I have always loved it. To quiet perhaps for some fans. I think this was the song I first heard - my older brother, who knew I liked horses, playing this to open my mind to new music in the 70s. the album version is richer, deeper, but glad the message is still going
I love all them JT tunes, yes all.. I was just 17 when I first listened to those progressive bands withbtheir own distinctive sounds. Yes I love hard rock tunes too but progressive rocks open my eyes and ears wider to the horizon of music..
Heavy Horses & Songs from The Wood. Are my 2- Favorite Albums. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I worked for Tull in The 1980’s. My Dad In The 70’s. Love 💕 This So Much. Mouse 🐭 Police Velvet Green ❤️❤️
@TheJethroTullBoard I fully agree. I think this is one of THE benchmarks for all progressive rock. Perfect lyrics, and great performers. This version sounds a bit mechanical, but honestly, whoever had been around when this was original is slowing down a bit now as well :-) Ian Anderson and Martin Barre (and my apologies that I don't recall all original names) are rock history. They left a great legacy, and I hope there may be a chance to see them perform one more time!
my heart is filled with warmth when I hear this. I love heavy horses and I love jethro tull eversince I was young - which I still am :) this is music which lasts!!
Ian Anderson is, hands down, the finest living rock & roll composer/songwriter. Who else compares? Frank Zappa was numero uno. RIP Frank. Rock on, Ian.
like they travelled through the ages to tell us all about music...it has everything, incredible skills, singing and unrivaled lyrics. First time I heard them I felt like hearing music for the first time ever. After all these years Jethro Tull still has the same effect on me. ♥
Why is it that there are those who have the need to bring up Ian's waining voice. I'm so happy that he's still with us and performing. Just got my tickets to ACL this May. We lost Emerson, Zappa (MITB) and an old favorite Leon.
This is the EPIC Tull song for me. I love, love, love, the early blusier stuff. It kicks ass. But this period of Tull is so perfect. The album is so excellent start to finish. The newer audio version by Steven Wilson really expands the sound - it works so freakin great on this song! Rock on!!🤘😎🤘
It will be hard (I would bet impossible) to see Jethro Tull live again... As he passed away on 21 February 1741, NOW if you want to see Ian Anderson & Cia from a BAND called Jethro Tull...yep, I do agree with you... I want TOOOOOOOO
Lots of u folks are being too tough on Ian's vocals -- obviously he doesn't have the pipes he did in 78 when he was 31 years old (!) -- but his work in this piece is commendable considering he's, what, 60 or so here. Few if any of the classic rockers sound as good now as they did in that golden musical age -- and IA sound better, comparatively, than many of them. I appreciate he didn't have to disfigure the song, as so many others do, in order to perform it. A bit strained, sure. Still nice.
I am so glad to find this live version. This song is a difficult ensemble piece. The time signature jumps from 4/4/ to 2/4 with some 5/4 thrown in. It starts in Dm and moves to Gm as the verse starts, notice Ian playing an Em chord at a barred 3rd fret, The lyric is simply beautiful and simple, the writing a beautiful poem. Ian Anderson is a genius.
I'm amazed that Ian Anderson can sing this and play the flute since he has COPD and having it myself I'm well aware of how much breath it takes to do anything like sing. It can be difficult even to speak a long sentence in one breath. I'm truly impressed that there are concert dates listed for JT in 2021.
You can see how he's completely exhausted by the end of the song. It must be extremely difficult to realise that the thing that was your tool of expression for so long can no longer do what you need it to. In recent years he's even altered his flute style so he doesn't have to use so much air to play. He may not sound as well anymore, but you've got to admire the guts to put on such a great performance given his disability.
ya, his voice lost its power and clarity, but it has gotten better, not worse, over the years since it really flamed out. It's back to being a voice that can carry this song. Who knows - if he keeps going another 20 years, it might get all the way to its prime!
His singing is much more nasal in tone than his speaking voice. I don't know if it's a result of compensating for lost range and power, but I wish it would return...along with the heavy horses!
Ian’s harmony vocals on the original studio version are simply beautiful, as are the lyrics.
One of Tull's greatest masterpieces, but for some strange reason many hardcore fans don't love it. Never understood that.
I have always loved it. To quiet perhaps for some fans. I think this was the song I first heard - my older brother, who knew I liked horses, playing this to open my mind to new music in the 70s. the album version is richer, deeper, but glad the message is still going

I'm a heavy horse lover. Shire Clydesdale Friesian. This song is a gratitude to this animals

Maybe one of the last TRUE and GREAT artists.... no computers, no gimmicks, just purity and talent. Why are there no artists like this today ?
My favorite song of his ever. He's amazing on stage still. I wanted to hug him so much.
my heart is filled with warmth when I hear this. I love heavy horses and I love jethro tull eversince I was young - which I still am :) this is music which lasts!!
@@ellinachname9018 geht mir genauso. Oft ist jethro tull meine gute Nacht Musik
How great is Martin Barre as a lead guitarist. Love this song
Ian Anderson is, hands down, the finest living rock & roll composer/songwriter. Who else compares? Frank Zappa was numero uno. RIP Frank. Rock on, Ian.
I have two heavy working horses...Clydesdales and we live and work in the UK. Love this song! So true
have you ploughed with them?..nothing like walking the furrow
wonderful to hear!
Martin Barre is such a great guitarist. Love it
He plays the flute better than Ian. Im a flutist too.
pitteddates he is AMAZING
u play better than Ian

what the fuck Ever. dream on
A great version all these days later! Great to see Martin on stage.

My Favorite Album & Song ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent performance from a very talented artist ... such a shame he no longer has the powerful voice he once had ..
Horses are the most noble animal and the work horse is a forgotten genre of their legacy. They are beautiful amazing animals
Thanks Ian Anderson. From Brasil
I agree.. but maybe Martin wanted to come out of the shaddow and have his own band work his own hours .. time marches on .
Tull music always reminds me of long walks on a misty dew early morning when wildlife awakes to greet the day.
Temas inolvidables .GRACIAS J.TULL

tixximmi because he should just let his voice to rest, it’s dwindling. It may be time for him to retire and let the voice rest
@@Vlgstoday15 there's a happy medium which he has employed in the past: a younger lead singer.
I'm listening to a lot different musicians, and I like different styles, but Jethro Tull keeps me fascinated the most.
Yee Gods still one of my favorite Jethro Tull songs. Pure magic!
In my top 3 Tull songs..the one with the most heart
Great band. Love them forever.
I AM MUCH MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HOW A BAND SOUNDS INSTEAD OF HOW THEY LOOK . AND THE TULL STILL S OUNDS AMAZING TO ME!!!
Words fail me, that is incredible !!!

Steve Pauwels I know that he injured his vocal chords badly at some point.
cierto yo adoro jethro tull
Ian Anderson and Martin Barre, it is time to bury whatever feelings that caused the friction between thous and get together again......
Mi grupo favorito. Por siempre Jethro Tull.
Juan Fernandez
para mi tambien
Rafael Campano Un saludo.
Loved this song from the first time I heard it when in High School
It was a great era, one where they knew what they were doing.
Awesome performance.

What a wonderful sentence for German learners!
I mean learners of the German language rather than learners who are German ...

A shame his voice is shot. It has a negative impact on me. It literally makes me gasp for air. But I have alot of respect for him. Love this song.
You LITERALLY gasped for air when you heard his voice? Seriously?
+chippchipp1 lol. I shouldn't use the word literally when I literally don't mean it, because it literally makes me feel stupid.
i literally wish i could see Tull live more times than i already have
MMID303 you are right, he should retire
i will never die
