with short sleeve shirts.
Just recently stumbled upon your channel. Saw you were rebuilding a speed boat and was IMMIDIATELY hooked!Keep up the great work and good luck with the build! 🤙🤙😉
Daaaaaang bro! How do you make it look so easy and stress less. Best of luck to you. Can’t wait to see it done and some boat videos of it on the lake with the killer wake!
Using that fiber glass made me itchy just watching , let's hope she floats better than the titanic did all they cracks gives me the fear but if it sinks think of the views you will get just don't let the guy who crashed the jet ski have 1st shot , much love from the UK 😎✌
@@RebuilderGuy aw and you said it was his brother that done the burn out on the Ducati last video , can you imagine jet ski crasher towing his surfing bro tell him he will need to wear a helmet and cup for that video just to be safe . 😎
You really should get someone that knows what they are doing with fiberglass and gelcoat. I have fixed a lot of fiberglass and gelcoat over the years and this is not how to do it
You have to sand all those cracks down to the fiberglass. Then rebuild the fiberglass back up with fiberglass fill. Then prime it and sand it flat. Then gelcoat. Gelcoat is extremely difficult to apply, especially to blend in. Gelcoat does not dry like paint. You have to cover the gelcoat in wax or plastic in order for it to dry. The drying process is a chemical reaction
You have to feather the sanding out. Not just grind down the cracks with a Dremel. The first decent wave you hit it will crack all over again. I just hate to see you do all this work and have it do the same thing again.
You guys should of used a heat gun on low to heat that glue up and get that flooring up, it would of be way more convenient then pulling back the floor board and cutting the epoxy
I would like to make a few suggestions. First, where the dealership installed any piece that they drilled and "JUST SCREWED: the accessory, i'd go back and reinforce any accessory attached. I had to do that on my old boat. A dealer attached a light bar monstrosity and radar device. When ever we get in and out of the boat we hold onto the accessory structure, the gelcoat and fiberglass cracked. I went down to a used metal shop, bought so,e 5/16 thick aluminum pieces about 6 inches wide and 12 to 24" long. Drilled holes and attached between the hull cap and the back side of the accessory. This strengthened the darn device. Now the grand kids can use it for a jungle Jim. I saw from your pictures that your stuff isn't reinforced either, just a word from the wise.
Those cracks get grinded all the way then get built up with new glass. Use an angle grinder easy peasy since working outside. Can use 1708 for the buildup. If the cracks go all the way can leave a thin layer to act as the form. The final finish and fairing work is a skill best to hire out.
Guys instead of following the damage and chasing spider cracks with the Dremel it is much easier to just make repair patches that are regular shaped and cover an entire area. Even if the sider cracks were only in the gel coat you still have to remove the entire gelcoat of that area. Again on the wake platform why not just cut out regular quadrants and then grind back the area to match the patches. Also maybe a bit of hot air on the c-deck may have removed it intact. You could always aim to take your repair to the nearest structural point to avoid hard spotting and causing future damage to the gelcoat. Much easier to fair in large sections as well and overall it saves time overall
How come you didn't use some expanding foam to fill the void on the surf deck and sand to shape before laying the top layer? Would have made life a little easier?
Good shit man boat sounds amazing last video keep up the great video I already know we gonna see this boat ripping looking perfect in the water in no time !!

It would look great for a few months. But in my experience, red hydro turf fades quickly in the direct sunlight with average weekend use in the course of a season or so.
first of all thanks for this videos, i respect your commitment. i know you tube is good for learning stuff, but believe me, using epoxy resin, and your planing to gelcoat on top with polyester base gelcoat is going to fail, don't get me wrong i am not criticising, i really will like to help. i am willing to give any advice and if needed even give a hand , i been working with fibreglass and gelcoat for 20 years, and worked at a top Yatch builder in UK. please keep those videos coming.
I was waiting to see if anyone would point that out. This gentleman is correct, let him help you.The knowledge from the videos was incomplete/ insufficient to do this repair properly. The videos lacked details like the poly over epoxy bonding. There is a lot going wrong/going to go wrong here. He need's more knowledge on proper prep, repair techniques , and the differences in materials etc. Needs to understand scarf ratio, what grit discs to prep with since this is a mechanical bond repair vs a chemical bond as was the original construction. Material wise, differences between mat, roving, biaxial, stitch mat, resin, epoxy, fillers etc etc. He's seen a video stating epoxy has the best bond and strength and went with it. I hope that chop strand mat isn't what he plans to use to skin the whole side as that is not a structural type of glass. I don't see any foam to fix the platform core properly. Anyway enough on that. I'm sure he'll get the idea.
your fibreglass repair is..... different. You could make it easier for yourself by purchasing some closed cell foam and pouring it into the hole you dug into the core then shape, sand and then add a layer of glass on top.
Thats what I was thinking, same stuff used on custom stand up skis. Try uscomposites for the 2 part foam!

Getting there looking good 👍👌😊 keep up the good work 😷👁️....
Can't wait to see it in the water
Looking forward to the spider crack repairs iv got some on my seadoo that needs fixed
That boat is gonna be a beast on the water , can’t wait to see it hit the surf 🏄♂️, super cool 😎
It doesn't "hit" the surf - It MAKES the surf :-)
No shit Sherlock 🕵️♀️, hit the surf like hit the water 💦- really wow 😮

No fun job i think with the difficult places. But congrats with the 100k subs👍🍻
Having a similar problem spider cracks on my boat how are you going to color match the gel coat areas?
I bought color matched gel from the factory
Sweet i love watching the work getting done
Love the videos man just wish they where longer.
Good on you for having a crack at fixing the fibreglass. Saved a lot of money.

How do you lock in the existing fibre glass coat to the new coat? I would have thought the cut edge will crack easily without reinforcement.
Niiiiiiice angles it gives a whole new perspective. Congratulations on 100k let’s get to 200k. Hope to get there one day.
SuPeR BoAt🥴🤣 so fucking hilarious every time you call it a super boat🤣🤣

Will it still be sturdy though?? Because if it gets the job done…it’s fine...right???
Keep up the good work. You guys do some great work.
Loving the rebuild so far!
You guys should of used a heat gun on low to heat that glue up and get that flooring up, it would of be way more convenient then pulling back the floor board and cutting the epoxy
Awesome video great work on your boat keep up the good work
Thank you Mr Corona Man :)
Can't wait for the next video, incredible work.
Congrats on 100K. Have spider cracks, will look forward to more detail on repairs

Another great video.
Last year I said you would reach 100K.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Yes I remember Steve Thank You!

I use the resin that uses the sun to cure For small repairs. You pull the boat outside drys in minutes. Then you can grind and keep the build going.

I'm seriously itchy just watching that. I can appreciate someone trying to learn a new skill......but dang
I think I can perform open heart surgery just by watching RUclips

o and when doing glass repare always use a wood saw or sum with teath so that the line will blend better
Raw fiber glass looks good when it means recouping some of your investment by doing it in the house.
Next video pls, i love these restauration jobs...^^
Red Cammo hydro turf on the swim platform would look nice dude definitely cheaper than original I'd say
That is a very good suggestion. It will make the boat look brand new again.

@@Solas750 Good luck with the project. We look forward to your follow up videos. Cheers

Great channel!
I would of reinforced the fibreglass on that one side from the inside and wrap the spider cracks with clear braw and see if that would hold.
you should have refoamed the platform with spray foam or something... now you have an air bubble in there
Hell ya srt4 keep up good work on boat
