Medieval 2: Total War - the game in which the inquisition can come after a beautiful princess and deem her unholy, thus turning her into a common male and burning her at the stake.

The Crusader states were destroyed early on in a game of mine, leaving a single priest alone in exile. Seeing as the area was 0% Catholic, I thought "poor guy; but he won't have to deal with things much longer" and sailed home to Europe. I return to the area 150 years later, and he's still standing there! I like to believe he's the commentator of my game events...
Alestiiidae [no_last] yeah, the characters age disproportionately, family members age 1 year every 2 years and agents such as diplomats and priests age 1 year every 4 or 6
I realize this is an old comment, but I just have to say I entirely agree. Cutscenes and the critical events set up by those cutscenes made the game feel more lively and defiantly added a complete new level of immersion. What bugs me about the recent Warhammer total war is the lack of these cutscenes and the lack of these larger events save for the Chaos invasion. Where are the witch hunts? The potential empire civil war (in mid-late game)? The dwarves celebrating capture of key iconic holds held by the greenskins? The greenskins uniting under one banner? Stuff that made the game and the world that it was established in feel a greater deal more alive.
i doubt it and even if there is there gonna be limited. Victory cutscenes are gonna be none existent given the first game had none. Event cutscenes there might be one or maybe 2 in correspondence to the tornado being contested over and maybe a surprise Skaven invasion. Agent cutscenes are also gonna be non existent cause again they weren't in the first game. Intro cutscenes will be there but honestly they should be there anyway to again build up the faction and establish the setting and theme. Overall its gonna be as barebones as the first game mainly cause CA just doesn't care in that regard anymore and the main portion of the audience thinks its unnecessary. Why they think this? I have no idea, but I rather see 15-20 solid little cutscenes of events, victory's and intros a hundred times over so the world can feel a great deal more alive.
robosoldier11 not even with a patch they can add victory videos or more video events ? also is a lesser shame that civilians don t appear in the game. a great evil flavour for faction like the undivided chaos warriors , beastmens, greenskins and in part the vampire counts is lost.
4:42 This gem of a game can make even something as dainty and boring sounding as a "Princess Marriage" seem badass. The sheer genuine adulation of the crowd combined with the organ and grand architecture of the cathedral really put you in the moment. It almost brings a smile to my face for their virtual marriage...They really don't make games like this too often anymore.
As odd as it may be, the best reason I liked Medieval 2 was because your units changed appearances with armor upgrades. Something that if I'm not mistaken hasn't carried on through the series. It kinda added a certain degree of RPG quality to it when you compared your original levy spearman to the up-armored version you had later in the game, the progression and what not was shown by your higher quality troops. Nothing like the Imperial looking armies done up in full plate to really sell the game.
Jerec 12 man that game made me absolutely have to have all my units fully upgraded so they'd all be matching in plate armor. Never again. It was an addiction to watch those silver troops march.
Well it wasn't that unique, all it did was that it swapped the models with the next age version. So your feudal knight ditched his mail for plate, while his middle ara version changed their armour to late are version. But yeah, it was a nice touch.
Assassins? merchants? spies? priests? Too much of a hassle. I usually just make a ring around them and walk one unit into the priest or whatever causing him to die of claustorphobia.

@@blastermaster5039 Yep as Skirmish Cav they have the fastest speed in the game afaik equal to all other lite Cav, only 3 or is it 2 missiles but they should be armour piercing, and useful for then charging enemy skirmishers or routing units even useful for a quick rear charge and withdraw against heavier units as a distraction.
"Cathedral built" is just from the princess married video - "church built" is from the priest assassination video, apart from that's it's all accurate 👌
What's my favourite thing to do while playing it? Maybe crushing your enemies, seeing them driven, hearing the lamentations of their women? - No. Or, maybe, raising entire cities? - No! Maybe, developing your cities and characters and seeing how they flourish? - NO! Burning heretics! That's what I love best!
Favourite campaign that I ever played was as turkey on very hard/very hard. Withstood decades of continuous crusading armies through the Bosporus and my lands in general. I then took the whole brunt of the Mongol invasion with some insanely epic battles. Met the victory conditions and didn't play any further so no timurids. No longer have the save for that so maybe one day I'll start over again. It was a memorable campaign. A lot of fun from start to finish

+The Greek Prince of Kroton Well, sorry. Aver I have read my comment, I think you are right. It sounds stupid what I said. It was just the first thing who came into my mind :/
Tbh the Mongols were a lot harder to beat then the Timerids, largely because by that point the best places in the Middle East are usually still castles or strongholds, no bugger has enough money yet because they're spending it all on troops. I'd always have to pull back to the edge of the Middle East, Maybe into Asia Minor, concentrate my money on building strong walls and big garrisons, and hope to god they targeted the Egyptians or Turks instead. By the time they reach you they've usually been in enough battles to whittle their forces down to 2 or 3 stacks, with the rest being garrison forces around Palestine, Jerusalem and Damascus. It also usually helps to swamp the Mongols when the cutscene tells you they're coming with assassins (and a saved game so you can keep reloading whenever an assassin fails or save when one succeeds), this will help split their forces and turn their leaderless stacks into garrisons whenever they conquer a town/castle. By the time the Timerids arrive you've usually swallowed the Middle East and any Castles have likely become fortresses or citidels, so you can pull your forces from any settlements and just hold there. Never ever defend the outer wall, wait till it's destroyed and they send their artillery through and throw your cavalry at them. Don't hold there too long or they'll pore through, so be as quick as you can. This is usually the hardest part since they may send more than one stack against you. If you can do that, their elephants are useless and they can only bring ladders through if they made any. The stupid AI will usually just line them all up in front of your wall with no way of getting at it, so you can pelt them with arrows. When those run dry, just leave it to your towers with infinite arrows. Wind time forward cos it will take the piss, seriously, especially the elephants, but ye, you'll crush them! And then anything left over that flees can be run down with your army safely barracked in the fortress/citadel once the battle is over.
Medieval 2 was basically Rome, but improved in almost every way. By the way, at the end, they showed by favorite unit of the entire game: Elephant Artillery! Medieval tanks! Seriously, go on a custom battle, give yourself a full army of them, and give the enemy one infantry unit. Then, tell all of your units to fire on them. It's so cool!
Burlyman0 it is impossible to not see crusade one. I mean, first crusade is in like first 10 turns. I have never discovered new world tho, fucked up the world too fast.

"...and in every age there come forth things that are new and have no foretelling, for they do not proceed from the past." -The Silmarillon, J.R.R. Tolkien.
I need this guy to announce whenever I reach new life goals
Nothing like balancing a crusade, two mongol invasion and planning to go to the americas as Spain.
Btw. Jinetes are definitely top tier I tell you.
They're awesome for sniping enemy Generals very cost effective.
@@IceniTotalWar INCREDIBLY cost effective.
Not to forget that they're as fast as mongol archers AND can actually fight in melee!
I'm amazed to learn that Transoxania was the name of a real place. And equally amazed that it's spelled exactly like it sounds.
It's where they send the trans oxen. Or something. Lol.
5:46 put subtitles on.
WTF!?
Why?
Yousef Atta I honestly don't remember why have I written that comment...
Akward
*Awkward
Thnx human auto corrector
"Cathedral built" is just from the princess married video - "church built" is from the priest assassination video, apart from that's it's all accurate 👌
You have to build one specific church, it will apear like some guild (in the beginning of the turn). I don't remember the years, I am sorry..
good old days
The idea of fully armored medieval troops marching in cross formation is hilarious.
News about Mongols was the most scared news for me :(
What's my favourite thing to do while playing it?
Maybe crushing your enemies, seeing them driven, hearing the lamentations of their women? - No.
Or, maybe, raising entire cities? - No!
Maybe, developing your cities and characters and seeing how they flourish? - NO!
Burning heretics! That's what I love best!
Nothing more authentic than some Aztec bashing a full plated soldier with some wooden club to death
What animal makes that sound at 0:18? I remember also hearing it in World of Warcraft.
Are you sure it's an animal 🤔 i always thought it was a native flute .
Admit It, we all went to see the Crusade.
1:53
What the hell kind of marching formation is that?!
+Duesal Bladesinger It's a bunch of soldiers forming a cross. Most likely to get a player excited for the crusade I'd guess.
The Greek Prince of Kroton That's the only benefit I can think of. :P
Or maybe to "impress" god because they think he is watching them
What I find funny personally, is atheist tend to say. "Stop shoving your religion down my throat." Yet, you say things like this
"Or maybe to "impress" god because they think he is watching them"
Now come on man!? Why do you have to bring atheism in this? We fans of MTW2, just want to enjoy our game without you harassing us.
+The Greek Prince of Kroton Well, sorry.
Aver I have read my comment, I think you are right.
It sounds stupid what I said.
It was just the first thing who came into my mind :/
now this is what rome 2 total war lacks and so many other things
This game had some of the greatest mods I've played so far. First and foremost: Third Age Total War
For the quarantine and lack of data, I actually memorized the narrator whole text
I played mediëval 2 for hundreds of hours, but still I didn't saw them all..
"...and render castle walls near useless!"
Bastion fort designers - Come again?
On 2:33. Turn subtitles on. Lol. Literally
Lol
God works in mysterious ways
wait what happened? I think i missed it
Matheus B. Dambrowski nothing special happens now :(. The caption bot is too advanced!
Man i really hope for med 3 next
medieval 2 is my favorite total war game ever !
Atleast he update the video.
No one expects the 2:57
best meme ever
Medieval 3 Total War needs to be made.
CA is too busy creating games with magic and spooks.
It's so cool!
man i am missing those cutscenes so hard
In real life the scream of the man being burned alive would habe been several times louder and several times more intense.
2:58 goodness me, that took me by surprise.
Medival 2 was the best game because all units were useful. I'm tired of units not getting a single kill in the modern games
It would be cool having a total war game aging from rome to Napoleon.
Where pick a country and the first king is named after you.
Best strategy game that I have ever played and continue to play.
I like how the iquisition seane litteraly looked just like some acient barbarian sacrifice or something.
It took gunpowder 200 yrs to manage to pierce armor
I have literally never seen these while playing this game.
IMazeStudios Well then you either have never played it or just never played it long enough.
Burlyman0 it is impossible to not see crusade one. I mean, first crusade is in like first 10 turns. I have never discovered new world tho, fucked up the world too fast.
Same for me with the gun powder scene
CA really needs to make Medieval 3. Shogun 2 is still more or less fresh but Medieval 2 aged a bunch.
I don't trust CA to make a fun Med 3. Maybe if the company culture changes and we get a new engine or if someone buys CA, yeah. But in the meantime i could go for a Med 2 Remaster.
