Fasting for immune function is also supported by science!
Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data:
The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers over time with extended fasting and rise from dieting
Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system.
Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic.
Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque.
Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy!
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS.
It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue ruclips.net/video/giEDadzoErs/видео.html
Does the body prefernetially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! ruclips.net/video/Nf1jwMbvNxw/видео.html
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Is fasting just the same as caloric restriction? No! Dieting increases the hunger hormone ghrelin while fasting decreases it and has many other health benefits! ruclips.net/video/sVl-nilhWLc/видео.html
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! ruclips.net/video/teQIaU6wp2o/видео.html
Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: ruclips.net/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/видео.html
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! ruclips.net/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/видео.html
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow.
      What breaks a fast? ruclips.net/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/видео.html
Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle!
      ruclips.net/video/fJUDucBWv4s/видео.html
Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

We ALL need this kind of simplified information to be given during every doctor visit. We can then help ourselves. If we understand what's going on we can help and work in partnership with our doctors. Years ago medicine was a great mystery known only by those who were trained to be part of the mystery. I had had half my lung removed and I didn't know it until years later when I overheard it spoken of, by chance, by another doctor. Times certainly have changed. Imagine being under the care of these two men? And complete faith in your doctor is that little extra spark that can keep you alive.

The hand grenade analogy is a good one . It's such a delicate balance . So if your getting really sick from say a COVID infection your immune system maybe overreacting . Could you then say you are more susceptible to autoimmune diseases ? So people who don't show symptoms have a balanced immune system ? Autoimmune diseases and inflammation has such a big impact on our bodies . These are protection mechanisms that get out of control and we really don't know why . We treat the symptoms with medication but it's not a cure . Now do aboriginal tribes have this problem not living in a modern society ? I believe not and many other things like cancer is at lower rates . So our modern society is probably the culprit with factors of environment and diet playing a big role . Our life spans are longer do medical care but that may not improve quality of life

The key is to understand the roles of specific nutrients in our body that enable the innate immune system to function properly. Sufficient amounts of these nutrients are required to give your immune system the antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and regulatory properties it needs to perform at its best. And if you get sick, boosting dosages of specific nutrients to target the specific infection is another key. Your body knows what to do, you just need to give it the right tools to do its job.

I believe I have had 3-4 variants over the last 2 years, 3 being quite mild and delta a bit of a challenge. Emeritus Prof. Clancy one of my favourite Australians, a national treasure. His article in Quadrant on the Australian Governments banning of GP's from prescribing Ivermectin for Covid is well worth a read. Titled - A Sad and Shameful Day for Australian Medicine

    • @theseustoo

Agreed! All the more so because Ivermectin would work on ANY variant! I've said often enough that this is our real answer to the 'pandemic'... if, that is, it's really NOT a 'plandemic'. Of course, if 'they' don't really want to end a 'plandemic', they're hardly likely to want to promote a cheap and effective cure, though, are they? :/

Helped me better understand how my body works if I start getting aches and pains etc. I liked the way you both marvel at the human body rather than seeing it as something that is always working against us and has to be controlled by medication (not that medication is a bad thing) but also to recognise when our own body is doing its job as well with fever, muscles aches etc.

I just got past the Covid. I have three immune system diseases. Crohn’s disease, pseudo gout, rheumatoid arthritis. Im on Humira, and methotrexate. I’m 63 and NOT vaccinated.
I knew I was sick on Tuesday night. Wednesday morning, I tested positive. I didn’t take any fever reducers. Friday night I let the fever do what it is supposed to do, fight infection. My fever went to 102.5. At 3:00 am. I took advil… Saturday morning I felt great. I started my waking regimen with 1 mile, and worked my way back to 4 miles by the next Wednesday. A cough with secretions, headache, and I could feel my pulse in my teeth. So happy I followed what I knew was right for me.

Started running a high fever, went to Urgent care and tested negative for Covid. Ran a high fever 104 for a couple of days and took a home test which was positive. Went the next day to get monoclonal antibodies. However the next day was having much trouble breathing and had to go to the ER. Was diagnosed with Covid pneumonia and admitted to the hospital December 22. Was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I am not vaccinated and in good health with the exception of hypertension.

Given we have heard a lot about the active immune system and CDT4 and T8 cells and what they do. Given there is so such immune escape occurring with omicron, could you please consider discussing the innate immune system and in practical terms what we can do to boost it to prepare our bodies to be stronger and identify BA5 when it comes knocking on our door, as it will. To date apart from eating a very low inflammatory diet and exercising the only thing I identified to support innate was ☀️ sunshine and vitamin D. In the context of people who are not in high risk categories. Many thanks in advance, I will listen with great interest… 👍💯👀✅

@Dr. John Campbell A great book that I used when studying Immunology as part of my Physiology degree in the early 1980's was "Immunology at a Glance " by Prof John Playfair ( RIP). He taught at the Univ. of London. I have to say that over the past 2 or so years certain sections of that book seems to have been completely ignored and even vilified as heretic text. That is why it is so delightful to listen to yourself and a notable authority in Prof Clancy discussing all aspects of the immune response. This beautiful but almost unfathomable complexity that has evolved over millions of years still leaves me awestruck. Please send my regards and thanks to the good Professor.

Surely we are all experts by now, we were asked to give informed consent to taking an experimental medical procedure of a completely new technology never before tried on humans from companies that have a horrendous record of litigtion lawsuits for deception and disregard for human life. It was up to us to get as informed as possible and I have watched so many vaccinologists and epidemiologists (and even the odd nurse) that I do feel halfway qualified. Of coure nobody can really give full informed consent until we actually know what is in these "vaccines".
